Goodbye Wishes! Hello Happily Ever After!

That doesn't make much sense when you consider they sell Wishes viewing cruises and have been offering a meal that ends with Wishes viewing. Both of those are money makers centered around Wishes.
Sure you do have some who view for free but they do have meals for the ability to view so it's not really free.

How many movies were represented in Wishes? Anyone know?
And is this list just the new Happily Ever After or does it include Once Upon a Time too?

They haven't raised the price on them right now. I never thought I'd want to do one again, since the viewing is poor but I went ahead and booked it for our June trip, just so I can get in a view of the show without fighting crowds since it will be so new and summer.

Do you do the one in the Plaza garden or the one in the Terrace? I'm considering it but I like the Star Wars party a whole lot more.

Plaza. I've watched the current shows from both spots (Terrace Dessert Party and Plaza FP) so I am familiar with what the castle looks like from both locations. I prefer the view of the castle from that Plaza area. And if it turns out the viewing isn't as Hub centric as I think it will be I will cancel. I'll have about a month to decide.

Last fall, we were there for the Jingle Bam thing. I really really really liked the party part, but the viewing really was pretty bad even from the reserved party area (I won't bring up my thoughts on the quality of this show...). I was constantly moving back and forth to see around the people in front of us. I'm sure the people behind me were doing the same thing to see around us. We'll probably try to do the SW dessert party on our next trip, but wish that the reserved area really did give a better view.

We also did the Terrace Wishes party, and I loved the fact that we could SIT at tables and had an unobstructed view for the whole thing...rather than stand, and again have to sway back and forth to view around those in front of us.

no wishes?
i can't believe it..
we were soooooooooooooooo looking forward to it..

Whats to say your family doesn't love the new show? Think about the fact you all get to experience something new together. Instead of focusing on what won't be there, look forward to what will. Don't be afraid of the unknown.

Unless it really sucks. In that case I'll come back and edit this post to say something about how horrible Disney is.

The timing is a tough one for us. The new show starts the night we arrive in May. For us, Wishes is special because I proposed to my wife on the Poly beach during Wishes. We had a brief discussion today about trying to head down a day or two earlier so we can see it one last time. Not sure what we will decide.
Same. My fiance proposed last January during Wishes :(

Do they no longer allow guests to stand at the rail? When we did it they still had the reserved seating and our table was right on the front row. But it did no good when it came to watching the fireworks. Everyone without a table on the front row came to the rail so they stood in front of us. We had to get up from our table to watch.

Sorry if this is derailing the thread too much but we did the Star Wars party and a) loved the party and b) thought it gave us a great view ... I did leave the party just a few minutes early to get to the viewing area and was able to get a spot right at the rope of the 2nd section (the area was split into two with the front for those in wheelchairs and for kids, the back for adults)

No standing on the rail anymore - tables are all the way up to the railing. They may have stood up in the back, but since we were on the railing, I guess I didn't notice what folks behind us were doing. The food stations were back there, as well as up the ramp. Only the folks who paid the extra were allowed into that area, with another food station set up in the QS seating area for the folks who would go to the Plaza area to view.

Can't guarantee it's still the same, but that is how it was in early November.

BTW - Food at this party was MUCH improved over the old version of the party. Now if they would just serve a bit of wine or champagne that would make it perfect... :)

Yeah, we've done the viewing at HS many times. I always thought it was great. We don't leave the party early either, we wait till right at time for fireworks to start. We stand at the back and have a great view. And I'm not tall. Not short mind you but smack in the middle of avg.

Thanks. Good to know. How early did you have to line up to check in to the party to get a table at the rail?

no wishes?
i can't believe it..
we were soooooooooooooooo looking forward to it..
it's sooooooooooo emotional for us..
we always end up crying...
i can't believe it..
so our big august trip...
the first time in 6 years that we're able to be there with all the kids and grand kids...
and no wishes...
i can't believe it...
that was our one and only must must must do....
but no more..
i can't believe it...

Just Believe, Just Believe. When you wish....

We had our kids with us so I wanted to be near the front of the back section so they could be right in front of us in the front section but I have heard from others that did what you did and hung in the back and had a good view/experience as well

i just read up on the new thing....
i'm even more disappointed now as i see it's going to heavily depend on crap on the castle..
i can't see the crap on the castle..
i couldn't see it before when they put stuff on there, and i won't be able to see it now...

what are they thinking???
those of us over a certain age can't see anything that small from a distance..
we can see fireworks, but not pictures on the castle wall..

and what if your view of the castle is blocked?
not every position that has a great view of wishes affords a view of the castle..

i'm really annoyed..

this just sounds like a money saving move - switch to digital crap on the wall rather than expensive fireworks..
well you know disney, i'm paying a very large fortune to get my family to WDW...
cost cutting measures like this most definitely won't bring us back..

.

Ah, I'm one of those that sends the kids off out of our sight, LOL
DGD sat up with the kids while we stood in the back. I just told her where we'd be when it was over.

our kids were ages 1 to 6 so a little concerned with leaving them that far away and not sure how it would work after the fact/finding them - but I like your thinking in general! :thumbsup2

Oh, yeah. 7 yo, at the time, here. Not 1. That little I'd have to be closer by for sure.

The castle is quite large. Have you watched the projection show they do? Think of that plus fireworks. Much like Hollywood Studios and the Star Wars fireworks. Yes this will have less fireworks than wishes but they will still be there.

I wouldn't call this digital crap either. This technology has proven to be quite popular and can be done very well.

I don't remember exactly when we got there, but they checked us in, and just walked us in, right up to the table. Not sure if it was RESERVED, but it looked like most of the tables on the railing were for two. There were other tables behind that first row already filled when we got there, but had more seating.

I'm thinking that if everyone remains seated the people behind those front row tables have a great view also.

Maybe go back and read again? I think you missed some stuff.
They've said the new show had been designed so that it can still be enjoyed from all the same places you can view wishes from now.
What I'm taking is there will still be plenty to be seen if you can't see the castle and if you can, there is even more.
I'm sorry you think a change is Wishes will keep you from returning. I really don't think it's going to be that awful.
