Alaska Cruise for us DISers on RCCL Jewel of the Seas 6/12-19/2015 (Official Thread)

Hello All,
A quick note for those who have pre- and post-cruise days in Seattle.

I took a quick road trip to Seattle this month and did a few touristy things. Here is my short reviews, please feel free to ask for more details if you may want to try some of these out:

Seattle Center: http://www.seattlecenter.com/
Home to the 1962 World's Fair and the famous Space Needle.
Monorail is $2.25 one-way to/from downtown (we rode one way and then used Uber to get back to our hotel)
Pacific Science Center: http://www.pacificsciencecenter.org/
Lots of great hands on exhibits including an amazing tropical butterfly garden.
EMP Museum: http://www.empmuseum.org/
A wide variety of pop culture exhibits and many hands on music experiences. Special Exhibits include Star Wars and the Power of the Costume and "What's Up Doc?".
Seattle Duck Tour: http://www.ridetheducksofseattle.com/
Sign up and board at two locations, one outside the EMP museum, the other downtown. Corny driver/skipper gives an overview of downtown and an on water tour of lake Union. Fun if it is a nice day, especially with a group

One additional note for those staying post-cruise, the Fremont Solstice Fair is 6/19-6/21 http://www.fremontfair.com/ My Duck Tour guide thought the parade was especially noteworthy.

See you all in four weeks!
Alicia

Less than a month away:tongue: soooo excited!
I have a question for you veteran cruisers....Will the Jewel's casino be open for all or »some« of the trip? Hey, I'm feeling lucky!

It should be open when we are not in port. Will you share your winnings with the rest of us that aren't so lucky?? :)

Hello All,
One additional note for those staying post-cruise, the Fremont Solstice Fair is 6/19-6/21 http://www.fremontfair.com/ My Duck Tour guide thought the parade was especially noteworthy.

Just a quick note and heads up for the Fremont Solstice Fair. Many Fair guests dress up in whimsical costumes, fairy wings, body paint, and artistic get-ups, while others simply wear casual everyday clothes. That means that there is nudity which is covered by body paint so if you have kids you may not want to go to the Fremont Fair.

Its still early, but I was looking on the Weather.com website and the temp's for Seattle are running in the low 70's for highs and the low 50's for lows. Definitely going to need to pack layers.

Yeah for mid June temps are usually in the low to mid 70s during the days with nights being in the 50s/60s. Nice for t-shirt weather though it'll feel chilly for those of you coming from Florida or other states that get up into the 80s and higher. And we don't have the humidity hear like those in the south do so that means no afternoon thunder storms. :worship:

Reminder - please make sure you check-in to this cruise with Royal Caribbean if you haven't already done so.

Go to http://www.royalcaribbean.com/ and click on "Prepare and Go"...from there click on "Online Check-In"

You will need your RCCL reservation ID number. If you don't know that you can write to Tracey at TraceyH@DreamsUnlimitedTravel.com and she can provide that to you.

The date of departure is 06/12/2015 and the ship is the Jewel of the Seas.

From there just follow the steps.

I have some details of our GKTW fundraiser while onboard the ship. As a reminder:

We will be holding a LIVE auction!!!

Members of the podcast team will be auctioning off items from their personal collections as well as items donated by Dreams Unlimited Travel.

While we appreciate that some of you might want to bring your own items to auction we have a limited amount of time for this event so we will be limiting it to the items the team brings.

We will be accepting cash or personal checks made out to Give Kids the World for winning bids.

To keep it fun and interesting some items will be auctioned 'blind' - Survivor style - but I promise there will not be any 'clunkers'.

Even if you don't want to bid on anything we hope you join us for this fun event.

Just completed on line checkin! Getting close!!!! :sail:

I have a question for John or Kevin since I don't have that much experience with RCCL. If I'm eating at one of the specialty restaurants do you know if I will just be able to borrow pants and shoes?

Val & I leave for Seattle one week from today!!! :flower1:

Cathy and I leave one week from tomorrow, planning on a day of site seeing in Seattle before the cruise.

Today's weather in Philly is cool (upper 50's) and rainy, sets the mood for the Northwest perfectly.

Just found out yesterday that Seattle has a MONORAIL!

Must do!

Yes we do have a monorail. It goes between Westlake Center and the Seattle Center (Space Needle, IMAX, Pacific Sciennce Center). TICKET PRICES
All prices are one-way: $2.25 for Adults, $1.00 for Youth ages 5-12, $1.00 for Reduced Rate (Seniors 65+, disabled, persons with Medicare cards, & active duty U.S. military) and Children 4 and under ride free.

here's a fun facts video on the monorail:
