Copenhagen Escape Pre-Cruise Experience Meets Thread

What did you all think of the pre-cruise add-on? We currently have it booked for 2016 but I'm a bit worried after hearing about the reviews of the ABD shore excursion experience. Would you recommend the add-on for future cruisers? We've done 1 ABD in South Africa and it was amazing so we have high expectations. Thanks!

I thought it was great. The canal cruise and Tivoli gardens were amazing. Our tour of Roskilde Viking ship museum, and Kronborg castle was enjoyable. The farewell dinner at Carlsberg brewery was excellent with beer tasting. We loved it and the guides Amber and Robyn were great.

Our tour was with Dusty and James just prior to the 11 night Iceland Norway cruise. James and Dusty were both terrific. I felt the entire tour, although short, was excellent. I echo the sentiments on the farewell dinner at the Carlsberg brewery. That piece was much better that I expected.

I enjoyed the add-on, but aside from the farewell dinner at the Carlsberg Brewery, there wasn't much we couldn't have done/arranged on our own for much, less money. For this particular ABD, I feel like we paid them a lot of money to find and hire private guides and set up our itinerary. I agree, Dusty and James were great!

I completely agree with DizDragonfly. This one makes me reluctant to book a pre, post or embedded cruise ABD ever again. The only one I am not too concerned with the pre/post Prague add-on we have booked for the river cruise is due to the existing ABD Central Europe trip.

We did the June 17 pre-cruise and had a great time. While I agree that a lot of the adventures could have been booked on our own for a lot less, we would not have met a great family and kept meeting them through out the cruise afterwards, plus the little surprised and the enthusiasm of our guides was not something we would have seen on our own. Our guides, Robyn and Amber were so enthusiastic and a couple of the locals they secured were also very good. I think one lesson learned for me is to travel in a day ahead to get over the jet lag. I felt Groggy most of the adventure and caught myself snoozing on the bus rides to the Viking Museum and Castles, also would have given more time to do some shopping as with the ABD you are busy and not a lot of free time. While we were there it rained much of the time, so we had to make adjustments. It rained off and on while we were at Tivoli and we probably could have spent more time there on our own, but we were so tired and getting wet. We ate dinner that night at Tivoli at an Italian restaurant (got caught in a rainstorm and found the first restaurant). It was good, but would have like to have eaten at a Danish restaurant.

Note for those of you wanting to buy wine/beer before the cruise: there is a shopping mall a brief walk from the Tivoli. Inside is a store grocery plus store. We found out about it the night before we left Copenhagen and went over after breakfast and before departing the hotel to pick up some Wine.

Reviving this thread for 2016 cruises! DH and I will be on 6/29 Norway cruise and the 6/27 pre-cruise escape w/ ABD!
