Anyone concerned about the "mosquito" talk?

Back in 2014 my family wanted us to cancel our trip because of Eola I did not cancel and we had a blast. I will not cancel over mosquitos I have them in NY so I have no worries when I travel.

I came back to this thread to see if it had been updated with current information. Good on you Lovewinnie! It doesn't matter how far places are by car to a mosquito - domestic travel and transmission is most certainly of greater concern to people. It is however important not to overreact since the investigations for these 4 cases are not completed.

I will be going in Sept and I will also be 25 weeks. The doctor said I am good to go as well. I will be wearing a mosquito bracelet just in case as I just don't want to be bitten. I am interested to know the mosquito levels as well but I have never been bitten in the last trips I have taken at the same time of year.
My doctor was more concerned with me staying hydrated and my feet a rest :tilt:

looks like we will be there the exact same time! I will be 24 weeks. i bought a brand new can of bug spray and also plan on the bracelets

I've been hearing alot lately about mosquitos and Zika in Florida over the summer months. We'll be there in July/August and wondering if anyone here was really concerned. The only time I've ever been bit was on the beach watching Wishes from the Poly......
There are people concerned about any and every thing, so there are going to be people concerned about this.

I'll be there in September at 26 weeks! Looks like there will be plenty of pregnant ladies there :-) I'm planning on making sure everything is still a go when I see my OB in late August.

Here is one thing I am concerned about...I have a free dining package booked for late September. Let's say I'm past my cancellation date for packages (30 days I think) and the CDC officially issues a travel advisory for pregnant women and central Florida. Do you think Disney will let me cancel with no penalty? it's kind of unchartered territory so it's not like anyone knows for sure, but any guesses?

It's just a guess but I think so - maybe you would need a dr note. I understand that airlines were very cooperative with women cancelling to areas when travel advisories were originally announced

We just got back, after a week spent almost completely outdoors. (Honest, I had real color when we got back at 1:30 am yesterday morning. Of course, now I'm back to pasty white.)

I don't have a single bug bite. And I have not heard a single complaint about mosquitos from my husband or any of my 3 kids.

To the best of my knowledge, we're Zika free.

I don't know what Disney sprays on the mosquitos on their property but I get eaten alive at home in NY and never get bitten while at WDW. I'm too old to have any more kids and my daughter is too young so we're not concerned for our August trip. If I was pregnant or trying to conceive I don't know how I would feel about the new cases just reported in South Florida.

Good to know. I hope the a airlines are equally understanding about my mom and aunt who were planning on joining us...I guess we'll see what happens when and if the official warnings are in place. So far it's just for "Miami and south Florida."

Are you, your mom, or your aunt pregnant or planning to get pregnant any time soon? That would be the only real reason to even consider changing plans because of the slight possibility of Zika.

I'm pregnant...I wouldn't cancel my trip unless the CDC, Florida depth of health, or my doctor advised pregnant women not to travel to central Florida. But if that time comes (the warning as of today is for south Florida), I wouldn't go. Even though the risk would be small, I'm not one to go against medical advice and professionals.

Accompanying me on this trip is supposed to be my husband, son, mother, and aunt. I was just saying that I hope the airlines would be a little flexible with my mom and aunt as well, since they're only going on the trip to be with us. I guess only time will tell...

Ah, got it. I have no idea what the airlines would do but they aren't exactly known for their customer service any longer.

I know...when I booked this trip I specifically booked with Southwest bc I know they have a pretty good "change" policy, even when there isn't a travel advisory. My mom is booked on Frontier, and I have ZERO experience with them. Like I said, I guess we'll have to wait and see :-)

That is the same reason I booked southwest. Supposed to go next month at 25 weeks. I think it's doubtful we go now

We cancelled a few weeks ago based on an (unwanted) dr. recommendation. However, we had said that the second it touches down in Florida we would cancel, so I guess I can't be too upset that we already cancelled. At this point, we would have cancelled if we didn't already. The thing is, there are so many visitors to DW from places that DO carry zika - it makes it a greater risk. I can definitely understand that, and that was my original dr.'s point, coupled with the reports he was getting that it's going to touch down in FL by this summer, which I guess it now did. A lot of times the cases don't have any actual symptoms, so I can also see it being other places and no just no one has picked up on it yet. I think people saying they never get bit in Disney and that it's fine is a little crazy. Maybe you don't get bit, but that doesn't mean other people don't/won't. I've gotten bitten in Disney MANY times, and multiple times in one trip. It only takes one bite. And if you're pregnant, that's SUCH a huge risk. There are enough risks in life, with pregnancy and in general, why play with fire on something that could've easily been avoided?

I will be majorly bummed. We wanted to do one last trip with our son while he was still barely under 3, and before his sibling arrives and we have been excited about this since March. It was going to be our first free dining trip!! All of those character meals I worked so hard to reserve! Normally, I would just be like, no big deal, we'll go next year...but I am NOT taking a 1 year old and a 4 year old. LOL. It will be years before we go again...at least we'll have plenty of tickets.

I am still a tad hopeful that they can contain these outbreaks and that the mosquito control in Disney is good - Disney will likely lose a lot of reservations if this is true. My friend was planning on going the same weekend I was planning, but she and her husband are trying to conceive, so if the warnings extend, she's cancelling as well. But despite anything Disney does in their "bubble" it's still the real world, if the CDC and my doctor say don't go, I'm not going to go.

Same situation. A trip with our daughter (4) before the sibling arrives...
