It sure is. I have to deal with this often in my line of work. It doesn't apply to domestic travel, only international. (And crossing the US/Canada border counts.)

Yep, @kastoney. I've got a TR going and just related the story of how I didn't bother bringing a letter this time, since I've never been asked for one after years of travelling alone with one or both DDs. This time I got asked for the letter (and of course it was the first time I didn't have one!) and was briefly detained before being allowed to enter the States.

Thanks for the schooling. I had no idea. Good thing I haven't tried to run off with my daughter to Lichtenstein lately

Have a fantastical trip!!

Thanks!! I plan to :))

Btw, you may need to spring the surprise before you go through security - in case they ask her if she knows where she is going

That's a good point...don't wanna mess around with customs and security. I will probably have her figure out when we go to check bags :)

Can't wait to hear/read all about it when you return!!!!

You bet!!

I guess if you told her as you picked her up early from school as part of the surprise, there would sure be a great reaction from the other kids at school, wouldn't there?

Yeah I could do that. Or I might be able to keep her thinking it's Washington until we actually arrive at the airport...but then all bets are off I think...

But I would go for comfort first and foremost...of course I am saying this without having read all the details! LOL!

I agree - I don't want to be regretting my clothing choice for either of us!

I've never heard of having to do that before...

It's only for international travel...so since we are from Canada...even though really when I go to the US I don't really feel like it's another country but...we might as well be aliens when it comes to customs lol

can't wait to read about it and how the surprise goes!!

You bet!!

SINGLE DIGIT DANCE TIME, BABY!!

Yayyyy!!! Thanks!! Dancin' away!!!

Good thing I haven't tried to run off with my daughter to Lichtenstein lately

Ha yep...good to know, right? We actually have to do this quite a lot because my parents live in South Florida for the winter, so every time we go there, I almost always fly there with the kids a few days before my hubby since he can't take as much time off work. So I know the drill...but someone it always seems to creep up on me as I'm trying to remember all the things I need to do to get ready for a trip...and sometimes it's hard to squeeze in a lawyer visit!! But it's done now...and we got one for our Christmas trip to the US at the same time so we won't have to worry about that (as long as I don't lose the letter before then lol)

So I've pretty much finished packing for DD...but myself..that's another story...my bedroom is a complete mess. I keep trying to take out clothes and make outfits for each day...but then I keep getting interupted before I can finish...so there are a lot of clothes all over the place...sigh...but it will get done one of these days...not sure when exactly lol as we have a busy weekend coming up too.

One of our traditions is to go to one of those family farm places in the fall and take pictures with piles of pumpkins. The kids are getting a little old for all their activities now...tractor rides and corn mazes and such...but I am still insisting we do it. Even if they roll their eyes at me now...I'd like to hope that when they are older they will appreciate that we had traditions that we did every year....:) And don't just make fun of their old mother for it lol. Well they'll get it when they have their own kids in any case!!

OMG it's October!!!!! In case I don't get back here in the next few days, have a wonderful, fantastic trip, and I hope DD is truly happily surprised when you tell her and it's all you're hoping it'll be :love:Can't wait to read all about your trip!!

Wishing you a WONDERFULLY magical trip! You'll be there before you know it! Have a great time, and I'll catch you on the flipside. :)

OMG!!! T-1 to Disney!! Wahooooo! And I can not believe that it's still a surprise. Either that or my 9 year old DD is an amazing liar. I'd be scared lol.

I feel bad about all the lying I've had to do lately lol. But when she finds out I'm sure she won't mind. The funny thing is I've had to lie to sooo many people for fear of someone blabbing and ruining the surpirse. I've told even her teacher and some of her friends' parents etc that we are going to Washington lol. I know that most of them probably would have kept the secret - but you just never know lol.

