DVC AP Discount?

I guess the AP going up 20 for the gold pass is not that big deal if you don't travel over the Christmas holidays or Easter. We however have gone on a few Spring Break trips. :( :( :(

If you bought your pass in July wouldn't it now qualify as a plantinum pass since you bought it before October 4?

So if I wanted the platinum pass I could upgrade to it when I get to the parks from what I currently have. I am only upgrading to the gold pass (since we are DVC we qualify for that pass), and I am only upgrading my pass not my DHs. You can always upgrade never downgrade.

Where is anyone even seeing a link for an option to a "gold pass" The only things I'm seeing are the Platinum and Platinum Plus options. (Do I need to log into the DVC site?? I was just looking at the Disney site alone)
Go to the regular AP page for Disney and it will prompt you to sign into DVC there. You will see the gold pass.

Except I would imagine that people who pay for Photo Pass are a pretty small number. No data to prove it, but just my guess.

We have never gotten Photo Pass so it's a loss of dates and a higher cost for us. Assuming we get AP's going forward - we may not. I'm sure there are some AP holders that get Photo Pass/Memory Maker but I bet there are a ton that don't think they need a picture in front of the Castle every single trip. But I bet they will now! I wonder if this is going to require more photo pass photographers? Or - FP's for the photo pass photographers?

So I am confused (doesn't take much) We currently have DVC AP's that expire in April. Do they include Magic Maker b/c I just paid for Photopass a few weeks ago. And yes, we are the AP holders that get it every other trip or so..lol I will push for a refund if it is going to be included on current DVC AP's.

You would have to pay to upgrade your AP's to get the Photopass included. As it is the AP's you currently have will continue just as they were without photopass until the expiration unless you did upgrade.

No. You still have the same passes you always had. The new passes are a completely new type of ticket. They don't sell the old type anymore, but you can still use it.

Thanks!! We were planning to go during Xmas week 2017 (yes we are crazy!)...guess we have to scrap that since there are 5 of us and that means $500 more in APs for the no blackout dates. Early Dec it is.

Your current passes don't have blackout dates.

I hadn't even thought about increased photographer utilization - we love the Photo Pass and make a game out of finding as many photo ops as possible. GACK!

These changes essentially result in a large price increase, unless you usually purchase the photo package. The platinum pass is the current AP with the addition of the photo package for a $100+ increae in price. We are essentially forced to purchase the photo package now or accept black out dates in exchange. I'm sure some are happy with these changes, unfortunately for us it's one step closer to selling my DVC points

I think what is unclear is an activated AP vs an AP voucher: anything activated prior to October 4th should function as a platinum pass. What is unclear is an AP voucher bought prior to Oct 4th: when someone goes to activate it, does it get activated as a platinum, a gold, or the now defunct "old" AP?

This is what I want to know: we have 2 DVC AP vouchers purchased previously and a separately purchased memory maker.

Someone posted on another thread that WDW could force you to "upgrade" to the Gold AP when activating an "old" DVC voucher.

I'd call member services but I doubt they would know the answer: phone CMs seem to be the last to get this info. If I'm going to have to upgrade to a "new" AP, then I want my memory maker refunded.

Edited to add: just tried to call member services and was told my wait time would be over 30 minutes.
Yes, this is the question. But if you buy a pass knowing the rules and regulations that come along with it, then that is what you get. Activation date has nothing to do with it (in my mind).

Typical of Disney, increase the price and offer something that not everyone will use to make it seem like an okay deal. They did the same thing with the DDP, increased the price but included rapid fill mugs that not everyone uses.

So we were going to renew our passes in Jan in the 30 day expiration window (downgrading from PAP to AP). However, we may just go to Gold Pass vs Platinum because Christmas next year is Sat/Sun -- which for a 1BR at SSR is 49 points per night, and the weekdays are 44 points. If we go for 5 days it seriously dents our ability to travel for the rest of the year, which negates the investment in any pass. I did the math earlier, and the AP still works out better than a 5 day Park Hopper ($380 UT) vs the $466 for Gold - since we typically go 2-3 times per year.
I'm still trying to find out if we can renew 30 days after expiration or if now only have the 60 days before option.

That's the thing while you may pay only 20 bucks more but it is much more limiting so its comparing apples and oranges. Whenever something gives you less and costs more, the consumer is getting burned. Unfortunately a new reality is created, much like the Magic Your Way tickets did. The Marketing side look at this great opportunity you can customize your tickets and only pay for what you want, in the meantime hopping became and extra, no expiration became and extra and consumers were left with huge increases. I don't mind paying more for new or added benefits, what I mind is paying more for less; or be given benefits that have no value to me.

I am upset that there are now no DVC discounts for annual passes that include waterparks. We love the waterparks. We will be doing less Disney trips now.

Don't frequent water parks but agree with above. Just one more thing removed

Also while not every DVC member travels during blackouts my guess is that many DVC have kids and do travel that time. Yes I would get a discount but my ticket price just went up $100.

So during Easter I have to wait longer in lines do less attractions pay more pts per night pay more money for food and now pay more for tickets

Way to go Disney. Way to apprciate your frequent loyal customer base

Agree. Memory maker is good for 1 time visitors. Those of us that buy AP and go often do buy memory maker. Here are only so many pictures in front of the castle I need! Lol

The Platinum Plus Pass includes Water Parks.

NOTE: The last pass option "Disney Platinum Pass - Renewal" should actually read "Disney Platinum Plus Pass - Renewal".
