Arby's employee refuses to serve uniformed police officer

It was bound to happen. Prometheus has been unleashed. People seem to think they have a divine right to hassle people they don't like and refuse service without consequences. Blacks. Gays. Women. You name it. Whatever someone can find. And lately, they've been raking in the cash for their activities. One of em was bound to do it to a cop sooner or later.

And now the police union with a call to boycott every Arby's nationally over the actions of two idiots? Aren't they the ones telling us not to judge all cops by the actions of a few bad apples?

I agree, especially with the bolded. People need to stop digging their heels in and making everything. Huge deal.
Those involved were wrong. Arby's apologized and disciplined those involved. There's no need for it to go further.

I worked at a McDonald's when I was in high school (in ancient times!). We used to love it when police officers came in to eat. There was a county hospital across the street and we used to get some, well, interesting clientele, especially late at night. Having officers in and out made us feel comfortable. They were always friendly, asked us how things were going, etc. I was very comfortable around them because my dad is a retired police officer. They're just people doing their jobs. We shouldn't form an opinion about all officer based on the behavior of a few. We also shouldn't form an opinion about all Arby's employees just because one behaved a certain way.

Those darn minimum wage employees making silent statements for an entire business organization! Why would Arby's allow them to be so powerful.

Oh, wait...

What did Arby's do?
Unless there has been an update, Arby's only suspended the the employees. Both of these poor excuses for employees deserve to be immediately fired. The corporate apology means nothing without a stronger follow up than what I have read.

There are lots of fast food places out there that would be a better choice than dealing with a company with any tolerance for this abhorrent behavior. That is my choice. You might make another choice.

How would the worker know it was a police officer in the drive thru line? I have to admit, I've never worked fast food - are there cameras inside the store where the employees can see the person in the drive thru line? I thought it was just audio.

Should everybody's personal records be public knowledge?

So the actions of a single franchise now speaks for the entire organization as a whole? I'm impressed if they have that kind of power.

I think a company should have every right to publicaly dismiss someone when it is directly related to not performing their job. I don't think getting fired is ever a private issue. If Arby's chooses to protect these people that is even more reason to not give them my business.

The law doesn't agree with your opinion on this one.

I am not a lawyer but are you saying that it is illegal for a company to say that they have fired someone? You hear about people being fired all of the time. Are all reports of people being fired illegal? That is just crazy.

Illegal criminally and opening yourself up to legal liability are not the same. No, it is not "criminally illegal" for them to disclose that info, but doing so could open them up to all kinds of potential liability. Most companies find it not worth the risk. You have to look beyond criminal law on this one and understand the civil laws that could apply.

Of course anyone can sue someone else for anything but that is a long way from your statement above that the law does not allow a company to publicaly dismiss someone. It is ridiculous to say that the law does not allow that. Companies may be afraid to say something about an employee but that is far from saying the law does not agree.

If Arby's tolerates either of these two people for a minute longer then it does speak volumes about what they tolerate and is an issue much broader than one location.

This is nothing new. When we order food for take out, we do it from one of our cells. We never tell them where it is going.

We would never tell them it is going to a PD. You might get some extra spice

Okay.

I thought I read in some article that the 19 year old working the drive thru was really busy and asked for help. When the manager stepped in to help they are the ones that told the cop that the employee didn't want to serve her because she was a cop. (As a joke, a bad joke but...) The 19 year old never said he didn't want to serve her. Again that's what I read in another article.

Eta. I see that in this article as well. I see no reason not to believe him.

Damn, I'd love a Beef and Cheddar right about now! But our Arbys closed. Bad location.

That's the same thing I've read and simply don't understand the outrage. I guess this is the choice of the week for outrage and we'll be on to something new next week.

They don't serve them big ole pancakes like that lady in Maine, right? I gotta keep all my internet based anger organized. I wouldn't know what to be angry about if the internet didn't tell me.
I know this is tongue in cheek, but sadly, you are right on the money with your observation.
