Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

So we are headed to Disney for my daughter's third birthday and we plan to have her birthday dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table. I'm going back and forth between going the princess package that comes with the cake, or having a customized cake made for her. Is there a difference between the cake that comes with the package and a customized one?
Thank you!!

Well, I mean, the customized cake is customized, so you can have it be as big or small as you want and it can look like whatever you want... The package comes with a cake that looks like the ones in this photo:

They're both made by the same place, if that's what you mean.

That's exactly what I was trying to ask! She really doesn't need all the other stuff with the package, so I think I'll end up customizing one.
Thank you for the info!

Disneydragonfly- I just want to chime in that you can get some parts of the package by themselves and if you think there is an inkling that you/she may end up wishing for one, there are benefits to getting them at CRT. For example, if you buy a princess balloon on Main Street it will cost around $20. Whereas, it's around $10 for it to be waiting at your table at CRT. I believe the tiaras are a better price too. Someone correct me if this has changed. I'm just basing this on personal experience from a few years back.

You can order just the princess cake from the package. I asked about it a couple of months ago about it. It's $80 plus tax and gratuity. :)
Just to let you know if you do order a cake for CRT (even custom cakes not from the package), 18% gratuity is added onto the cake. I had a custom cake at CRT and had to pay an extra 18% onto the cake even though it was just the 2 of us.
But 18% gratuity is not automatically added onto custom cakes at other TS locations at the Magic Kingdom, like Be Our Guest. (Unless you're a party of 6 or are using Tables in Wonderland)

Anyone order cakes from CSR? The options listed on page 1 aren't appealing to my daughter. Wondering if there are other custom options available.

Those are the only options they have at CSR. Can you order the cake for delivery at a meal during your trip? Then, depending on where you're dining, you'd have all the options Disney offers.

looking to get either the 2 tier mini or a 6 in buttercream choc with choc mouse filling with the mickey ears and little piped mickeys in red and blue, anyone know how much i'm looking at? I'd like to stay around $50.. Also, we have ADR at Teppen Edo, Tusker House, the Plaza our first couple of days there which one should I go with I'm thinking the Plaza will give me the best cake and price, from looking through older posts? Also, can I just email magickingdomcakes?

Yes, you can email Magic Kingdom Cakes and get a quote for what you are looking for if you are planning on having it at The Plaza. It's hard to speculate what something will cost. Our 2 tier mini cake with just flowers on it and no special filling or flavors was $35. Our 6 inch cakes have varied.

I was away for the boards for awhile & missed some pages on this thread, so I don't know if this has been mentioned. Just in case it hasn't, I wanted to let you guys know that Publix has added several cake & filling flavors for their decorated cakes. A few of the filling choices sound delicious to me.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to have it delivered to the room for when we return from the park that evening. I will now seek other options.

Thanks, we are just on the fence about what size to get we have 7 in our party, but we have the dining plan too, so we will all get a desert anyway.. I will email and get some quotes!

Do you think I could request a mini cake like one of those from the Epcot bakery for dinner at Akershus?

You can certainly request one! I'd send them the photo and see what they say... (Then let us know!) ;)

I would go for at least a 6 inch cake for that many people. A 6 inch 2 layer would probably be just enough, but they might push you towards bigger. A 2 tier Mini cake to me was no more than 2 people. But I probably could eat it alone, lol.

I called the Yacht and Beach Club private dining number and they wouldn't give me the pastry chef's email? :confused3 They said I had to go through them (private dining) and that they would email the bakery. And that the only flavors were vanilla, marble and chocolate.

Ugh - sometimes this happens. Did they at least give you THEIR email to which you can send exactly what you want (including photos and details on the flavors you want - only the chef can say for sure) so that they can forward it to the pastry chef? You can also try calling back at a different time to get a more knowledgeable CM.

Is it possible to request a specific cake artist? I'm planning a birthday cake for my mother to be delivered at the Polynesian O'Hana restaurant, and it seems Pat at the GF designs exactly what I'm looking for.

ok next question, if I am emailing to order a custom cake for a lunch at The Plaza, do i email magickingdomcakes or thecontemporary?
