Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER RESORT Information & Questions

Why is it that the POR resorts take fax request seriously and the other resorts don't?

They did not for us. We requested top floor, away from pool, specific building numbers and close to or friends. They gave us exactly the opposite. We went back to registration, looked at a map and got what we wanted, no problem. Resort seemed half empty. Not sure why they didn't give us that in the first place!

I've just had an updated that the new Children's Water Play area should (hopefully!) now be completed by the end of February. Apparently the contractor ran into multiple unforeseen issues which delayed the project.

Remember requests are not guarantees. It may have been that they were unable to look at it in advance for some reason, and so it was left to the Ready Room system? I assume you had previously added the same requests to your booking in the reservations system (in case the fax did not get through)?

Is the room type such as Garden View a guarantee or a request? I requested Garden View for the best chance to two beds. It is uncomfortable at best to put two related, but not same gender adults in a room with only a King Bed. This happened back in my 2012 trip and I spent four nights on a folding bed at Pop Century.

Sorry, that doesn't make sense. ALL rooms at Port Orleans have two queen-size beds (unless you specifically book a King Bed category room anyway, which is a higher price). Some rooms actually have three beds - the Alligator Bayou section rooms feature an additional fold-down murphy-style bed above a bench-seat (suitable for kids or smaller adults only though).

Garden View is a booking category, not a request. If you have paid the relevant fee for a Garden View, which you can check on your Booking Confirmation, then that's what you should get. You should not get a King bed as that's a different booking category and price.

For more information on booking categories and room locations, see www.portorleans.org/room-locations.php

I know they are not guarantees. I was just responding to a PP who said that you get what you request. Not always correct, even at FQ. We had thecrequestscin the original system and my friend called and talked to someone actually at the resort, our reservations were linked together, and she requested exactly what we wanted. She did get a top floor for our first room, but other than that nothing was close. But when we went back, they found us rooms that had everything we wanted! So not sure what the issue was. Most resorts I've had better luck with requests. That said, I love the resort, will probably stay there next time. Whenever that is...:(:sad1::sad2:

We didn't get what we requested either. Well, to be fair, I suppose we got part of what we requested. We wanted building 6 third floor, but got building 2 third floor. It was probably better as we were even closer to the river and could watch the ferry dock from our balcony, but I was disappointed when I first checked in.

Does anyone know why POFQ is rarely included in the room discount offers which usually include all of the other moderates? And is anyone aware of any discount available for POFQ for runDisney events when it is a host resort? Any info is greatly appreciated...as we've never stayed at POFQ but would like to stay there during the W&D 1/2 marathon in November this year.

They don't need to included POFQ because they can fill the rooms without discounts. It is the smallest Moderate and very popular so the rooms book up at rack rates. POFQ is usually included in room only discounts but POFQ rooms are usually 5% off and the other moderates 20-25%.

hi guys! We have a reservation for a standard room set, I'm very excited!
Reasing through everyone's comments on where to stay- would requesting bldg 3 or 6 be the best idea for quiet but near pool and transportation still? Is 3rd floor best?

I did manage I think a 15% discount with the latest round that Disney put out. Which was odd since as you mentioned they normally don't. So we got tax covered and a little bit extra :goodvibes.

IIRC, no standard rooms in bldg 6. Bldg 3 has standard rooms; I'd think that would be a good location for you.

Just ask for what you want - quiet, near pool and transportation. However, since standard rooms are pretty much parking lot view, those rooms aren't going to be the closest to the pool. Honestly though, the resort is so compact that no room should be too far of a walk from the pool.

Have they announced specific dates?

Nothing has been announced, but I'm hearing very tentative plans for room refurbishments to start sometime in 2017. I would expect POFQ would probably be done first, and then they'd move on to Riverside, over perhaps a two-year period depending on whether it's more of a soft-goods refit or if they do another complete gut and redecorate.

Thanks for the update.... sooooo close to when we're coming so praying it's done 3rd week of Feb. Not that I'm expecting to swim alot, but would be a nice treat.

Help me choose a building! I'm staying at POFQ for the first time. I'd like to be on the side "closer" to POR, so I'm looking at buildings 4-7. I'm booked into a garden view room. I'd like a location that's fairly quiet while still being fairly close to the food area and the pool (but I do not want to be too close to the pool). Sooo, I'm thinking building 6 would be best, but building 4 looks like a nice location too.

So give me your thoughts on those two buildings and which you prefer (and why)!!! Thanks so much, I want to figure out which building to request.