I did a stupid thing on the weekend - wore some uncomfortable boots because, well, the dumb things we do to get the cute sweater and skinny jeans and boots look because it's fall and I couldn't not. So...now I have blisters on my heels BEFORE even setting foot in a theme park. Not good. They are getting a bit better but I think I will need to apply some bandaids or moleskin or something to prevent them getting worse. That or abandon my plan of wearing my sketchers go walk shoes in favour of Birkenstocks on the park..but not sure I could do a whole park day in those either...dilemma!!

The packing is almost done. Still have to figure out what to put in our carry ons. I've decided to use my dd's backpack that she will use as a carry on, as a park bag. I like backpacks because hands-free, and also hers is light and a bit smaller which seems perfect for the park. Hopefully it isnt TOO small for all the crap to carry...but maybe that's good because it will limit the amount of junk I can lug around and probably won't use anyway... And I will probably end up taking everything out of the suitcases tonight and going through it again to make sure I haven't either forgotten anything important or brought too much (probably the latter).

Went to the dollar store today and picked up some fun things for DD to do on the plane...so maybe for once I may actually get to "gasp" watch a movie on the plane or read a magazine in peace lol since only travelling with one child - instead of two children plus a husband (or third child lol).

Tomorrow's plans are a bit of work, probably a pharmacy, and if there's time, maybe a pedicure :) And I will be very impressed if all that happens before I have to go pick up DD at school at about 2:30pm!!

Anyway...I may not have time to get back here, so see ya on the flipside! If we are chilling in the room I may do some quick updates during the trip!! But otherwise...later gators!

Oh, no - not blisters before you even begin! Take care of yourself!

And in case I don't get another chance before you leave - have a great trip!

:headache::scared::eek::scared1: Oh NO!!!!!

I would keep both with you. That way you can switch through out the day giving your feet needed breaks and definitely stock up on the moleskine.

Oh and of course I can't forget.......

Have a safe trip!!!

Woot!!!

A child... that lies?????

No. I don't believe it.

:rolleyes1

Wow. I never would've thought about fibbing to other people who might talk to my kid!
Impressed.

Oh, poop.
Big ol' slabs of moleskin for you!

I like backpacks because hands-free

::yes::

Anyway...I may not have time to get back here, so see ya on the flipside!

Have a magical, fun filled trip!

But otherwise...later gators!

In a while, crocodile.

definitely stock up on the moleskine.

Both you and @pkondz mentioned this...and I've read about it in many a PTR...but...I don't think I actually know what this is...or don't think I've ever seen it? Where does one get this and what exactly is it? I have bandaids...but...is this better? Worth looking for last minute tomorrow if I have time?

The gift shop sells the moleskin but it will be hard to find scissors to cut it with.

Thanks so much!! This is good to know - I'm sure I would have put it on wrong if I got it!! I will try to get some tomorrow and make sure I bring my nail scissors (in my checked bag of course lol)

Have an awesome trip!!!
And I'm pretty impressed that you were able to keep the surprise - she's going to be so excited when you finally reveal it!

Looks like the moleskin got covered already.
But if you do forget the scissors, (like I did)
you can borrow some from the gift shop or front desk.

Just stopping by to wish you a FABULOUS trip!!! :woohoo:

DH bought me an INDUSTRIAL roll of Moleskin one year for Christmas, because I couldn't figure out where to buy it - and I am still not sure where he purchased it - but it's about 12" wide x 3" thick - pretty sure it's the size of a paper towel roll... So, Ialways cut it down into manageable squares before we leave. But just in case - I bring one of my girls' old blunt tip scissors from Kindergarten... I never thought to ask the gift shop or front desk. :scratchin But that stuff was an absolute LIFE SAVER when we were on our Aug 2013 trip and I scraped the top of my foot on the lazy river (of all places... Sigh) at Blizzard Beach... I am going to read that link above though - because I am pretty certain I apply it wrong. :scratchin

Anyways - have a fabulous time!!! Enjoy every moment and I hope the surprise goes off with out a hitch! :woohoo:

D~
