Wine and Dine 2015

We stayed club level for the Princess Half this year. While we really enjoyed it and hope to do it again, we decided against it for the Wine and Dine weekend. At Princess it was a girls weekend, my best friend, both our moms and our daughters (4 girls under 4). We did it for the convince of snacks at the room while kids were napping/breakfast as we were getting ready. We did breakfast every day but between the expo, race, and enjoying the parks it seems like we always "just missed" the food and drinks. And since it's a night race we'll need to eat at certain times and will want to have a good meal, not just snacks/apps before the race. And since we are down there for the race, we won't really be taking advantage of the adult beverages before the race. We also aren't taking the kids either so the value isn't really there.

To be honest we were really considering splurging since its one of our few (first?) adult only weekends (actually I was going to surprise DH) but when I figured out cost for the club level verses standard room and buying food and drinks in the parks (and getting exactly what we wanted verses what's served) we are better off in a standard room and splurging on meals out.

We are also mainly doing the races this weekend so we don't really have ADR's or fastpasses we'll need to have changed.

That's probably more info then you were looking for but that's our game plan!

I came to this conclusion, so I called Disney and tried to change. Nothing left, so I am forced at club. I could save $100 overall by moving to the Swan, but I think the $100 is worth the upgrade. I will just try to exercise some self control, as I would really rather be able to walk out the international gate than take transportation after the race. Last year, we stayed at the BC and my husband and I joked that we weren't sure we had the energy to get to the Dolphin (of course it was pouring down rain).

I have booked a club level room for this trip and am seriously thinking about letting it go for just a standard room. For those that have stayed club on running trips, I would appreciate your input.

I am arriving Thursday and leaving Monday. It is only my DH and me. What I like about club is the breakfast, the evening snacks, the free wine and beer, and the "poof" factor I experience. That "poof" factor being any little thing that I might have to deal with (more towels, room phone doesn't work, want to move fastpasses, trying to rearrange a dinner reservation, etc.) is magically fixed. When I deal with these things myself, sometimes I can fix them, sometimes I can't, and it takes longer.

Why am I second guessing club? It's just my DH and me, so I am not having to feed two DSs also. So cost "savings" isn't there. Also, I won't be indulging in more than a glass of wine a day pre race, so that savings isn't as dominant. What really gives me pause is that club level gives way too much food. I am afraid I would eat it pre race, and then be miserable. I won't risk not scheduling ADRs because I want the meal to fuel, and you cannot count on the club level offering to provide sufficient fuel. I have stayed club level three times, and I have overeaten every time.

So, for those that stayed club during a race, can you avoid the temptations of the lounge pre race? Also, did you think it was something you would do again, or is standard preferable?

TIA.

I wouldnt. The biggest reason being the food and wine festival and how much fun and food that is. The next being that I couldnt enjoy the beer and wine offerings. If I change anything I would be doing it "on the fly" on my way out the door or while in the parks so I dont think concierge would be a helpful option for that. So probably all I would get would be maybe a nicer room, depending on resort. I would definitely go with standard for a race trip, any other time I would say CL is great.

Hey all, Nikki here. Long time (looooon time lol) lurker. Finally came out of my shell over on the Tink 2016 board, but since I'm running this (and the Princess- Tink and Princess so I can get a C2C) I thought I would also come over and say hello! Planning to run with DH, but as he's been running since he was 14 his pace is wayyy faster than mine- so in reality I'll be running alone.

I'm a new runner. Literally, started running at the end of March. As in had never run more than a mile. As in I had to start with Day 1 Workout 1 of a C25K progam new. I'm up to 6/7 miles for my long run now. Did my first 10k over the July holiday. The past few weeks I've been bad- no running. Part was being under the weather, part was rest after the 10k, and part has been life. I gotta climb back on this horse!

The W&D will be my first Disney race, my first half, etc.

Hoping to get to know people and maybe the half won't be so lonely!

Oh, forgot to ask, has anyone stayed at BLT as a race hotel for the W&D?

We're DVC and it's our home resort so it was easiest to book. When DH ran the W&D in 2011 I can't remember if the monorail was running after the party or not, we had driven down (lived closer then) so we just parked the car at EPCOT. Thanks to it also being Jersey Week that week, there's really nothing left to change to- and I barely got in at BLT as it is, so I'm hoping it'll be easy to just monorail hop there and back.

I don't know the answer to your hotel questions, but welcome! :) Tink 2015 was my first half and first Disney race, and it was great. :) I am doing this one for my C2C.

Good morning wine and diners! I'm trying to get myself out on a run today before it gets too hot (already is but better than later) and thought I'd check in with everyone here. I've got 7 miles to do and if I do, I will have completed 6 full weeks of my training plan without missing a workout. That's pretty unusual for me! (A first actually) life has been crazy but I somehow have been just fitting them in. Now if I could string together 6 weeks of healthy eating....

What's everyone running this weekend? Whatever mileage it is- hope its a great one! I put some new music on my phone last week and I think that has helped keep me motivated. Anyone want to share motivation secrets???

I just got back a little while ago from my 6.5 miler :) I got up at 5:00 and was out the door by 5:45 to get it started before it got too warm. This is the end of my week 4... I have done pretty good sticking to my schedule, too! Well, except for the fact that I haven't made it to BodyPump a single time, but I guess if I never started, then I can't say that I bailed on it? I did skip one 30 min weekday run when something in my leg was hurting 2 weeks ago (it was my Thursday run and I wanted to rest it so I could do the 5 on Saturday) and then this week I skipped my step aerobics class on Monday (cross training).

