Gas just dropped to $5.09 near me, fluke?

Wondering if the station owner hit his head before setting the price so a once and done, or if it's coming down?

It was $5.39 a few days ago so I scratched my head & filled up feeling like I was robbin' the place, which is a bananas way to think about $5.09 now that you say that.

Our local stations dropped a few cents over the last few days, too. A Google search shows that this has happened around the US in the last few days.

I'm thinking I heard they were making another release from the strategic petroleum reserve. Maybe that's why? Prior releases seemed to make a small difference similar to this for a few days.

Temporary (small) reprieve. The US has lost 10% of its refineries. And domestic production has dropped off precipitously. We are headed for 70s era rationing and consistent $5+ prices for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully if it's everywhere the drop will bring prices down in grocery stores, I blame gas prices 100% for all the price distortions. Saw tortilla chips today that were nearly $6 and was shocked, I was away from in store shopping while recovering from surgery and feel like Rip-Van-Winkle waking up to a changed world.

Also, wholesale gasoline prices on the futures exchange have declined for several days. Drivers are beginning to alter their driving habits to cut usage is my guess. I know I have.

I’m paying over $6 a gallon here. Luckily my commute is 5 miles a day round trip.

I was looking at the AAA average by state and saw California: $6.42/gallon average cost for regular unleaded. Wow.

My gas went down to $4.92 today. I stopped and filled up. I am guessing it just a fluke.

As of yesterday, gas was holding steady at $6.19-6.29 depending oh the station.

It is around $4.30 per gallon here. Haven’t noticed if it has gone down any the last couple days.

Truck stop near me was $4.59 on Monday or Tuesday. All other nearby gas stations I normally stop at were $4.79. So I filled up. Last night the truck stop was $4.49.

We have an EV and two gas cars. You better believe that EV is taking us *everywhere* lately and we have saved hand-over-fist due to that car. Wife is sad because her nicer, gas car sits unused in the garage most of the time, now she wants to upgrade it to electric too!

Except for fresh produce and fresh meats, I think groceries don't really ever go down; once a price point is established, food tends to stay there. Unfortunately.

I noticed ours seems to be going down 10 cents and then back up 10 cents and then repeating this week. Today is a “down” down so I’m thinking with the pattern and tomorrow being Friday, it’ll be back up.
