Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I finally made it to Orlando last night! No issues with my flight this time. I had to get some Disney time in, so I headed over to DHS for about an hour and a half. Got in TSMM, Star Tours, and Muppets. My conference starts today and I'm a little tired after being out so late, but it was worth it!
Congrats!

We had a great time, too. Honestly, once we had the FPs for FEA and Jungle Book (which happened a few weeks before our trip), I finally felt calm and could just enjoy the anticipation of the upcoming trip. But between the 180 mark and that point was just torture. And we had a lot of little "pixie dust" moments on our trip, so the torture was worth it. :)

I hear ya! Planning was definitely torture but we had a great trip. Just missed out on FEA so I am looking forward to trying that in a week. We didn't have a lot of pixie dust moments but started out our trip by being selected as Grand Marshals for the FoF parade which was awesome. Over 20 years of going to WDW and that was the first time we had been selected for anything special. Like I said before we were there the week that all the bad stuff went down in the area but still had an amazing trip.

Yea! Glad you finally made it. Have a great time!

Page 699 ............ :dancer:almost to the next century. This thread is moving so much faster than the ROL timeline.

Come on Disney prove me wrong ............... but I'm thinking that ROL would be a good distraction for the spring when Avatarland is supposed to open ............. :rolleyes1 I mean Joe is all over this GoG overlay on ToT at DCA, he might be too busy now.

I keep thinking back to when we were all sat excitedly waiting for that live blog post back in March thinking we were going to be able to book dining packages and fastpasses. It was a simpler time. I can't believe I was pregnant then, I now have a nearly 4-month old and RoL is seemingly no closer to being ready to go.

My poor friend is still working on it, she's been in Europe this past week but I can check on progress next time I see her.

I'm 99% sure that we won't get to Disney next summer (darn college tuition is sucking up my fun money, lol.) but I'm secretly planning to get there in the spring/summer of 2018. I sure hope *something* new (Avatarland, ROL, *whatever*) is open by then. Of course, I guess that means I'll actually have to watch Avatar by then so I know what's going on there.

I've never seen. It always just the big blue alien movie... Kids say it's a remake of Ferngully. DS says it was visually beautiful on big screen not sure that will translate to tv. He's said the rest is just another movie it was the visual that made it so popular. SO sounds like the land needs to pull off the visual...

I'll watch before I go, so far haven't been able to make myself.

My family's opinion is that Avatar was visually beautiful, but that the story was a rehash of any number of things from Pocahontas on, blended with a strong political message -- all very heavy-handed and preachy. The political stuff stuck out like a sore thumb to me -- very inartfully done -- and was a big turnoff.

I'm looking forward to Avatarland ONLY because I'm sure it will be visually stunning and immersive given Disney's track record. I have LESS THAN ZERO interest in any "story" aspect to it -- and BOY do I hope it isn't preachy.

Yeah, I can't put my finger on it why I haven't seen it. We have the movie. I never saw Titanic either. Not a fan of Cameron and can't even put my finger on why that is either. I liked some of his 80's and early 90's movies .... then his energy seemed to be more about his own fame than the movies and it was a turnoff. I haven't seen another of his films since True Lies (1994). And an almost 3 hour movie has to have a really good story .... well, I'm just going to have to watch it to understand something about this land and why Disney felt it necessary to put it there. Blue aliens are not animals. I would much rather the original idea of mystical animals. That was a huge loss to me.

It just doesn't appeal to me at all....kind of like Star Wars....which leads me to....

...maybe I won't really need to watch the movie. Maybe I can just appreciate the visuals for what they are. Kind of like the Star Wars night time show at DHS. Never saw those movies but totally appreciated (and loved!) the show even though I had no idea if there was a story line going on in front of me.

I guess the good thing is that Avatarland will be open for at least several months before I manage to get there, so I'll be able to read a lot of reviews and opinions and maybe I'll find out it's not necessary to see the movie in order to appreciate that area of AK. Then I can spare myself having to watch a movie that I really have no interest in.
