2 Guns found by security this week.

You need to read into this a bit more. Only one gun was found. A man tried to bring one into Epcot. The second story you link to uses false info from the first story. The sentinel confirmed it Epcot and a man when WDWNT first reported it was a female at AK.

thanks for the info, didn't have time to look into it more. I didn't see it posted anywhere so I changed the title to match better.

EDITED TO ADD: turns out it was a legit story and post #1 updated with more news worthy news on it.

Please post this in the actual theme park thread so we can stop the whining about the security...how Daren they make me unzip my belongings!?

Keep in mind that per the article, Security did not discover the gun on the man. The man actually TOLD Security that he had a firearm on him. It makes me wonder if it would have been found if he had NOT mentioned it to Security......

My understanding from another article I had read (don't have the link) was that he declared the weapon because he was "randomly selected" to go through the metal detector and declared it just before being discovered. So, to me, that would mean that security worked.

I find it incredibly sad that this continues to happen. This is not the first gun to be found at the check points just the first one in a while to make it to the news papers. I am all for carry license and think good gun owners should be able to carry where allowed but that is the big difference here. I don't think you can be a good gun owner and break well known and posted rules of a private establishment. Disney has their own security who can handle any issue that may arise (including the under covers) so we don't need vigilante justice at WDW. I could only imagine what would happen in the numerous fights that break out if someone was carrying a loaded weapon.

I agree to an extent. It's good that this does keep happening because that means Disney is finding the weapons. This is probably scary to think of but imagine how many guns were in the parks before they started the metal detectors. This sends out the message that concealed carry is not allowed in Disney parks and Disney is serious about that.

Oh I know it isn't just the metal detectors. I worked there before those were installed and know how many under covers took off of people at the front gate. A lot of those who chose to carry keep them concealed enough that they were walking around before too. I still think it has always been stupid to disregard posted rules especially when they are about weapons.

Not everyone that goes to Disney spends months researching every aspect of it. Some people just book a room, buy tickets, and go. Honestly he may not have even known that he couldn't carry concealed at WDW. Just something to keep in mind. Him not having his permit gives me pause.

Someone tell me that guy doesn't resemble Ron Swanson from Parks and rec.

And Ron thinks that he should be able to carry a gun anywhere too.

If you go to private property as a permit carrying individual it is on you to learn their rules. On my trip in September there were A frame boards before you got to security that said out right weapons are not allowed and all entering the area are subject to check. If he was trying to be a good person he would have walked right back to his car (or gone back to his hotel or where ever) and put his gun away and then come back.

I understand what your saying, but it's a little more complicated than that. I won't get into it because it's a rabbit hole not appropriate for the DIS.

It says he was banned from Disney property. What if he owns DVC? What happens then?

It doesn't sound like it would've been, had he not been randomly selected for the metal detectors. Kind of a frightening thought.

And every report I have seen keeps saying it was "tied" around him under his coat. That would never be terminology I would use if a normal holster. Sounds like he was rigging it to hide. Suspicious either way.

This may finally push them to metal detect everyone like they do at Universal.

Especially since reports are it was the second gun of the day. A unpermitted woman tried to take loaded gun in to AK and caught during bag search. As long as there is a chance to avoid detector, folks will try.
