Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend 2015 Thread ** May 7-10, 2015

I think we ended up running about a 11-12 minute pace and my mom finished about 20 minutes after us, and she was nowhere near the last person across the line. We all started in the last corral.

I have dropped back to start in the last corral with friends and we never had a problem with timing. We tried to start relatively close to the front of the corral, be even so as long as we kept moving, we were good. I'd really only be concerned if your average is hovering right at or above the 16 min/mile.
How early do you need to get there to start relatively close to the front of the back corral? I had plans to submit a time, but I could only find one late fall 10K near here and I slacked on my training before it and did not do it.

My pace should be ok... I hope! I have only trained on the treadmill so far, and last Sat did my first 10 miler, and my pace for that was 14:04. I tend to run faster outside (weird?) so I'm hoping between that and another couple months of training it will get a bit lower. But I want to start as close to the front of that corral as I can to give myself some space.

Awesome - thanks y'all!

I'm pretty disappointed that my 10K last weekend was canceled due to snow - I had a chance to run it virtually to get my finishers gear, but we all know that a virtual/training run is nothing like a real race situation. I was hoping to see how much my time had improved since my 10K last month. Oh well.

I'm doing 10 miles this weekend in prep for a half on the 14th. We'll see how it shakes out! If I feel confident after the half, I'm 100% in for Pixie Dust.

We were not early, I think we got in maybe 30-45 minutes before the start. What we did do was go single file and worm our way up through all the space left by the people in front of us. You have to be willing to take advantage of that, and then continue to do so as the corrals move up. I don't think we were at the very front, but we were comfortable.

I run faster outside than I do on the treadmill. I think it's a function of being able to adjust your pace to how you feel without dealing with electronics. For some reason treadmill running just seems harder to me.

Thanks! :thumbsup2 I will probably do that. I am running the race with some friends, but they all submitted times and will be in other corrals. So I should be able to work my way up. :)

Ok so it's not just me then! :) I always feel like I am running super fast on the treadmill even when I'm only going between 11:30-13:00. I am doing run/walk so that's why my overall pace ends up around 14:00 so far on the long runs... it's more like 12:30-13:00 on the weekday ones.

The poor last corral gets such a bad reputation sometimes, I feel bad for it. As long as you aren't right on that 16-minute/mile border, and you keep yourself going you shouldn't have any reason to worry. The corrals do fill up faster than you'd think they do, but I'm also someone who always arrives before/at the time they open the corrals. Being in large groups of people gives me severe anxiety when we're squished in like that so I always make sure I'm right at the start of my corral (right up against the gate). It's always interesting to watch as more and more people fill in.

So, I posted this on the thread on the DLR board ... but (drumroll, please!):

Well ... after confirming that I could I defer a travel agent-purchased bib until 2016 if I needed to (I planned on doing Glass Slipper and Pixie in 2016), I went ahead and bit the bullet today. I'm in for Pixie Dust!!

I figure I have until late April to determine if/make sure I'm ready for it. Here's hoping!

It will probably be a short and solo trip for me, since the husband is in Vegas the weekend before for work, so I doubt he will want to go to the California office the following week/weekend, but we'll see.

I just saw your post over on the DLR board, and I'm super excited!

I'm 98% excited, 2% scared. Or maybe I'm 98% scared, 2% excited? Either way, it will be fun!

Here's hoping I survive my first half this weekend!

Sometimes the nerves and excitement are the exact same thing ;) But I really do think it's great that you're at least trying to take the leap.

I hope this weekend goes well for you and is a good springboard of where to go next!

Less than 2 months to go! I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to be doing for my sleeping/travel arrangements for the weekend, and I think I have something worked out! I'll travel from home for the 10K, but for the half a friend has kindly offered that I can room with them for the night. Will make everything so much easier.

I am staying at a friends house for this race (a first for me, always been in hotels). And I am finding this prospect both terrifying and exciting. Terrifying because I have to rely on them completely to get us to the start and I don't have control on when we get to said start line since I am staying there. Exciting because well she is a close friend and staying at her place ought to be fun (even if she won't be there for the first two days). I think there is going to be a lot of 'Excuse me pardon me' going through my corral on 10k and half morning because I don't think I am going to be getting their as early as I'm used to (pre-corral opening). Unless the corral placements surprise me somehow I am going to be placed further back then I like because of the lack of ability to submit times at expo anymore. So I want to be up front in the corrals but I can't exactly force afore mentioned friends to get up to early. There doing the 5k and 10k so we have to get there at a reasonable time. But they aren't doing the half (which means her Mom (and possibly friend depending on work) is going to have the interesting excursion of being up three mornings in the row).

Part of me wishes I was staying in a hotel. Just because it would be less anxiety inducing and I would get to expo on opening on Thursday (yeah that's not happening, afternoon will be the earliest). But get to save some money here means hopefully I get to spend it on another race down the road.

Can you stay at a motel on Harbor Blvd for just Saturday night? It'd be cheaper than saying at a hotel all the nights, but they (your friends) can drop you off Saturday evening and then pick you up Sunday around check-out time. You'll have less stress about Sunday morning, but you'll still get to spend most of your trip with them. Just make sure you'll be able to finish the race and get back before check-out time, or you could have them store your luggage when you head off to the race.

I am registered for the half and I am not feeling great this time around. I am still recovering from foot surgery and plantar fasciitis. I am wondering if there is someone registered for the 10k that wants to switch bibs and run the half. Please pm me if you'd be willing :) thanks!

Please keep in mind that all registrations are non-transferrable, and to do so is against runDisney policy and could get both parties banned from future events.

If i haven't gotten you added, I will tonight when I get home from work!

I know what you mean about the heat forcing early morning running. And of course the only day this week we haven't been in the 90's and I couldn't get myself out to run. I feel so guilty about yesterday and now I'm working both jobs for the rest of the week. I want to squeeze in an early morning run, but I'll barely be getting 5 hours of sleep as it is without waking up earlier. Eek.

What is the weather usually like at DL in May? I'm coming from the frozen tundra of NH... we will very likely still have snow at that time here. :)
