Disappointing experience with modifying a Resort Reservation at FW

Being forced to book 499 days in advance for holidays is a must. Then the school schedule comes out and dates change. Life happens. I don't call this not following the rules.

Agreed. I've been trying to book Christmas 2017, but it's still showing not available. Any ideas as to when I'll be able to so that I don't miss out?

I agree that this can be a pain, but I also understand Disney's point too....

They want to keep the Fort (or any resort) as full as possible, so if reservations are a constantly moving target, it's a challenge for them as well as us as consumers trying to book. I don't know what the solution is, we just try to work within the rules that exist at that time.

Well, booking is available up to 500 days in advance. From today 07/19/16, 500 days out is December 1, 2017. I played with the reservation tool and the "500 day" mark seems to apply to the last night of your reservation. So today if you leaving on December 2, 2017 (meaning your last night at the Fort is December 1), you will get prices and availability. Anything beyond December 2 checkout (as of today) will come up empty.

I use this tool http://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadd.html to calculate my dates for ADR's etc. So determine your last night on your vacation, subtract 500 days from it, and it will tell you when you can make the reservation (in theory).

bgula, seems like you sure do like Christmas at WDW looking at your signature. Enjoy!

PS - or try calling around that D-day.

Bama Ed,

Thanks for the info. Yes, we love the Fort at Christmas. The DW is a teacher, so we're limited for when we can go to WDW. Prices though are getting ridiculous - and adding on the exchange from CDN $ is killing us as we also have AP's to Disney, Universal and Seaworld. Something's gotta give soon otherwise we're going to go bankrupt! Just can't seem to give up the trips to Florida.

I needed to change our reservations as well and ended up making our trip just a little shorter. I also needed to add tickets and make a request. I called Fort Wilderness and honestly, the CM was rather rude =(. But, then I called Guest Services and told them that I needed help and the CM there was really nice and helpful. I have had to call Guest Services twice for help with things that I oopsed on and made "newbie" mistakes on both times, the CM there was very nice. If I have any more need for help, honestly, I am just going to call. I find the computer frustrating and it seems that a phone call get a lot more accomplished quicker.

You will have to make a separate reservation for just that one day you are trying to add. I went through this same thing about a week ago.

I have a Preferred campsite for January in Marathon week and wanted to pick up a night in front of my arrival day - to "change a reservation" to arrive one day sooner. That one day was available on-line per Disney's reservation system. Disney's system looks for a "new" reservation in its inventory for the whole longer time - it doesn't consider your existing reservation already. This is the same treatment they use to stop people from booking speculative Free Dining dates as room only before FD is announced and then flipping them to FD after they are announced.

So I just took it and will have to deal with it. You will too if you want that extra day.

Thanks Bama Ed. Do you know if this means that we will have to change campsites for that last day or will Disney move things around so we would stay in the same site. Seems like a waste of a chunk of the day to break down camp to move for one night.

If your reservations are of the same type (i.e. Premium for both or preferred for both), then you will likely be allowed to stay. You will also likely have to "Check-Out" and "Check-In" again for that day. I would suggest that you do that EARLY (and even do the early check-in for the second reservation noting your current site as your preference).

If however your reservations are for different site types (Premium and Full for example) then it's very likely you will have to move.

All that being said, of course, ANYTHING is possible in the end.

Sarubo, my plan is to do something like the following: my one day reservation is the first one so I will do the early checkin and specify the time in on arrival day and time out on departure day. Not that I'll really be leaving but I will schedule out late like 11am so I have time to check back in (maybe I can phone the front desk) if I have to for the new reservation that starts that same day. I quizzed the CM when I made the reservation if I would have to check in the second time and was there a way to "link" the two reservations so that I would only have to check in the first time. She said that they were linked and I would only have to check in one time. But I plan to ask again on my arrival day and see if that is still the answer. I will have to be flexible I guess.

Like Paul said above, the key is to have both reservations the same type. Mine are both Preferred.
