Just got back from our 4 night stay at Rosen Inn closest to Universal. The place, for the money, is alright. The face of the hotel and awning faces I-4, not International Drive; so all 8 of our Uber drivers had a terribly hard time finding the entrance. That was the first thing we were weirded out by.
The second weird thing was that the hotel has a motel section attached to it. A 4 story outdoor-entry building that is closer to International drive than the main tower. I was about to be FURIOUS if they put us in one of those rooms, but luckily they put us in the tower. I'm still not sure how that building works.
When we finally got checked in I was surprised to see 2 full beds, not queen beds. I'm sure my reservation mentioned full beds, and that was alright, but I've just never slept in a hotel that uses full beds. The rooms were also surprisingly small, which didn't make them feel 'homey'.
The hotel and room seemed clean, but the brown and tan color scheme they used in the room didn't convey the message that it was actually clean. Almost every wall socket had no friction, so everything we plugged in kept falling out. There were no windows in the hallways, and the lighting was pretty poor, so that dampened the mood a bit.
For a place to sleep that is close to the parks, it was okay, but it certainly wasn't a 4 star hotel. I'm sure it is much better than it used to be, but it isn't quite there yet.
