Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Can someone help me understand this... last weekend I did a 3k race (was supposed to be just 1 mile!), my gun time was 16:56 and my chip time was 17:08.9 with a pace of 9:12. If I divide either the chip time or the gun time by the 1.86 miles, neither one comes out to a 9:12 minute mile pace. Do they average the two times?

And let's further add to it that my fitbit shows me doing 1.2 miles with a time of 20 minutes.

How was your gun time shorter than chip time?

And how was the race 3k but your fitbit shows you ran just 1.2 vs the 1.86 miles? Usually we run more than the course is because we weave around others.

Weird!

I know my fitbit generally shows less mileage than what I have actually done. I think that means my stride is short? :confused3So when it takes the average person 10,000 steps to run 6 miles it takes me like 13,000 . . . .or something like that!

I do not understand one bit why your gun time would be shorter than your chip time-- unless you cheated and started the race too soon! lol :rotfl2:

Quick (random) question ... has anyone heard of a 'place' or charity that takes gently worn sneakers for others in need? I have three pairs of sneakers that are in great condition for every day use but are past their mileage for my usage. I'd like to be able to donate them for folks who can benefit.

I just looked at my Fitbit again and it says 1.21 miles and 17.28 minutes. The race was billed as 1 mile but when we showed up it said 3k which is more than a mile! I suspect something was up with the clocks because there is no way I got a nine minute mile while dragging my 8 year old up and down a hill for 1.86 miles!

My running store collects them. Our school has also donated to an organization called soles for souls. Maybe they have a list of collection points? Maybe even the Salvation Army?

OK now that makes more sense, what you said earlier. And now 1.20 seems more reasonable if it was a 1 miler. Wonder if they just used the wrong signs? Wonder if there was *also* a 3K going on?

Still, weird. :)

Check out your local running stores. That is what I do with my old ones. They sort them and the better ones go to kids at schools that can't afford shoes and the rest go to the homeless. A company refurbishs them and washes them.

Nope! Just the 1m/3k thing and then a 5k. And there is a huge difference between the 9 minute mile pace they recorded and the 14 minute mile pace that I recorded!

I was supposed to have a 5k today but Joaquin thought I needed a day to stay home and clean my house and make a delicious dinner instead. I was fine with running in rain but they were predicting thunder and lightning for 8:00 a.m. and I think that is what caused everyone to cancel. When I woke up it was barely drizzling!

Can anyone help me?? :) I went into the runDisney site to access the PoT info. When I enter my name and birthdate it says unable to find race registration. I went back to active.com and I can see both disney races (5k and half) but my birthdate is wrong. I updated the correct birthdate information on active.com but still can't seem to get runDisney to recognize my race registration.

Am I missing a step??? I know I read earlier about people having problems with the birthdate/ registration. I thought I had corrected it when I changed my birthdate. But still can't get it to find me for PoT entry. :(

I ran a 10k race yesterday. Ended up finishing in 1:03:38. That was a 10:15 pace. Overall I was happy. I would have loved to finish in under an hour. But it was a pretty hilly course. I was very happy that each mile was faster than the last: 11:13, 10:35, 10:06, 9:53, 9:35, and 9:01. I felt good at mile 5 and decided to push the pace and got a wicked stitch in my side. That was the first time that has happened in a while. Not sure if it was trying to do to much, or the cold weather, or the oatmeal I had for breakfast (sticks to your inners!). I have two more races planned for this fall so far. A 10-miler on the 18th and another 10k on November 1.

Did you try to access it using your wrong birthdate?

The weather held out and my 10k this morning was dry but colder than I am used to! Finished in 1:12:05, which set me at an 11:38 pace and way faster than I was expecting. I've only done a handful of local 5k races, so this was my first 10k and I was extremely nervous once the announcer started the 30sec countdown. It was a winding, windy, and hilly course ( at one point, the half marathon pacer that I had just passed called out 'woohoo, downhill!' and I just laughed and told him that if he looked ahead, we had to go back UPHILL! ) so for me to finish well under not only my goal time but my normal pace was exciting. The adrenaline kicked in! Now to rest, keep up the training, and prep for my next 5k on the 17th!

Yes I tried both birth dates and it doesn't work. :(

I have 4 races registered under active.com website, 2 have the right birthdate. And two do not. Disney races are the ones with the wrong birthdate. I sent an email through the runDisney contact us page. Hopefully they will respond.

Re: purchasing extra items
I went to my active account- clicked on "purchase" and all that was available was the race retreat/breakfast.
Did I miss the window for the jacket and the tumbler package?

On a positive note I rocked the Hot Chocolate 15K in Denver- setting a new PR and better POT! Yay!
Super fun race- zipped up hoodies, HC backpack, Awesome bling (customized to Denver) and big mug filled with goodies- chocolate fondue and Hot Chocolate of course. If this race comes close to you - check it out! Lots of fun! Chocolate and marshmallows on the course!

Ok forget it..... I double checked again and the day is wrong as well. Off by a year and a day. So I logged in with the incorrect date and was able to enter the PoT. :)
Yay!

I'd still contact them to get that info corrected...just to be safe. Glad you could get in!

My active account shows that there is nothing available to purchase.

That race sounds like a lot of fun!

How is everyone coming on their costumes? I have to rethink mine. My pink polka dot capri skirt finally arrived and it is not what I was hoping for. There isn't nearly enough compression! The top I bought is rolling up just with me walking around the house so I know it won't survive six miles without driving me bonkers. Plan B: order a skirt without the underpants and then order some compression tights from Athleta (I just wish they had more colors in their capri skirts!) and then order one of their tops that have the compression and the no-rise band at the bottom. I have some hot pink compression socks, but if it is warm, I don't want them over the leggings and if it is cold, I need more than just a skirt and socks!
