Let me first say that we have spent a total of 11 nights at Poly this year on two different trips one in July the other this past week during Thanksgiving... I must point out that the room renovations are fantastic, they are spacious, the second shower is extremely convenient and the over all property looks amazing. However the level of noise before 9am from the Maintenance and Landscape departments shocking. During our stay this past week we were in room 1036, first floor Lake view. EVERY morning at 6:50am there was a worker riding a small tractor raking the beaches!! He started on the Ticket and Transportation side of the property and worked his way to the boat landing. Took him about an hour. Then around 8:15 am he started his Leaf blower and blew the sand that was tracked on to the sidewalks from his Tractor wheels and blew it all back to the beach. Now, I completely understand maintaining the property to our expectations, but starting at 6:50am in my opinion is unnessasary. During our stay in July, our family was woken 5 consecutive days before 9am with these landscaping and maintenance activities. Grass mowing, tree trimming, pressure washing our sliding glass door on a Sunday morning, which startled each of us when the pressure washer come across the door, ear blowers.
I'm sharing our experience because if you are a family who takes advantage of the late night extended Magic Hours, you might want to book another property other then Poly, because you will be awakened early the next morning.
And yes, I brought our experience to the Manger on Duty as well as an email after our visit. We received no return email.

I think we had that one morning that I noticed with the sand being raked. It definitely needs to be brought to the attention of the resort and DVC. If they don't respond I would email them again. The funny thing is that the sand near T&T and in front of Moorea is hardly touched.

Just things you have to deal with if you want Disney to look it's best.

They would rather risk waking up a few guests, then having hundreds or thousands see unkempt lawns or public areas. If it was enough to wake you, then you were probably ready to get out of bed anyway.

I for one do not want to see maintenance work during the day. It has always been the Disney illusion that 2am to 6am is when everything gets made new again.

Your preference of course. I don't care if I see maintenance workers - they were still around thru out the morning anyway. I quite prefer to be woke up by my alarm at the time I set.

I can understand if it was one morning but not every single morning! Trust me...we were not ready to get out of bed,nor were our children.

Lol, we were in 1037 and 1038 a few weeks ago. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! I was more than a little surprised by it.

Very surprising! I understand the need for maintenance but I think it could be handled at a different time...perhaps after 9am.

especially in the summer. the difference between 6am and 9am could be 30 degrees.

plus, I would rather work 6am to 3pm in the florida sun vs 9am to 6pm.

I can see where it would be annoying, but I agree with this. The earlier the better for the workers' comfort. I stayed recently in one of the non-DVC areas of the Poly, and we had no noise at all other than the monorail gliding by, so I can't speak to the noise by the beach.

That might be true for you, but for those of us with insomnia issues noise outside our rooms can be a huge deterrent to sleep.

I agree that lawn & similar maintenance needs to be done early here in FL just because it's so blazing hot most of the year, but before 7am right near rooms or villas is a bit much IMHO.

The property looks amazing because of the maintenance. It's no surprise that beach maintenance would be done prior to guests being on the beach or wanting to be out and using the grounds. Imagine how upset people would be if some sand blew into their eyes. It's unfortunate, but I don't know of a better time for that maintenance to happen.

That's fine, just use a hand rack or drag the screen by hand and not a noisy tractor. I think it is a bit presumptive to say that if it wakes you, you were probably ready to get up.

The maintenance has to be done, and unfortunately there is no time that will please everyone. I've seen someone else on this board complain bitterly about being disturbed by maintenance noise in the middle of the afternoon, because her kids were taking a nap. There is no time they can do the work that will not disturb someone. Try and temper your annoyance with the understanding that they're not trying to disturb you, and their job is just as much a part of creating Disney magic as the actors who play Mickey and Minnie.

Totally agree, Shanti. The only thing I take issue with is the noisy activities right next to hotel rooms/villas before 7:30am. On the grounds away from villas, they can do it in the middle of the night if they like. I moved to a new community where I was the first home finished on the block so there was a LOT of construction all around me for some time but there was a community mandate that no one could start construction activities before 7:30am.

I remember one time a friend and I were staying in a studio at BWV, Boardwalk view. I think we were on the 3rd floor. One morning I woke up hearing my friend yelling down to workers spray washing the boardwalk to be quiet! I guess they were talking loud.

There are upwards of thousands of guests at each resort along with hundreds of CMs, many using noisy equipment. At night not only might we hear CM and guests outside our villa, but many guests talk very noisy in the hallways at all hours and even allow their children to run down the hall (and NOT using "indoor voices"). I certainly cannot expect that our room will be as quiet as a tomb even during late evening and early morning hours.

What we find that works is to use a white machine app on our phone. We also use this at home so it adds a sense of familiarity. We have used this for all our trips - from a Boardwalk view room, to an OKW room right over the fairway, to other rooms right on the bus turnaround, to a room overlooking the airline check-in and front door of BWV. We have never had a noise issue as the white noise drowns out or very much lessens any noise from outside or in the hall. It also allows someone to stay sleeping in a separate bedroom without the rest of us needing to tiptoe around in the other room.
