Epcot needs...

I'd be happy if they would simply develop something, ANYTHING, in some of the unused spaces and buildings. I realize it's hard to for Disney to create a futuristic attraction that is future-proof, but at least try! The effort will be appreciated by the majority of Disney fans.

I actually love the open spaces and plants/gardens in Epcot. Though the empty/poorly utilized buildings are frustrating. Walking from TT/MS to Mexico is just depressing. Ellen's energy adventure should just be put out of it's misery, and then the buildings that are not used filled with cool attractions.

To the things you say are far off: they are selling tickets to space, and 3D printers are now cheaper than a home computer.

True and true. However, there are still quite a few materials and speed hurdles to be overcome before 3D printing becomes a practical method of printing clothing, and it is not clear how long it will take to overcome them or if additional technology will be needed. Similarly, selling tickets to space is very different from mastering the technology necessary to maintain a vacation resort destination in space. I'm not ruling out the possibility of unforeseen disruptive technologies, but without them I don't think any of us will be sidling up to Guinan's bar in Ten Forward any time soon.

By contrast, even though the in-dash personal assistant / itinerary / tour guide thingie doesn't exist yet (to my knowledge), all the technologies to enable it do exist and it's easy to see a relatively unobstructed path to implementation. The biggest thing holding this back is not the ability to do it, but the safety concerns associated with being able to use it effectively while driving.

But whether or not you agree with my assessment of how far off these things are, I stand by my original point: I feel that over the last 8 years that I have been going the balance of the mix has been pretty stable, which leads me to suspect that Disney is taking active measures to keep it that way.

I would add Soarin around the world to WS that showed the Great Wall, pyramids, Pisa, Vesuvius, St. Basil's etc.

Italy should get a gondola river ride.

Instead of Frozen, which should be in MK, Norway should have a Viking raid ride.

I would also put rotating chairs in the circle vision movies to allow full viewing and to give tired feet a break.

Spaceship earth needs modern clothes on the "modern" family instead of 80s clothing on people watching a flat screen TV.

The Mexico rides needs to more about the culture and less about Donald.

Soarin should become about the whole US, incorporating aerial views of all the parks at the end.

Universe of Energy should just be about dinosaurs. Stupid Judy needs to retire.

When you compare the Epcot of the 80s and 90s to today...it IS as bad as everyone is saying. In fact it's worse.
I'm not talking about the 'future' aspect, I'm talking about the amount of attractions and entertainment that once used to be pervasive throughout the whole park.

now it's a park with empty 'storage' buildings everywhere (and more to come) because the focus in Epcot isn't on attractions anymore, it's on alcohol, ie..F&W. Because money.

Then again...I'm still wicked bitter over Horizons closing.

Future World:
I agree wholeheartedly that something should be put into the empty buildings - they remind me of the empty stores in our local mall, very depressing. Also, I wish they'd put in more fun little touches like the light designs in the sidewalk - I noticed one of the three wasn't working at all last month.
I enjoy the humor of the Ellen ride, but it's a little long and could definitely be updated to be more interactive.

World Showcase:
I love the idea of Soaring around the World - very clever and so many possibilities! And, I wish they'd install some seating in UPDATED versions of the movies in some of the country pavilions. I think more could be done in the USA pavilion as well. It just doesn't do much for us.

I hate the idea of filling in the large spaces though. EPCOT is the one park that's a pleasure to walk around in, due to the gorgeous landscaping and wide walkways.

My 2 cents.

Lady Hiss princess:

Ah, I wasn't commenting either way on your original point. I've only been on the ride once, I was commenting on the achievements themselves. And as far as the in-dash personal assistant thing... isn't that On-star?

Gotcha. Sorry if I came off grouchy, I didn't mean it that way either.

No, it wasn't like On-Star, I'm sure I didn't describe it very well -- it was more like load every checklist, Excel spreadsheet, and audible guidebook that you purchased for your trip into your car. My binder with all my confirmation emails printed out in individual plastic sheets in chronological order -- it was in there. My hiking guide with post-its on the hikes that are suitable for the family, as well as notations for fall-backs and drop outs so that everyone can complete -- it was in there. As a compulsive planner, it made me very happy. :goodvibes

No grouchiness detected :flower1:

I think it needs about five more Soarin' screens, one for each continent. It's not like making first-person movies is hard these days.

Oh, and for the love of all things good, The Odyssey and Wonders of Life need to have something going on in them. No more vacant buildings, please.
They're hardly vacant. The Special Events folks use them a lot and generate a lot of revenue. Their status isn't changing any time soon.

Why not have several different versions of the movie and randomize it each time like Star Tours? I like the current movie, but if there were multiples that would keep me happy for a while.

Greece! But I'm 100% Greek and partial to the food! Really though I love Epcot just the way it is. I went to Disney many many times as a kid and my parents didn't take us to Epcot thinking we wouldn't enjoy it as much as say MGM (HS) but as an adult I absolutely adore it and we go all the time!

I think a big factor in the way is sponsorship. If FutureWorld had attractions that pushed the limits of technology and such, you'd be looking at businesses like Apple and Samsung/Sony, etc... It's not going to be just Disney's $$$ going into it, granted those I listed probably would want nothing to do with it. I mean flat screen tv's aren't that old and we now have curved 4K flat screens. Even if they took a TRON approach, it could still be fitting to the area. That's just a start...

I remember only being able to go to Wonder's of Life Pavilion once in my lifetime, but I thought was a very interesting pavilion. Being a fan science, I wish I could have spent more time. I think proposed idea to have the STEM majors be on hand would help. That could actually help more STEM majors in the future is needed. I love Epcot because that helped me become fascinated in science.
I like that STEM emphasis.
Even if they used a building with a few interactive exhibits and host occasional First Lego League (http://www.firstlegoleague.org) and other robotics competitions.
If they started making some of FW a partial "Wide World of Science" they might have an easier time getting more corporate sponsorships with Disney actively marketing to a STEM youth crowd.

Some things to change but some need to stay the same.

I for one hate Soarin and wish it gone.
I think it would look better if it was rethemed after "The Rescuers" where you can follow Ms Bianca and Bernard on another rescue mission.
