Disney's BOARDWALK INN Information & Questions

Thanks for confirming that Mexi! That is what it looked like from the map. I'm half wishing they had those little cottages available with our discount! No boardwalk view but just across from the pool.

Just a quick question Kook if you're lurking.....:offtopic:

I've noticed with the new boards that there are way more new topic threads created asking questions that are, for the most part, answered in the "official" resort discussions. This seems counter productive in the long run as it pushes the resort threads off the main page, in turn, leading to MORE topics being created.

Any reason theses "official" discussions aren't pinned to the top?

Sorry for the off topic!

All the DVC villas have Mr Coffee style coffee makers. Either 4-6 cup (might be in studios) or 10-12 (most other locations, but also some studios). You get one, maybe two filtered packs of coffee each service day. If you drink more than that you'll need your own filters and coffee. Basket style filters.

I posted this in the CL thread, but I hope it's ok to post it here, too, since some of you may have more current info...
My family is considering a stay at the BWI for the first time. Can anyone tell me what food they have up in the lounge (mostly interested in the afternoon snacks and dinner apps) or post some pics if you have them? Any info would be appreciated. We've stayed CL at many other WDW resorts, and while we like to stick to old favorites, I think it might be time to try something new.

Feel free to post here anytime. There are some photos in the CL chapter of the thread, but as someone posted, they very recently changed some of the evening appetizers and we don't have photos of those yet. Breakfast and snacks are basically unchanged though and there is (finally) a refrigerator for the beverages and yogurt.

Please post updates/pictures to the BW villa studio rooms
We are highly considering to rent one within 2 years
We heard some refurbishment plans are underway at the BW villas.
Thank you

HERE is the link to new Studio photos from the BWV chapter of the thread.

Returned from a conference/girls' weekend at BWI and have lots to report! It was a great stay and I'm so glad we chose BWI. This was my 4th stay at BWI, but the first time staying non-CL. A few thoughts:

Location for Conference. BWI is perfect when attending conferences at Swan or Dolphin. Includes Magical Express, no extra fees (like at S/D) very "Disney," and feels far less "conferencey" than Swan/Dolphin. It's close enough to make the conference convenient, but provides a little extra space away from the conference during breaks and in the evening. Perfect. :)

Upgrade. We booked standard view and were prepared to see the parking lot. Against all conventional wisdom, and since I didn't have any strong preferences for location/view among the standard options, I checked "boardwalk view" during online check-in. Typically, I'd consider that a waste of a request. But in this case, I had no real requests so it was worth a shot. Turns out our room was not standard. We had an amazing Boardwalk view and a huge balcony. :) Yay!

Boardwalk View. I still prefer the Boardwalk view over garden. It's not particularly quiet, but not loud either. The noise from the boardwalk never kept us awake, but with just adults and no kids this time, we were up late anyway. Smokers next door - not happy about that. But when we called the "front desk" or wherever that call goes, the smoking stopped. We planned to stop by the real front desk, but the call always worked.

Check In. Direct-to-room works again! Got the text with the room number when we were at the airport. Went direct to room and opened it with magic bands. So convenient - just love it.

Quick Service. Quick service options are fine. I did miss something like Captain Cook's when we needed post-11pm quick food and didn't feel like walking back to Dolphin for Picabu. (Picabu, by the way, is looking sort of sad. Not kept up as well as it was a few years ago.) Quick service wouldn't be a problem if I were casually dressed - I love to walk. But in heels for the conference - different story. On the other hand, Belle Vue lounge is wonderful. Loved getting coffee and later, soda/water in the refill mugs without going down to the Boardwalk. Always relaxing and quiet in there at any time of day. It's my single favorite location on property to fill mugs. Other places we filled mugs: Boardwalk Bakery, the clown pool and the pizza window. Note regarding pizza window - they only refill mugs after 11pm when Boardwalk Bakery is closed.

Pools. Quiet pool is wonderful as always. Was able to swim something like laps there and it was peaceful and serene. Clown pool is still hopping - not quiet, lots of games, etc. But that's to be expected. Plenty of chairs to go around. Not my favorite main pool, but they are all getting so crowded and crazy these days.

Room. The decor is SO much better in person than in the photos. Love the bathroom area - very clean and nicely updated. The carpets are in great condition. Beds are super comfy.

Weather. Wow - I forgot how hot the Boardwalk can be in the summer. Really hot.

Happy to answer any questions!

Thank you for posting your little TR:). Great information as always.

Back from a vacation to the dark side, but we managed to sneak in time at MK and Epcot. But, we will be back at BWV April 3 - 8, 2016. It will be the first time with a Boardwalk View.

Hardly recognized your avatar, Sulley;). I'll add your dates to the BoardWalk Bulletin.

I don't consider that OT and that's a good question. We really only have one Resort Moderator now and she would have to make all the threads "stickys," I don't have that ability. I do have a resort sticky that I maintain that contains links to every resort information thread. If someone with a question looks there first, they will find links to all the threads, past and present. Of course, sometimes people don't look at the threads so they don't know that their question might be answered in the beginning of the resort threads or they want a quick answer without looking through the beginning of the threads.

Blue is coming to the Dark Side (well other side of the World) too! I actually can sit down and do some planning now! Nothing like leaving things to the last minute but with the 9 day wedding trip, DS moving in with us for 3 weeks and planning his going away party for yesterday, I've dropped the ball on the anniversary trip. Now that DH and DS out of the house and on their way to Cali I can clean:laundy: and plan.

Although current plan isn't too bad!

Saturday is arrival day with appies and dessert in CL then a boat ride to EPCOT. I'm planning on more snacks in the World so we have to walk it off heading to the Monorail and Magic Kingdom for late night hours. My one major goal is to do the walk through of Peter Pan's flight. Haven't done it since it was redone!

Sunday is Sleep In day and pool then the anniversary dinner. I've just about convinced the Old Dog to try something new. I'm looking for opinions on Monsieur Paul's and Todd English bluezoo. I'm also leaning toward Shula's again since DH had a cold only had a salad when we went in April. The downside of the 48 hour cancellation policy. I had the French Onion Soup and dessert so it really doesn't count as eating there. The steaks looked incredible though. DH is still trying to hold out for Artist Point.

Monday is another pool morning and late hours at Hollywood Studios. I'm considering a Beaches and Cream for lunch here and some EPCOT time.

That is as far as I got! Suggestions appreciated :flower3:

I'm so glad they put in a fridge. I have to say the thought of beverages in a pan of ice water wasn't appealing. I was planning on taking them back to the room fridge to cool off!

That resort thread has been a life saver for me when stuff gets bumped off. I really can't thank you enough for putting the effort into maintaining these. I (and I'm sure I'm not alone) really appreciate it and you! :dogdance:

I love Disney without kids! You may not ever take them back! :D

And I'll be taking lots of pictures! I didn't get any frame worthy from the last trip but I'm hoping for some sunrise/sets on the lake.

Back to cleaning and planning! :hourglass only 20 days to go...

I know you were asking for Blue's suggestions/opinions, but I thought I'd give my two cents:) DH has eaten at Shula's 3 times on business trips and thinks it is very good. Like you, I was considering Monsieur Paul, but it only got 3 1/2 stars on an Epcot area restaurant review I was looking at, so I decided to try Flying Fish...my girls (although 16 and 11) don't like the menu, so we've never eaten there. They love Narcoossee's. DH and the girls won't try Artist Point either. What does your DH like there? Good luck with your planning! Sounds like fun to me!

I did that wrong! Please everyone give suggestions!!

DH loves the cedar plank salmon and buffalo at Artist Point. We did the Flying Fish Wine Dinner last year for our anniversary. The seafood was good and wines were a full glass. The place was really noisy and we had zero chef interaction which I was expecting so I have mixed feelings about it.

I've read the same sort of reviews about Monsieur Paul's as well. Think I'll cross it off the list.

I might keep an eye out for main dining room opening at V&A too. DH mentioned Narcoossee as well.

