Norwegian Beach Handball Team Fined for Wearing Shorts Instead of Bikini Bottoms

Uniform requirements are part of each sport and they are set by the sport's governing body not the IOC.
Yes, but the LARGE and very influential Olympic committee has not done anything to hold those accountable to how women are treated. Passive acceptance.

A totally different thing than the dress-code violation, which has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the athlete is disabled. As for the case you mentioned; access to the venues is strictly limited due to Covid.

Her mom is her Personal Care Assistant, she doesn't just want her there as a spectator. Instead the team has one PCA for 33 athletes.

I don't know about beach handball but what they women wear in beach volleyball is what they want to wear, it has nothing to do with how they are treated.

But the rationale still exists. Beach volleyball got a lot of criticism because they required revealing uniforms for women, but not for men. However, they relaxed their standards where one could optionally wear different uniforms. I heard they even had one athlete in Rio wearing a hijab.

Again, that uniform is what the women want to wear. As for the relaxed standards, that was done for 2 reason - religion and cold, wet playing conditions.

Unfortunate but understandable under these circumstances. Covid has changed everything. :(

I’m not arguing that you’ve read that somewhere but I’d have to hear it from an actual elite woman volleyball player to completely believe it.

I'm pretty sure that Beach Handball is not an Olympic event, so the IOC would have nothing to do with this.

Sure. But there have been lots of uniform complaints in sports that they did cover, and in some cases the athletes were accommodated just for the Olympics.

Beach volleyball is certainly one where the history was about selling booze and skin. I haven't followed it that closely, but there was always the division between the AVP and FiVB, which I believe have different uniform standards.

Not true in this situation. They were fined for wearing shorts, their preference, instead of bikini bottoms. They petitioned to wear the shorts instead of the skimpy bottoms, and were refused.
Making them wear something that is sexualising women is how they are treated. It has to do with sexism and the women not being listened to for their preferences. They were treated with disrespect and their own wants to be comfortable, dismissed. Just wrong.
The men get to wear shorts and tank tops, the women have to wear tops that show their midrif and bikini bottoms, not exactly equal uniforms. Obviously, the uniform does not impact how the sport is played.

I am not sure sexism should be situational especially in sports.
Olympics or not........

I have no idea what you are trying to say. You are right, sexism shouldn't be part of sport but mu comment was that it isn't a sport in the Tokyo Olympics.

Just because it is not being played in Tokyo is not the point.
It is in the realm of the Olympics and everything it entails. That is my point.
Globally sexism in sports is on the front pages now but not in 2016.

When did beach handball become an Olympic sport?
Beach handball is a relatively new sport in the Olympics sphere, it's included only in the Youth Olympic Games. But it has grown in popularity since formal rules for the sport were devised in the 1980s.

But the growth of the game was a matter of a few national Olympic committees, and the hope is that it can be included in future Olympics. I'd think that maybe trying to appeal to the IOC (and its hope for spectators) would be a part of their uniform rules.
