Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout

I don't understand this thinking as it relates to this decision, though.

This will make DL's attraction DIFFERENT, rather than a copy of WDW's...

Are you assuming they'll transform every ToT to GotG??

I am yes, apologies I should have made that more clear. I think it's the way Disney are going now. We are losing the originality. They want to make things easier for themselves because it's too hard and much more expensive to come up with separate ideas and building new rides instead of making over new ones.

Just my initial reaction, very upset with this news and probably a bit angry about it so a knee jerk reaction.

Understood now -- thx for the clarification. :)

What is the last groundbreaking attraction Disney has actually opened. Boy this redoing of existing rides is really getting old.

In Orlando, either Everest or Toy Story, not sure in what order they were opened. Definitely agree, it would be great if they would actually build new rides instead of re-theming existing rides!

We just don't agree, but I think history is on my side. People move on. Period. If that wasn't the case, you'd have had an exodus when they rethemed or removed any number of rides. Yet attendance increases over time.

There's how one might feel, and then there are facts. The latter are on my side here.

Whatever. Sure, people move on, but they don't forget. I loved the theming of the old Test Track, don't like the new "Tron Track", but we're not going to cancel our next trip because of one ride. Every trip we ride the new Test Track once and get off saying "I sure miss the old Test Track".

I've ridden both Florida and California TOTs, and I would be crushed if they changed the one in Orlando. No one is going to stop going to Disneyland because TOT becomes GOTG. But if Disney keeps making changes, replacing rides instead of building new ones, eventually Disney becomes a less special place, decreases people's desire to go if all the classic rides they enjoyed are gone.

And people say this every time they retheme or remove a ride. I'd agree with you IF they were removing "classic rides" en masse.

And it just is not accurate to say that they're doing this INSTEAD of building new rides. They're doing this AND building new rides (Avatar, SW, Toy Story...)... just not FAST enough... :rolleyes1

Well this is Disneyland not WDW. This is also not as extensive as maelstrom was. The ride system and vehicles are staying exactly the same. It's just a simple theming change. I'd argue maelstrom was more complicated.
Frozen Ever After uses the same exact vehicles, ride system, and track as Maelstrom. The only thing they changed was the theming of the rooms inside it. There is no way it's more complicated than the proposed changes for ToT. Just based on the artwork, the exterior alone is more complicated...I would normally say, nobody knows what they're going to do to retheme ToT, but with that short timeframe, I would say the answer is "not much" and "slap-dash" and "cheap".

I agree and that was my point and surprise on the very short turn-around timeframe.

LOL, thanks for correcting me, I guess? Not sure what that whistling emoji is supposed to mean? Anyway, I never said Disney was ONLY replacing rides and NOT building new ones. Obviously I was referring to Disney replacing DCA's TOT with GOTG instead of keeping TOT as it is and building a completely new GOTG attraction.

I'm happy that Disney is building Avatar and Star Wars in Florida. I'm happy whenever Disney builds something new, but would prefer that it doesn't involve replacing an existing ride. And while Avatar is in a new space, couldn't Star Wars technically be looked at as a replacement of a bunch of recently closed attractions like LightsMotorsAction and the Backlot Tour?

I can't see them changing it to Gotg because the Twilight Zone license is ended yet only change the ride at DLR.

Paris hasn't even had their version on ToT long

Anyway, I never said Disney was ONLY replacing rides and NOT building new ones.

But if Disney keeps making changes, replacing rides instead of building new ones,

That's what I was referring to. The words KEEPS and INSTEAD OF imply that you feel that is what they're currently doing, to me.

And the :rolleyes1 is really just me rolling eyes and sarcastically complaining about how long Disney takes to build new rides or even retheme old. :)

Doing things cheap? But they spent 5 billion on Shanghai, and plan to spend 2 billion just for Disneyland.

I hear that they've spent a boatload of money in China, and I know that they're spending lots of money domestically in Anaheim and Orlando. I'm glad that they're doing all of that work. ...but to take a great, original and beloved attraction like ToT and do a retheme on it just smells cheap - like they've spent all their money on those other three projects so they'll just hang Galaxy colored curtains over the ToT. Do people not enjoy the ToT on the West coast? Is it not popular? That's the only reason I can think of to do this.

I've been disappointed with Disney in the past, but this is the first time that I can think of them doing something so blatantly cheap AND stupid at the same time in the Parks. Thumbs down to this move.

Yeah I know Guardians is this weird exception to the whole thing (which I don't really understand)... but overall we won't be getting a Marvel Land any time soon. I'm fine with Guardians replacing something like Ellen's Energy Adventure... but ToT is sacred land.

Exactly. The Energy Pavilion is begging to be replaced or comprehensively refurbished. Disney, PLEASE do something with it! While you're at it, work over Imagination, Wonders of Life, Innoventions & Oddessy.

EXACTLY!!! Although that last part kind of sums up my feelings about universal. Can't help but feel like they've gotten rid of all their classics, save for E.T. And islands is honestly untouched outside of potter and Kong. Every other thing they added was minor. Wait why am I going on with this?

Frozen Ever After uses the same exact vehicles, ride system, and track as Maelstrom. The only thing they changed was the theming of the rooms inside it
So that new room with the slight track extension is nothing???

I'll take the minority's side in this and say that I am really excited about this! :duck: I loved GotG and all of my boys did too! The concept art and story line sound fun and exciting. When we went to DCA last fall, I was definitely underwhelmed as compared to the DHS version.

But I will also honestly admit a case of NIMBY - I really DON'T want the DHS version to change. But, we WDW regulars are going to have to cope with the fact that it seems Epcot Future World could be headed in a new direction, as that is where the GotG ride is going (or rumored to go?).

I've said this before and I'll say it again...Disney fans are THE most difficult fans. Nothing ever satisfies. We want new rides - but NEW, not overlays. And those new rides - we want them built fast! And, they had better be UH-MAZING with the latest technology and ride system!!! But don't forget you have to build it in like six months, because I don't want to see walls everywhere and I want to be able to ride it on my next trip. And should Disney decide to do an overlay, well, it will NEVER measure up. But, Disney should be adding something new EVERY year. And on and on it goes. I'm not wholesale defending Disney, but HAVE MERCY we are a PITA fan-base!!!

People may actually want to GO to DCA because this is new-ish and different from DHS. And, Disney is not JUST replacing rides - I think there's an entirely new land being built? Something to do with Star Wars?

FWIW, I think the most recent entirely new attraction at WDW is 7DMT.

For the DLR folks, I'd be bummed, too. Much prefer an entirely new Guardians attraction instead of this plan.

I'll take some heat here as well, cause honestly this is the most accurate statement about us! Some of us are sane, some on the other hand...
Part of me wants to say it's a conspiracy that higher ups read forums like these and see all the complaining and that's why we don't get anything because everyone will just complain about it anyway. Just a conspiracy theory so just shove it in your imaginary filing cabinet along with the magic bullet conspiracy

Remember, Disney had the ENTIRE catalog of Marvel properties available to them for DL and DCA...they could have made anything with Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, all of the Avengers together...but instead they make a crappy overlay to a more obscure (relatively) Marvel movie that's less family friendly.

I feel like ALL of this is because they wanted to use the same thing at WDW, and even though it seems the WDW TOT project is dead, they're STILL going along with this for DCA instead of making a real attraction that people would like and have good impressions about.

Yes, they may eventually put other Marvel properties in, but this seems like a very wrong first step.

The rumor is that a Marvel Land is in the plans for that area and the GOTG overlay is just part of the plan. Would make sense that they did the overlay with a lesser property.

The quote about the future of DCS entering a whole new universe would back that up.