Again suggestions appreciated from all! We don't have a lot of experience at the EPCOT area restaurants.

Never tried Bluezoo - but it is on my list. The steaks were amazing at Shula's. The only problem is that you have to walk thru the convention people to get there. We did not have a very good meal at Flying Fish, although that was a menu ago. We might try again.

I liked Artist Point as well. The Yachtsman's steakhouse over at Yacht Club has exceptional steaks and is considered signature dining at WDW. Of course, I really like bar food and draft beer, so ESPN Club has been a frequent return stop for us.

As for inside Epcot, we have been to Via Napoli several times. Buy two pizzas or the really large one and they will split type of pizza. They import water from Italy for their pizza, or so I have been told. Tutto Italia is far more formal, service was terrific, and food was great. I've enjoyed Le Cellier's steaks as well, although it is a bit dark in the dining area.

Hey BW peeps. Here at WDW now, but staying at BLT this trip. But we had to hit the BW area even if we didn't visit the BW itself. So we ate at Cape May for breakfast yesterday before hitting Epcot. We did notice construction on the tower at the BW, I don't remember anyone mentioning that before. (Or I just missed it.)

image.jpg

We entered Epcot though the IG, and each got a little American flag pin for the Fourth. We didn't see too many other people wearing the pin as we got further into future world, so we really thought only the IG guests got the pins. Nice bonus.

We also went back again tonight to the area for Yachtsman's. It's been our favorite signature on site for our last few trips now, and this time was no different. A little peek at the BW.

We ate at four signatures this week, we would rank them in the same order they've been in on past trips

Yachtsman's Steakhouse
Narcoossee's
Citricos
California Grill

For the Epcot resort area, I would put Bluezoo under Narcoossee's, and Flying Fish under Citricos. We would put Artist Point somewhere in the middle of that jumble. In Epcot, our favorite is Teppan Edo. It's a solid restaurant, not as good as the signatures, but it's very enjoyable. We liked Trattoria al Forno the one time we tried it (opening night!), but I don't know how it's evolved since then. Also agreed ESPN is enjoyable for a casual burger night. Sometimes you need those! :) Enjoy!

Just back from our BWI Deluxe club level stay. The room was perfect. We had a beautiful view of the boardwalk and could see the HS fireworks. I love the changes to the club. The Nespresso machine and fridge are a great addition. And yes they do stock the fridge with little bottles of water. The food offerings throughout the day were wonderful. Morning offerings included oatmeal, bagels assorted cheeses and cereal everyday. They alternated between assorted sliced meats & Lox. As well as mini muffins, croissants, pbj pinwheels and more. We weren't really around much for afternoon snack but the day we were they had cookies, chips and make your own trail mix. Some of the evening offerings included cheese and sliced meats cream of potato or tomato soup, braised short ribs, shrimp wrapped in salmon, and something with lobster in it. We were never around for dessert.

You two have me questioning Flying Fish, but it's so convenient to BWI and the decor looks interesting, so I guess I'll give it a chance. I would try Le Cellier, but DH doesn't eat steak, which is why we haven't been to Yachtsman's...obviously DH didn't get steak at Shula's-lol. I'm really looking forward to spending more time in the countries since the kids won't be with us and we'll be on the Epcot side:)

Wow! That sounds fantastic! DH and I are so excited to try BWI CL now! Thanks for taking the time to give your review. I hope we get a good view from our room.

So you like Bluezoo better than Flying Fish? Is it close to BWI? I guess I need to check that one out...is it a signature? We love Narcoossee's not only for the good food but also for the view, like Cali Grill, but we are eating at both of those in October so I want to try something different.

Bluezoo is in the Swan (or possibly the dolphin) check out swandolphinrestaurants.com for its location and menu. It's a Todd English restaurant if you're familiar with his chain.

That's close enough to BWI. Thanks, I'll check it out! I've heard of the restaurant, but I don't know anyone who has eaten there...we're GF regulars who tend to eat at the same restaurants all the time, but we're trying to mix it up a bit!
