Parking Increase to $20 on 10/4 CONFIRMED

Wow-- this card is beyond useless-- at 150 (FL resident price) you would need to spend 750 on sit down meals before breaking even-- then another 750 to have a savings of 10%---I guess if you are taking a trip where you plan to spend 1500 on sit down dining, 10% is better than nothing....

We easily spend over 1500 on food when we are there, so still worth it.

Parking went from $17 to 20 ... a (nearly) 18% increase?

Seems harsh. I know that actual inflation is higher than the official inflation, but this is ridiculous.

Remember that super-expensive, elaborate reconstruction and flyover announced for the MK toll booth and parking area? The one that some of us speculated was precipitated by plans to build condo towers near the TTC ... and maybe elsewhere around the lagoon ...

And the gigantic garage at DHS which will apparently cost as much as the entire theme park cost to build 20 years ago?

Err, nothing, just reminding you. Probably not connected at all.

If you stay on-site, you park for free, I think they are trying to keep making it more appealing to stay onsite. Honestly, if $21 a week changes whether or not you can take your Disney vacation, you probably should be saving your money and not going.

I believe it is not just the extra $3 per day, but the grand scheme plans that this indicates in regards to pricing. It's also the "why" to it. $20 is a little much to park, IMO.

Just want to point out that $20 is actually pretty average or below average if you consider parking in many places. Many sports venues charge at least $20 to park likely more for preferred parking. Also I have been to six flags great America and I'm pretty sure they charge $25 to park.

I understand the sports venues, they have to maximize profits, as there are only so many home games per year. Handing over a $20 to park just seems like a lot to me, granted I haven't paid to park anywhere in a while, when we stay at Disney, we stay on site. 6 flags is definitely getting a premium, I guess. $25 would definitely be hard to swallow.

Nope...I think it was Disneyland only.

And I think I hit the nail on the head as to why...

Like when c3po walks into the bar in Star Wars: "we don't want your kind"

Good points. They're not exactly comparable however since nobody attends major sports games or Six Flags for a week at a time.

Professional sports are in general a good analogy to WDW in that no matter how high teams raise the prices of tickets, parking, food and souvenirs, almost every city still has around 20-30 thousand people who will happily pay it. So far.

You can't compare disney parks to six flags...

I would have to pay great adventure 22 to park...but I don't have to pay southwest $350 to fly there on $215 at night a Caribbean to stay there

It was $6 from like 98-2005...and valet was no fee "other than tip" until like 2008.

They're making money off transportation...it is what it is.

Now
Give us a new rail system or at least some new monorails...

But no.

I understand I was just throwing the point out there. Universal is currently $17 that might change soon too as they tend to follow Disney on those sorts of things.

As you said, most sporting events don't last a week, but there's usually cheaper options on where to park when you do attend a sporting event, i.e. Street, Off-site parking, mass transit. WDW offers none of these.

Actually I feel that parking lots, especially open-air ones and not just at Disney, are a big scam. Once you make the initial investment on building one, how much does it cost to actually maintain it? Not much I assume. Labor to man it, maybe repave and repaint every so often, keeping it clean, but that's about it as opposed to an actual building or attraction. No wonder people want to pave paradise and put up a parking lot. Big money-maker!

I don't know where else to ask this, so I'm asking it here.

I was looking at the TIW benefits and noticed that to get the parking benefit by entering a parking lot at Disney after 5:00 all you have to do is flash your TIW card at the parking plaza. Is that correct?

I'm apparently stoopid and didn't realize that AP holders didn't get free parking at Disney until this change.

AP holders except FL resident seasonal passes always got free parking, it's nothing new. The Epcot after 4 pass only allowed free parking at Epcot.

THANK YOU! I couldn't figure out what the fuss about free parking was about, but I also couldn't find anything about parking benefits for AP holders because the website seems to now only have information about the new passes and not the ones that we currently have.

Assuming this is what you are reading - Since AP and Premium AP (both regular and FL Resident) already get free parking, this would not apply to them but indeed be an extra perk if you held the Florida Residents Seasonal Pass, Weekly Select Pass or Epcot after 4 Pass.
  • Theme Park parking is complimentary to Tables in Wonderland members, for the sole purpose of dining at one of the participating Theme Park restaurants. Before 5:00pm, please pay for parking at the Auto Plaza. Visit Guest Relations on your way out of the Theme Park, and if it has been less than 3 hours, show your membership card, parking receipt, and dining receipt for parking reimbursement. After 5:00pm., members can show their membership card at the Auto Plaza to enter the parking lot. Theme Park admission is required for dining in all Theme Park restaurant locations. On Tables in Wonderland block-out dates, there will be a charge for parking and valet services.

- Some Annual Passholders did get free parking, I've had it for many years both with the regular AP and Premium AP.

Disneyland's Annual Passes are going to go to $1000 ithe ticket will be used anyday :
"Disney’s top-level annual passholders will have to shell out more than $1,000 if they want to visit Disneyland and Disney California Adventure anytime of the year."
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/disney-686033-pass-disneyland.html

New Disneyland annual pass prices
  • Premier: $1,439
    (Walt Disney World and Disneyland)
  • Signature Plus: $1,049
    (no blackout dates)
  • Signature: $849
    (excludes winter holiday)
  • Deluxe: $599
  • Southern California: $459
    (renewals only)
  • SoCal Select: $329
  • Parking: $18
  • Parking addition to passes: $199
    (renewals only)
  • Parking, Downtown Disney: $12 an hour
(2 hours free, 2 hours extra with validation)
The article also states:
"Disney on its website Sunday morning also overhauled prices for annual passes at Walt Disney World. The Disney Signature Platinum Plus pass for visits to all four Disney World theme parks and water parks with no blackout dates is $829."

I don't know exactly how the Signature Plus and Premiere differ.
ETA- The Premiere offers any day admission to both parks -DL and WDW.

She said there was no dates on the memo but being it's part of the fiscal year plan it could happen just like last night did. If you can afford it I would go ahead and get them. I wish I had an inkling about TiW, I would have bought mine, this one expires in 2 weeks .... I was going to wait until December for next one so it lasted longer ....

I think I'm just going to take the plunge and get them this weekend. Going to get some GCs at BJs to ease the blow.

People are grasping at straws to justify another hefty hike...

They will fail...unless fandom outweighs all reason.

I can't wait to see what goes on here when the daily rates/multi day are launched...it's gonna make yesterday look like Christmas.
Part of the strategy is undoubtedly gonna be to make these passes look like a great deal...

3 step process: nix no expiration to squeeze grapes there...raise APs independently...then go for the kill shot on a 10-35% increase on all limited commitment tickets.

Get your popcorn.
