More good stuff for Disney Springs - will this now be a must do destination?

DTD used to feel like a must-do...but then I realized I don't like shopping - the big gift shops in the parks are enough for me - and the food is mostly not worth going out of my way for...I am excited to see if the new look changes the way I feel. When I was growing up, we always went to DTD. It felt like another theme park, but even a trip to the mall felt like an adventure back then. :)

We have to visit DTD/Disney Springs, as it the only place to pick up the free gift card that comes with our package. Very sneaky of Disney there.

DH hates shopping, we don't go with a huge souvenir budget, and we don't do expensive dining for the sake of it. We normally try and eat in places we think are worth paying for. As such, DTD/DS isn't a huge draw for us. We can do what we need/want to in about 2 hours.

We stayed at SSR last year, and so were very close, but only popped in once. Not our thing really. I'm sure it's great if you're into the kind of thing, but it's not really for us!

I'm hoping The Boathouse, Morimoto's Asia and the new steak place that is opening are worth it! I've read some good reviews - hoping will be good. (prices don't actually seem that high in my opinion - just the two of us) Art Smith's new place too....I mean we won't be there every night of trip, but nice to have new options.

We decided to check out Disney Springs one evening last week after skipping DTD for the last few years. I think I am good without going back for another 5 years now. We aren't all about the restaurants there though. We usually go after dinner. Shopping wise, it is still just crazy crowded in the evenings and most of the merchandise can still be found in the parks. We find a few things we had not seen in the parks that we liked, but it still isn't worth dealing with the crazy crowds to me. We could barely move through WOD and people were constantly slamming into me.
Keep in mind that a large part of the development,Town Center, isn't even open yet and also WoD is right in the middle of their expansion.:)

I totally want to go to Morimoto. I'm torn between getting an actual lunch reservation or just doing a walk up and maybe asking for a table in the bar and maybe doing a lite appetizer based meal. An actual reservation would mean no problem on availability but being locked into a time, I would really like to wing it but not sure just how busy it's going to be once they open up for lunch.

The Disney Suits dumped the best entertainment to be had at that site, The Adventurer's Club and the Comedy Warehouse, and replaced them with more over priced merch and grub. PI used to be something I'd fly from Pa to visit all by itself, now Raglan Road and possibly that new Indiana Jones themed pub are all that's worth a visit, especially considering the God Awful traffic around there.

So there is no way to make a reservation for Morimoto on WDW.com. However if you go to their Facebook they have the reservation number. I decided to go ahead and make a lunch reservation. I have a free day before going to the MNSSHP, so I have an early lunch set. The menu (also on Facebook) looks outstanding.

I have only been to the marketplace. I went to Raglan Road for lunch and I got off of the launch when the market place dock was closed, but I've never been any further into that side of the area. I'm looking forward to looking around at what is there and what's coming.

I was on the fence, but now I am sold!

You must give us your review after you go! :)

Is that the Chocolate Crème and Crunch? Man I might have to ignore the allergies and have dessert there. So much yummy stuff.

I'm really tempted by the mm parfait. Only the desserts are for two and I'm solo. Wonder if I kept the gelato on the side I could take half for later.

Probably get flamed for this.....but have never understood the DTD draw. ( just asked the fam, and most were neutral, but said they like looking in the stores when it isn't busy.)

I like Raglan Road. Is the shopping there ultra unique? Not that I can tell. Plus, it just seems crazy busy every time.

No flames, it's one of those things you either like or don't like. I like it because I hate the shops in the parks. I would rather go to one place and do a hit and run shopping trip. WoD is just easy to go grab the few things I want then move on. I also like the atmosphere and the restaurants. It's not a whole or half day thing for me but I tend to spend a few hours there every trip.

It's been "remodeled" - new shops, old shops, old restaurants, new restaurants (some still to come), probably still crowded though! :)

I think it's going to be more of a food/drink draw for some people....

I will say I use it sort of in the same manner with my kids. "We are not buying anything at the park, we will go to DTD." So, I guess in some respects it is useful. :)

new high priced restaurants aren't a draw for me,
There are quite a few eating places that don't fall into that category. Have you tried Splitsville? How about the Food Trucks?

I only go if I have a good half day and it's raining and I don't feel like visiting another resort and I'm bored. I don't find the shops have anything more than I can get in the parks or at home
If you haven't been in 6 months you may be surprised at how much this place has changed. There is much, much more available here than just stuff you can find in the parks.

Design A Tee was one of our favorite parts of our trip, I think that is the only place to do that (I am actually wearing my shirt right now :)!).

I would probably be more inclined to visit more than once if they'd improve transportation to/ from the resorts. One bus stop at the Marketplace for all of Disney Springs is just ridiculously inadequate. If it wasn't such a PITA to get there and back we'd most likely eat there more often. Very few of the shops hold much interest to me, so an hour or 2 of shopping on one evening after dinner is really all I'd need. We're not the types to hang out at a bar all night paying exorbitant prices for frou frou drinks.

Despite all the construction going to disney springs was one of my fave things to do when i visited last month.

I loved looking in the shops and really like the new co op store.

Forgot this was opening too!

Sorry guys, but this sounds like a lot of fun - dining, palm readers, cabaret, live entertainment - night time stuff!

Yes, that is one of the places that could end up changing my mind. Have you heard this rumor as well? http://thedisneyblog.com/2015/09/17/disney-springs-to-add-a-walts-restaurant-and-more-news/

Those two places also sound amazing.

Sorry, I was mostly referring to the brand new places like Morimoto's and Boathouse. The food trucks sound intriguing, but only if the corn dogs are like DL's. I have been wanting to try Splitsville, but it is hard to make time for it.
