Marathon Weekend 2016

Non Running Question:
Who is frying a Turkey for Thanksgiving or for the weekend this year? I CANT WAIT!!!

I am. It is much quicker to cook and clean up is just as easy. We have done this the last 3 or 4 years and it works out so well.

Well, the doctor had x-rays performed and eliminated stress fractures as my problem. He believes that I have moderate tears in the tendons on the top of my foot. He has asked that I take another 2 weeks off from running to see how it reacts. If I see no improvement, he wants me to see a podiatrist as the tear may be more severe.

So, two more weeks without running. I just might go insane. But that would leave me with enough time to get ready for the Dopey if I can immediately jump back into my training, so I'll just have to wait and see. I am prepared to defer if I have to, but I will not be canceling my WDW vacation in January.

Buckeye, why wait to go to the podiatrist? I did the same thing and had I not waited I wouldn't have missed my October marathon because it was as simple as a stretch that fixed it all. The fact that he "believes" it is something would make me go to the specialist. How mad will you be if you wait and when you go you find out it was a simple fix. On top of that, there is usually a deadline to have to request a deferral by and it might be 30 days out from the race. That is fast approaching. I may be wrong about that but I looked into it last year for ToT and I am pretty sure it is 30 days. If you miss that deadline you lose the money. Just a couple things to keep in mind.

As for my plans:

I am wearing regular running clothes. I'm boring.

ADR's:
1/8- Via Napoli
1/9- Boma for breakfast, 1900 Park Fare for Dinner (might cancel this one)
1/10- The Boathouse for dinner
1/11- No ADR but I might try and get into Chef Mickey's, we'll see

5k-- I am Anna and DD is Elsa (Breakfast at 1900)
10K-- I am Woody and DS is Buzz (Breakfast at Ohanas)
Half-- I have a Dr. Who tank (Cape May)
Marathon-- unsure, I think I will be wearing my Homes For Our Troops shirt(the charity I am running for) (Paradiso 37)

We are also eating at Biergarten and Hollywood and Vine during our stay.

I just tried looking up the deferral process for you and you might have missed it. The link for the deferral process is supposed to be under the registration tab for that race. I looked 3 times and don't see it. You might want to email runDisney to check. I would send it ASAP because it takes a few days for them to respond and with Thanksgiving this week they might not even get it til next week.

I'm seriously thinking about replicating a McFarland shirt to wear for one of the races.

LOVE that movie.

Going to age myself hear, but growing up in Central California I ran against McFarland in Cross Country a few years after the time period of the movie. We were thoroughly beaten! I was so excited when I heard about the movie and maybe saw it three times... Great idea for a costume!

No costumes for me, I just don't like all the extra stuff when I am running. But I do love seeing what creative stuff others come up with!

They might not be taking any more deferrals. I believe they only take so many and then take the link down. I wanted to defer last year but was too late.

As far as deferrals, per Facebook the link was supposed to go up on the 24th (today).

Deferrals were supposed to be today at noon, but there was apparently a problem with the link, so they have moved them to Dec. 1st. There were a bunch of us in the Dopey Challenge Facebook group waiting for the link to appear, and finally someone called RunDisney. Thank goodness, since I wrote to them 5 days ago, about deferral and have yet to hear back! So check back on Dec. 1st!

Agh! I was hoping that I would be inspired by everyone's outfits and it would help me make up my mind! But, alas, I'm still thinking about a combination of things:

SpectroMagic Ballet Ostrich
McFarland runner
Disney "plaid" VIP person
Minnie Mouse/Donald/Pluto (correspond VIPs with the race)
Figment
Spaceship Earth
Dole Whip

I had tossed around the idea of a plaid VIP person as I have a plaid tech shirt, all cool ideas you have! I don't see how some runners run in the full body suit costumes or big fluffy tutus, but it's fun to see. A guy this year was painted as Black & White Mickey (like his whole face), he looked a bit sweaty by Wide World, but it was cool. I need to still see "McFarland", but was excited to see it made as I love cross country. Illuminations cruise sounds fun!

I usually have really good luck with disney store shirts fitting, but they must have been using some other company for these custom parks shirt things. I'm still hopeful that I can figure out something really cute anyways. I still may end up being a running Epcot ball...all silver. Maybe I can figure out a way to make a head band with that Epcot wand thing from the early 00's on it? Still time to figure it out.
And my shirt is still an ok pajama shirt so not a total loss.
Love the running Epcot Ball idea, I kept thinking of doing Spaceship Earth, but switched ideas. Hope you post a picture if you decide on that!

Thanks for the head-up and information on the deferral process and policy. I will decide between now and 12/1 whether or not to defer.

I hope things improve sooner than later for you. A broken bone is almost better thing to have (Known x days to recover) then a tear of a tendon (unknown days to recover). If its just inflamed, then some rest will get it back in a shorter time. I had a similar issue last year, so I know how frustrating the whole situation is. One of the perks for doing this race is, if you are injured you can still go Disney and enjoy the parks. It is one of the reasons I picked this race this year.

Have you been following the LSU coaching situation? Its been a wild week and I think all the speculation will be over within the next 7-10 days with Jimbo Fisher being our new coach.

Why would Fisher leave FSU? Easier conference to win and less pressure than in Baton Rouge.

He likes LSU and $$$ + current divorce situation helps. His agent is probably just getting him a raise from FSU, but we will find out. Earlier this week he gave the kiss of death comment when asked about LSU "No comment".

I'm not sure who it was that was considering dressing up as spaceship earth, @roxymama? maybe? But it reminded me of a costume I saw at our local Yuri's Night Space Party. A couple dressed up, with the woman wearing a silver ball (looked exactly like it) that was about the size of the fruit of the loom apple costume in the commercials, and the man wore a black outfit with monorails covering his arms. When they were called onstage for the costume contest he put his monorail arms out and ran circles around her.

I about died. It was the best disney costume I've ever seen. But the monorail circling did it. The crowd went nuts and they won 1st place.

That sounds Amazing! I would totally do that if I didn't have to run in it. I'm thinking more along the lines of silver running clothes and sparkle skirt and Epcot logo shirt etc. So still looking like a runner...just a very shiny runner!!!

Similar idea... :)

Wow, those costumes are brilliant!

Quick, someone make a giant transformers costume, but with monorail arms and legs so I can take a picture with you!
