Pictures of new BCV rooms

Does anyone know if they have removed the jacuzzi tub from the villas? The photo shows a regular stand alone tub.

The coloring and theming is okay to me. I agree with a pp. more coastal living look. What I just can't wrap my head around is a white/light colored couch!

Couple of other observations, both negatives for us. They have removed the ceiling fans and most of the storage is gone. We used to store clothing in the dresser. It is gone, having been replaced with the Murphy bed. The little shelves along the side are also gone. I really don't like living out of a suitcase on vacation but it looks like that's what happening going forward.

If anyone stays in a studio could you please take pictures of the shower configuration. Assuming the previous posting of the bathroom was from the one bedroom.

I will miss the ceiling fan too. Nut I'm thinking there must be some type of clothing storage. How can they have a room with zero drawers? Seems crazy.

Oh wow - good catch! That looks like the air bubble massage tubs they have at VGF. Now that's a big improvement over VGF/BWV refurbs!

I just googled some pics of the tub at the VGF but I don't see anything in them that would massage anything. Have you tried them and are they kinda like jacuzzis?

What exactly was so "beachy" about the old room design? Where are these unique decorations and hard elements? Are we talking about the tacky, off-the-shelf lighthouse lamp?

We have had that tub twice. Once in the presidential suite at AKL (an upgrade from a 2 night club level suite booked for our 20th anniversary) and then again at VGF. It uses air thru tiny holes in the tub to create a jacuzzi. I love it!! I am so excited to see them at BCV!
I never use the jets in any of the other tubs, I like these so much more.

Great, thanks for the reply!

What I find missing in the new designs is the great attention to detail that I expect comes with the Disney name. They used to get unique designed items - or at least things that didn't come off the shelf of the largest box warehouse. Now, it seems to me that they are going and shopping at Lowes or Home Depot. The colors are lighter and brighter but it's missing uniqueness. I like over the top theme when I'm at Disney. I'm not really looking for something that a designer would do in my own home. Unfortunately the quality and fabric choices are a bit questionable. The sofas at VWL were showing twisting and turning when we stayed there just 2 months after the refurb, and wood was chipping on the coffee "table". At BWV last week I noticed a fair amount of scratching on the vinyl plank floor from chairs being moved around - and we're only a few months into that one. Also, the light colored fabric on the sofa had spots. It's going to be a difficult one to keep looking nice.

All excellent observations, it's as if Disney wasn't involved in the refurbishment. Could the new DVC management be the reason for what we see today? Do you think that the theming was better when Lewis was in charge?

I like it! When will the refurb likely be done? I have a friend who is going in December and there are 5 of them. BCV was not given as an option.
It won't be until all the rooms are done.

What is it about this old design that screams "attention to detail" and uniqueness? I'm truly curious to hear specifics. There are no Hidden Mickey's. The walls are bland. The artwork is generic. The patterns and colors are a mishmash.

The rooms weren't designed to capture the feel of some bygone era...they just happen to have fallen 15-20 years out of date. IMO, at best, the previous design looks like Pier 1 Imports circa 1995.

Not feeling it, I prefer a bit more color in the rooms. And some of the hard fixtures look like a Hampton Inn or other chain hotel.
I do like the upgraded kitchen appliances, and the tub looks nice. That's about it for me. Feels generic, but I guess I can see how I feel about it after our food and wine stay.

You can see the air jet bubbles in this video of the VGF, at 2:00 in the video. This type of tub is easier to keep clean and quieter than the old tubs.

That is hideous.

I did. It's not a strong jet like the existing tubs but it does a nice, bubbly massage. :goodvibes What I like the best is that these type of tubs do not retain any water in the jetted tubes like the whirlpool style jetted tubs.

I do think that some of the best themed DVC rooms were built under him - AKV, VGC, THV and Aulani. I even think BLT was done pretty well considering that the Contemporary theme has always flummoxed Disney. The quality of products there has been much discussed though. But there wasn't much refurb done under him - BWV got a few color changes and newer appliances. OKW - eh - they painted up some of the existing furniture and brought in other pieces that was more current. Any theme still there mostly came from what they didn't change.

The current designer and/or management loves pale green and blue and carrara type marble tile along with darker vinyl plank tile. I'm just thankful that even they couldn't see that scheme fitting at VWL even if they went more Arts and Craft style additions there vs the Railroad camp theme that was the back story.

The mixing and matching of patterns and florals was much closer to turn of the century type decor than you're giving credit for IMO. :teeth: And I don't think you can say that it wasn't unique - at least I've seen little like it elsewhere. But think more widspread - Disney without a doubt has built a reputation on attention to detail.

But no - I don't know if BCV was that good when it was designed. What I'm referring to is a hope that some of the resorts that didn't have as much theme would get at least something a little stand out in the refurbs like the detail theming that we've seen at VWL, THV, Aulani, AKV, VGC and even BLT. This refurb for BCV is fine. Just not Disney fine IMO. I'm just back from BWV and feel the same way. It's nice. Hampton Inn nice. But seeing spaceship earth from the room added theme.

And if they don't do great theme then perhaps decent quality? Questionable. Here's a picture of new BWV flooring:

Even just attention to detail. At BWV? They replaced the kitchen sinks. Now you can't place the garbage and recycling cans underneath the sink - they go in the front closet. At VWL? The refrigerators stick out several inches from the back wall because you can't open the door if you don't have it that way.

I'll add that I never was one to think that the designs ought to stay the same, I just expect different from Disney than doing the exact industry standard you'll find at any old inn. What they showed from rooms 10-15 years ago wouldn't be anything special either but they seemed to have been upping that game around the property more recently.

And I just recalled - the old BCV design might have been more industry wide than I was thinking. I had a La Quinta room outside of Sacramento that was very similar a few years ago and then the next year was getting an update along the lines that BWV got.

I'm curious about the location of that GFI plug right next to the tub.

Yes, it's a GFI, but doesn't it seem like it will be getting water in it all the time from anyone using the tub?

Why in the world is it there?