I decided to try listening to a podcast on my long run this week to see how I liked it instead of music, so I listened to the first 2 episodes of Serial. :)

Getting ready to go out and do my miles. Going from my house to the park around the park 3 to 4 times (hopefully) and then back home. That'll b about a total of 8ish miles. Lets hope i can manage it.

Last minute wishes ... Trying to get back on track after many health issues and my heart screams Disney Wine & Dine 2015... I know it's late in the game, any suggestions on how to get a bib ? I tried TAs on Run Disney and charities are Sold Out on the website ... Thanks !,,

pixiedust: Good Morning!

I am officially signed up to run the Jingle Jungle 5k with DS16 this November and I am wicked excited about it!! This is a stepping stone for a future Disney 1/2 Marathon in the future... Initially I didn't think I could do 13 - but after running all summer - I think I can do it! I am most looking forward to running with DS as he will be off to college soon and and family vacations will be harder and harder to coordinate. Making Memories!

QUESTION: who out there has done the Finish Line party before? There is a slight chance that I could score a spot in this years W&D 1/2 - is the Finish Line Party worth it $$ for DH, and our 3 boys to buy tickets to? What is it like? I think I would be so exhausted after running 16.3 miles if it all pans out... do runners get in for free? I think I would feel guilty doing it alone or leaving the kids out. What do you think? What have your experiences been? We will have spent a lot of $$ for our 10 days at Disney - not sure I want t waste the whole next day sleeping or hungover! Although the experience could be fun :scratchin, but costly! :scared1:

Tonight I head out for a local race - a Night Owl 15k. I figure this is a good start or accomplishing 13 miles! Should be fun and the moon will be amazing!

:laundy: Back to house work I have been avoiding....TIA for your insight & infinite Disney wisdom! :disrocks:

Congrats to all those sticking to, or mostly to, the training schedule. Your W&D is going to feel easy if you run like you train! We did a 15k last night - the blue moon shoot the moon series of three 5k in a row. Went mostly well, even though it was 105 degrees at the start of the first one!

I have a question... I am prone to leg cramps when running, stretching, standing, sitting on a plane, sleeping - basically whenever I least expect it. Running is most common though. I take extra potassium, eat pickles, drink lots of water, don't go out of my way to avoid salt, and stretch. What do other people do for leg cramps? It makes me so mad when I'm feeling good and running well then have to slow WAY down because my calf, shin, or hamstring cramps. Thoughts? Others have this issue?

Hello fellow wine and diners!

Got back up on the horse after doing a 10k race on 3 July 15 and then taking a week off for recovery, then got sick, etc...for a few days I was mentally worried that I wouldn't be able to still do a minimum of 6 miles. You might say paralyzed with fear of the first run back turning out that I had lost mileage. So after all of that, I lost nearly all of July's training. But this AM I just sucked it up, laced up, and got in 6.2

In 1:06

Now, I'm sure there are those of you MUCH faster than me, but I hadn't run in nearly a month and my 10k race time was 1:20. So I somehow haven't run in three weeks and shaved time off my 10k. Not sure how the heck THAT happened, but needless to say it was just the encouragement I needed to get back on track.

My goal is to get my long run training up to 13 miles by mid October, Halloween at the latest. Hopefully, I'm still on track for that.....

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!

Wow, I wish that happened to me! :) I am much slower than that. :) My 10K PoT was in mid-June and was 1:18:49, and today my 6.4 (my route came out a little short) was 1:24:33, although I was pretty happy about that time because I was trying to keep it slower and there were a couple spots where I really just didn't push myself and took a break. It was the longest I'd run since that race, and my training was definitely not 3 days a week pretty much between Tink (Mother's Day) and the first week of July.

I've been trying to decide if I want to do a 10K in a few weeks. The two weeks that have back to back long runs of 8 and 7 miles, there is a 10K race that I've been thinking about doing that is on the Thursday in between them. I've been thinking about playing around with the runs that week to try and do the race. Maybe doing like 6.5 instead of 8 the first Saturday and then swap Thursday and Saturday, doing the 6.2 race on Thursday, and something a little bit longer than 30 min on Saturday. That way I keep the mileage more or less the same for the week, if not for each run. My thinking is that I don't want to do the full 8 if I'm going to race, because that'll be 2 fewer days of recovery between long runs. Friday is usually my total rest day. I'm going to see how my legs feel this coming Thursday since I did 6.5 today.

How is your calcium and magnesium? I used to take Rolaids extra strength as a calcium and magnesium supplement. I took something like a 1/2 tablet at breakfast and another 1/2 at lunch in prep for 4-5 hour bike rides. You may want to run this by your GP.

Do you take NSAIDS within 48 hours of running? Anything that taxes the kidneys can lead to electrolyte imbalances.

Running in 105 deg temps...

Welcome, Nikki! Congrats on becommming a runner. A Disney race is great motivation for training in my opinion. :) Sound like your training is going really well and it's tough sometimes to stay motivated in the dog days of summer. Just keep at it and cooler days will be here soon!!

I did 8.5 this weekend. It was finally a little cooler this weekend thank goodness, so we pushed pace just a bit on the run Saturday and had a really good one. Still ready for those cooler fall temps though. :)

I was also going to ask about calcium. I had cut out a lot of dairy awhle back and starting getting really bad calf cramps at night. Like wake me up painful cramps. I knew I was hydrated, so a friend asked me about calcium. I started taking a supplement and the cramps got MUCH better.

I don't remember exactly, but seems like they don't release corral info until pretty close to race time. Maybe just a couple of weeks ahead??
For Tink this year they went up on 4/10, so exactly one month before. I was assuming it would be a similar time frame... although I want to know NOW! :)
