August 2016 - anyone else planning for this time?

Totally agree about visiting WDW in the summer. We have gone for the last 6 summers. Friends think we are crazy because of the heat. It actually has been hotter here (NY) the last two years than in Orlando. Also just doesn't seem as hot when I am on vacation. Even though we are doing a surprise birthday trip in October, would take summer over the school vacations anytime.

The week of labor day always seems to be the slowest week.

I've been the week before Labor Day a few times, and yes it's slow! Last August, DD and I went and stayed at Pop the week before. One day, Soarin' was a literal walk on - no lines at all - the entire day!

To the OP, yes we're also hoping to go again this August. We upgraded our tickets to AP's (and are going over spring break) so want to get 3 trips out of them! If they offer free dining, we'll buy tickets and save them for next year spring break. If there is a great AP discount we'd love that. We may even stay off site, don't know yet. We did enjoy Pop a lot!

A few things that helped this past August trip. We bought cooling towels which we draped over our necks, we loved them, even if it made our shirts wet, it cooled us down some. I also got large free ice waters from counter service restaurants. Drinking cold ice water often, really helps cool the body down and keep everyone hydrated. I made my kids drink even if they said they weren't thirsty. Of course an ice cream sundae here and there also helped keep us cool.:flower:

So thankful for this board! Our family hasn't been to Disney World for a full vacation since 2009. We've had lots of interesting travels since then, but missed Disney! Our oldest begins his college adventure this August, so we decided to send him off with a trip to the World. On a whim, I checked this thread, and the next day had a trip booked. We got a fantastic price at Beach Club, and FYI they were able to get us the discounted price beginning on 8/11. If there is availability, they can start your trip 5 days early or extend by 5 days from what I understand.

My second observation is that EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT! Magic Bands? Fastpass+? Be our Guest? I'm starting from scratch!

we are going for my daughters 2nd birthday, last week of august. :)
Sounds great, some of my best memories are from the trip we made when our daughters were 1.5 and 4y.o. So impressed, so stimulated, so amazed! Enjoy!

Thank you! I love watching her when she reacts to something new. She saw a photo of Minnie and me when we went to disney for our Honeymoon and she was just amazed. She kept on trying to kiss the computer screen LOL

Yes its hot in August but I found it manageable as long as I am wearing a light short & top, pulled hair back, & my neckfan which is the biggest lifesaver. Also going to air conditioned attractions & rides & frequent breaks helps, along with starting off in the morning till early afternoon.

Got in on the deal! Beach Club here we come! So excited and ready to book adr's in just 6 days! I think this is the shortest countdown we have ever had...lol

We are now planning an August trip for the 20th-27th. We've been in August before so we know what to expect weather wise. I'm waiting to see what kind of general public discounts Disney makes available for our dates to decide if we will stay at a Disney resort or rent a house with a pool. I would love to take advantage of that *deal* being referenced in this thread (I looked at the website),but I don't think it's available for our dates and it would still be quite a stretch for us to stay at a deluxe resort because we need two rooms since there are seven of us.

My recommendation about any discount to to alway request a quote and then evaluate. Ask questions and work out if it works for you. Then at least you know what you are dealing with:)

Having said that, I have stayed off property and one and two bedroom villas etc, for $100 $140 a night respectively and they were very clean and a great place to sleep after park days. Don't forget to add parking or travel into the nightly off site hotel rate. It adds up.

I am waiting to hear back from my quote request just to see what we would have to work with since our dates do qualify :); but again it would be quite a stretch since we need two rooms and the deal is for the deluxes. But who knows, we may decide to splurge for this trip since we will be celebrating DH's 40th birthday and our anniversary . Yes, the parking fees and other costs associated with staying offsite do add up. We stayed offsite in a condo on our last trip and parking was $15 a day. Now it's $20 a day! You also have to do your research to get a good rate on a minivan rental; but again since we need two rooms, staying offsite works out well for us in more ways than one. I am considering upgrading my ticket to an AP so that we can get free parking and purchase TIW. DD14 will be doing a high school music dept trip to Disney next year so I would be able to utilize the AP since I plan on chaperoning the trip. I am hoping that since we are going in late August which Disney categorizes as either "value" or "fall" season (depending on the resort) that they will offer an attractive discount promotion. If they do, then the lower off season rates along with a good discount promotion will definitely make staying at a Disney resort more feasible for us. :thumbsup2

If it's the one I'm thinking of (and booked), it's with a travel agency that's banned from this forum and they delete all posts that reference it. You'll have to do some digging to figure out which one. Sorry :(

Great thread! We booked the BC at the end of August a few weeks ago. Have only been down there in April, May, September and October. Will be interesting in the heat of the summer!

I too am taking my 2 year old for his first trip at the end of August! *edit* are there any discounts that have NOT been blocked that are valid for 8/16 out there yet?

Not that I am aware of yet Wendy:) shouldn't be long, what hotels are you interested in and do you qualify for any of the pass holder, military rates?

No, not military or pass holder :) We're hoping to get a monorail hotel with the toddler but it's stretching the budget pretty far. failing that, as close MK as possible!!!
