I know the dates aren't out yet or even close for June 2017 but my family is hoping to organize a big family cruise June of this year and we've already done Alaska so I'm wondering if the Magic is even an option for our family or if anyone knows for sure if it's going to Europe? Just wondering.....

I will go out on a limb and predict the Magic will head to Europe in 2017. In fact, I will guarantee it!

I figured as much! The first year we started cruising with DCL was the year they didn't head to Europe and did a bunch of NYC cruises I believe....I just assumed that they didn't go to Europe every summer but I know that is where the money is......we were hoping to do the Magic that summer but it looks like it will be the Fantasy! Or...if the prices make another huge jump we simply will have to go elsewhere....not everyone in my family is as in love with DCL as me! Go figure!!!!!

I would be surprised if DCL raised prices again, said no one ever.

Perhaps. I hope it does, I would love to sail to Norway on DCL. Perhaps some others on this board that are better at reading the tea leaves than me can comment on more specific itineraries for DCL in 2017.

A bit off topic, but related to releasing itineraries: Are the itineraries usually released before booking actually opens? Is it announced in advance? I know Platinum folks get first dibs but just wondering how closely a person has to stalk it....

Well, DCL may make some general announcements as to what itineraries they will "soon be offering", but, AFAIK, the release date is when the definite information is available.

It is a possibility that the Wonder may go over in 2017 instead so that it can get a makeover in Cadiz just like the magic. The Panama Canal may be ready by summer 2017 so the Magic and her duck tail could fit through for the Alaska season.

The Wonder is going into dry dock in 2016, after the EBPC. That is why the EBPC is in August not September or October.

Well, in 2017 the Dream and Fantasy are no longer contractually obliged to homeport in Port Canaveral. So, 2017 is the year when theoretically any of the four ships could go to Europe.

Yikes. I hope there are still good sailings from Port Canaveral. It's so much more convenient for us than other ports. Am going to be "angst"-ing until the early 2017 dates come out....

Your not likely to see a change in the itins out of PC. Maybe ships but not itins. Should be the usual cruises of 3/4 possibly 5 day double dip Bahamas, and alternating 7 day east west. In the event that DCL finally adds a 5th and 6th ship, all bets are off. Logic would have a 3rd ship at PC full time doing something different than the traditional cruises.

Actually, its the 5 year span in the drydock requirement that got the Wonder. Simply put, any ship over 15 years old, must go into a dry at least 2x in a 5 year period, with an interval not to exceed 3 years. Her last dd was in Jan of 14, but the 1 before that was Sept of 11, which would technically place her out of service as her hull and safety certificates would expire.

It is possible and one of the things that is being floated, that the Wonder does the EBPC, then heads straight for Cadiz empty for her dd, then summers in Europe. Realistically, any yard can do the upgrade that the Magic got. It all depends on what the big wigs at DCL have planned.

Thank you for that information. I just looked on the blog site and it says that the Wonder will be in dry dock in 2016 in Cadiz after the EBPC. I wanted to make sure I remembered that information and was reminded that the Magic had been in dry dock this year because the Wonder would be next year. Also I knew that the Panama Canal expansion is done and they are testing the new locks.

Sorry I'm hijacking too. Just to ask a silly question can the larger ships fit in all the European ports the Magic usually goes to? I can understand the Wonder but the Dream/Fantasy seem much bigger and, for example, 2016 they are doing a British Isles cruise and I just couldn't imagine a larger ship docking in some of those ports - and I'm not saying all of them just some of them. Also the PC cruises always seem very popular and full so wouldn't it make more sense to move the smaller ships than the bigger ones?

Not sure about every port, but many of the ships that do European cruises are at least the size of the Dream/Fantasy. Just think of the Royal and Regal Princes, the newer NCL ships and the MSC ships. Even the Oasis (or was it the Allure) is doing cruises in the Med now.

I would think that if the newer ships came to Europe, they would not do all the special itineraries that the Magic has been doing in 2015 and 2016, but focus more on standard Med cruises. However, who knows what DCl is thinking and planning...

Thanks. It was more the special cruises I think that have the smaller ports. I hope they don't send over Dream/Fantasy as the standard med itineraries aren't very appealling for me but that's just me
