Dis 10th Anniversary mention - July 2016

Though I somehow suspect you don't require liquid reinforcement to overcome shyness.
Funnily enough, I'm incredibly shy around people I don't know. And yes, that would include y'all because of the face to face thing.
I don't think liquid courage actually helps me because I become incredibly annoying when I drink. But yeah, this girl is actually shy.

Funny how different people can be behind a keyboard and monitor. I wouldn't have pegged you as the shy type. So if you came in July, you'd be right there stalking me along with TinkFan74. Of course, stalking is not unfamiliar to you.

Ha ha funny guy!!
To be honest, I'm not actually too sure how I'll go meeting someone F2F that I know online, I've not done it before.
However, I've emailed a fair amount with a lady from work who is in our Cali hub officer and she is in town this week and next for some training and it was fine to meet her in person.
So who knows?!

Same way I am, Jes (as far as being shy around those I don't know, because I don't drink any more) :rotfl: And people never believe me when I tell them this! :) I guess I FORCE myself to act "not shy" so that I make others feel more at ease around me due to my many years in public employment, and working with the public and many others I did not previously know while in emergency management. Coping mechanism, I guess you could call it.

This will be my first DIS event too. I did meet the podcast once, back in like 2010 when they did a show at the Il Mulino before they had the first Swan and Dolphin food and wine classic.

Have never been to a DIS or MouseMeet, or anything like that, but used to go to big get-togethers (around 150 or more at main event, sometimes around 40 or so for events, especially meals during the week (try wrapping your head around making ADR's and details for 40 - was NOT easy!!) usually annually many years ago, did it approx. 10 times. Was always a little scary, but I can also espouse what everybody has said here - you always "know" peeps from the boards, and as time goes on, you "know" more and more peeps on the boards, and in "real life". The nervousness goes away very quickly, especially if you remember you always have the love of Disney in common, so start and go back to that if unsure. And in time, those peeps can - and possibly will - turn into lifelong friends. I have current, close friends that I met through my love of Disney (and going to the get-togethers, which we called Gatherings, as in Gatherings of Disney Friends) that I met on Prodigy (an online service, WAAAAY back when!) and then in WDW back in '92!!! And they are a treasured part of my life!!

EDIT: Remembered a saying I saw/herd I don't know where that all this makes me think of: Strangers (you can insert DIS'ers here) are friends you just haven't met yet! :)
HA! I remember Prodigy. We had Prodigy, Compuserve, and AOL to see which we liked the most. I still have my AOL account. That was way back when we had to dial up on the modem.

Yup, I thought I was the cat's meow when I went to a Hayes 1200 baud modem! :rotfl: And remember the "tones" you got while the modem was in "handshake" mode, and did you get the same sense of HUGE relief I got when it finished, and you got the "static sound" so you knew you WERE actually connected? :bitelip: Good times! LOL

Thanks so much to others who admitted to being in the same boat! I'm generally pretty outgoing, but always wonder...

The cave of awesomeness sounds good for some, but I have discovered that its brand of courage causes me to worship at the porcelain goddess' alter... So I'll have to find another way. I hear tell of the nectar of the great gray goose that sounds like a possibility.

Because you all will understand, last night I dreamed we arrived in FL and I realized I had forgotten to follow up and find out what was going on so I had no idea where to go and I hadn't signed up for anything. I stood in the Epcot parking lot crying while DH and DS looked at me like I was crazy!

I have ventured to the distant shores of France and obtained said gray goose nectar and can declare that all was good and right in the world after that indulgence.

ETA: I was mistaken. It turns out that I did not indulge in the gray goose nectar but rather in its partnered bretheren known as the Grand Marinier slush.

I drink scotch. I can not drink tequila. I can't even stand the smell of it and feel sick when my wife orders any drink with it. This is not the same trailer hitch cleaner that TGIFridays serves. I can not describe how good this drink is without getting banned on here, probably by Pete himself. Most women and quite a few men would be repulsed by my extensive and detailed narrative on this topic. Perhaps I will compose a sonnet for private reading, it worked for Shades of Grey.

If I posted our itinerary do you think Kevin could make suggestions without revealing details still to be worked out? I know the dates we will be staying at BWV, and the days we are camping at Pete's Backyard BBQ, but now ADRs are made and park days planned. I can only afford DATW 4, maybe 5 days in a row tops. That being said, there is no way my wife will give up our BOG ADR to ride Figment with the Dis Team unless they bring back fried chicken and waffles.

Perhaps they just mention what park or parks we might want to keep open on certain days.
Pete: Those podcast viewers visiting the parks in late July may want to keep the 25th open in the evening or plan to be around AK. The 23rd would be a great day to plan some time in Epcot in the afternoon.
You know, that kind of crap to keep me going between now and July. I'm drooling like the last hyena at a zebra carcass.

I'm bored, cold, and have time on my hands, so rereading threads. Here's a classic:

Why does this deserve mentioning? I April we received info about the December Disapalooza. It was updated and edited, but gave us all a taste. I want a taste of July. To date all I know is to keep the 25th open, and that Craig will be drinking somewhere. Please throw this old dog a bone.

Interesting. Registration opened almost 8 months in advance. We're only just over 5 months from this event and know nothing yet. They must be working on something really special. I bet working with Disney (assuming it's a Disney venue) is being much more difficult than working with Universal was.

That's my thinking Steve. It can't be easy to book Trader Sam's for a night, much less get seating for 900 for the AK festival of lights.

I'd love to meet with the crew at Trader Sam's but since that place only holds about 40 people I'm sure they won't be doing that.
