Not a fan of the "new" Unbeach Club Villas

With all respect, I understand why dvc removed the DVD player. A dvdplayer is old and the New Technology is streaming. Dvc provide good wifi coverage through out their resorts or at least they did at the resorts I visited.

Why not just embrace the new technology instead of hanging on to the old obsolete technology?

It's been years since I threw out my old dvds and I can't recall when I had a dvdplayer.

Regards

Until Disney gets the properly sized pipe for streaming it would better the guest experience to have the DVD players available. Since they maintained a DVD library for use it wasn't exactly outdated for practical use. Of course the libraries were pretty stale but it still gave families options when they were in the rooms for whatever reason.

Once Disney updates their technology then it's a better time to talk about moving on.

Here now and expected not to like the less beachy decor but I do like it. Very soothing and pretty.

Love the niche in the (studio) shower for soap etc. (unlike BLT where I just came from & love but dumb/odd to have nowhere to put soap etc.). Also love the lighted magnifying mirror.

The bed runner, bolster and throw pillows are very pretty. Wish they had replaced the sleeping pillows. Would far prefer BLT's.

The drapes, however are a little too lacy for the decor, I thought.

Overall very pleased with Home Resort renovations.

Sorry no pics but they are on other sites.

We just came back from staying in Studios at OKW. Both of our rooms had a DVD player, a 12 cup coffee pot and to my surprise an alarm clock. We stayed at the AKV in November and while we were there they removed both of the alarm clocks from our 2 bedroom Villa

Different strokes for different folks....we bought bcv 8 years ago never liking decor but loved location and it was always our favorite corner of the world....very happy with the changes they made to the rooms, colors are very similar to what we chose for our actual beach house on longboat key so it all works for us!!

We're in the minority, but absolutely love the recent renovations. They actually pushed us to buy in - we'd avoided doing a cash res or renting points because we thought the villas decor was too loud and dated. I like that the rooms have a more subtle theme now.

We love them too. I disliked everything about the previous decors, before this design.

WiFi worked fine for me for streaming. It helps that they put an access point in every room; easy to do since the wiring and switches were already there from the olden days. (I noticed it behind the TV in the living room)

As for the decor, I changed BCV to HIV. "Hampton Inn Villas".

I must say, in the spirit of being unbiased, that I did not notice any air flow problems without having the ceiling fans. And I did really like the new bathroom vanities and faucets.

But truly, more importantly than individual preference, do you find the room *theemed* properly?
The theming is truly the only thing Disney has over off site resorts.
Transporting you to a different dimension is what Disney does.
Take that away and,,,,....????

That's our thoughts, exactly, DW and I were talking about this yesterday. Disney has to stay unique and better than other vacation destinations or why go to Disney? DVC is really becoming a disappointment.

:earsboy: Bill

Exactly. The theming is what sets them apart. When we first saw OKW in 1991, we were transported to Key West -- colors, design, non-white plates !

If all they are doing is transporting me to a Marriott, their biggest advantage is lost.

Actually yes I do, other than a few pieces of art work in the old decor, I found nothing about it said Beach to me. The garish bright colors are not what I think of when I think beach. I think of subtle sand tones and light blues, coral and waves. All that is found in the new decor and was very much lacking in the old decor.

To me, this is first time that the rooms really look Beach to me.

Other than two pieces of cheap art on the walls, there is absolutely nothing in this photo that says Beach to me.

I beg to disagree. That is not the "only thing Disney has over offsite resorts". Onsite resorts, whether themed perfectly or not, have LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION and transportation. I want to be THERE. Boardwalk or Monorail Resort. You could give me a free room offsite and I would rather pay to be onsite. Nuff said.

I can't be the one one who finds this room kinda awful right? Mismatched everything. I love the clean look of the new rooms. And the beachy theme is there just subtle. I would rather stay in a hampton inn than the old rooms. That's just my personal taste though.

Totally agree with you.

I'm truly happy you like the theming. I haven't stayed since the new refurb so I'm only going off what I read. If the refurb is highly themed than I'm glad to hear it.

As far as location, location, location.... yes, that's important for some. Not for us. We much prefer AKV to BLT any day of the week. It's "theming theming theming".

Which leads to my point earlier that Disney no longer wishes to do quality theming since it's likely too costly. Thus, they put in Hampton Inn suites with small thematic touches which serves no one well.

I guess I am really behind the times, but how do you stream movies on vacation? Do you bring a device, just watch on a tablet? I am confused. We still buy DVDs, and watch them on our DVD player, and especially will keep buying kids DVDs, because then they can watch them in the car. We watch netflix at home, but that is on our smart TV (and the movies on netflix aren't really all that good anyway), but other than bringing a device (like our apple tv?) how would it work? Even when we occasionally rent movies off itunes we'll sometimes have problems with it loading or buffering. I don't ever have those problems with my DVD player.

If Disney put smart TVs in the DVC rooms where I could access my netflix or HBO go or had a list of free streaming movies, or had apple TVs in every room, then I would be OK with them removing the DVD players. I'm just not OK with them shifting the technology burden to me, and I don't want to have to bring anything else on vacation that could get lost, broken or left behind!
