Did you send a letter to DCL regarding the new carry-on beverage policy?

OP here, Just wanted to jump in and say that I received a phone call today from a Disney Cruise Line representative. He said that Disney is listening to the comments and will take them into consideration for future changes. Please do speak up and let DCL know how you feel. Silence does not promote change.
I also received a call, unfortunately I was outside and didn't take the phone with me so I was left a message on my answering machine. Basically saying the same as your call that they do like to hear feedback from their guests and that they will share with executives for future enhancements.

The only things I remember putting in my letter was that while this policy doesn't affect me yet as it goes into effect after my next trip, I was not happy that those that had paid in full were unable to cancel without penalty. I also said that by doing this it has left a bad taste in my mouth and will make me think twice about doing a Disney vacation again in the future. I know I wrote more but I sent it using the Disney Cruise Line contact us link provided so I don't have a copy.

DCL has always retained the right to change ANYTHING it wants to about any cruise all the way up to the time of sailing. It's in the terms and agreements that *YOU* agreed to when you booked your cruise.

Not completely true. That would be an unconscionable contract, and technically unenforceable.

I sent an e-mail as well...I thought my closing statement was pretty cute (it doesn't take much to amuse me - LOL).

"Please Disney -- reconsider these new changes...we are loyal lifetime fans, but it is getting harder and harder to justify paying "champagne" prices and getting a "beer" experience (pun intended)! :)"

Bacially, I just wrote about how we are paying much higher premiums to cruise Disney and the "above and average" quality we've come to associate with Disney is fast becoming part of the "standard" level of crusing that one can experience for MUCH less money.

We are PIF for our cruise and couldn't get our $ back at this point, but it does irk me that they are doing it and without much warning.

Haven't gotten any response yet, but my e-mail was polite and didn't necessarily require a reply. More like me just sharing my thoughts...

Have a happy day everyone!

Just emailed mine. We don't currently have a trip booked but we are shopping. Priced NCL last night - four days left to choose one of 5 bonus offers, and one of those is free drinks!

Not a bit upset! if I want more than 2 bottles of booze I will buy it on board same as at a bar when onshore. I have seen the 'other' side of the alcohol on board issue and it isnt pretty. We were on one Disney cruise several years ago when the people in front of us to board ship were bringing two CASES of wine/champagne! Most cruise lines have a policy in the amounts of liquor that can be brought on board so I guess I can't get upset about Disney. FYI we have a friend (beer only drinker) was on a Carnival cruise and ran up a bar bill or over $1200!!!! How can u even enjoy a cruise with that??

Why ask us? If it's your friend and a true story....ask them? Then tell us if they enjoyed the cruise. That would be good information.

Nope. I didn't send a letter because I don't care. I never bring on beverages (soft or hard). I don't drink a lot of alcohol so I pay as I go. I rarely want a pre-dinner drink in my stateroom--I prefer to have a pre-dinner cocktail in a lounge with some conversation and music rather than in a tiny bathroom while curling my hair.

Sent my thank you emails in. :)

I am sorry but this just comes off petty and mean. Just because it wasn't a perk you took advantage of or enjoyed doesn't mean you have to be happy that others were adversely effected. I don't drink soda. In fact, I think it is vile and more of a health risk than alcohol since it has zero redeeming qualities. That said, if Disney decided to remove the free soda stations and started charging for the poisonous stuff, I wouldn't be happy and I sure as heck wouldn't go out of my way to thank them for making a buck off my fellow cruisers. This change isn't going to make a difference in the number of drunk people on the ships. If people want to get drunk, they still will. You apparently just like the idea of them doing it as publicly as possible.

I don't drink soda.

I do drink wine, but the bottom line is I don't choose a cruiseline based on how much liquor I bring on board - IF I do bring something onboard, I follow the rules and consume it only where I'm supposed to or pay the corkage fee. The bottom line is people WERE taking advantage of it and flaunting it and ultimately that was costing all of us.

The question wasn't "did you send your complaint letter". It was did you send a letter.

FWIW, I did offer the suggestion that they offer drink packages. So clearly I'm not anti-drinking. I just support their decision and right to change their rules as they see fit.

We all have a choice as to which line to cruise. At least for me, I take EVERYTHING into account. Not how much liquor I can bring aboard.

I still don't understand why you would send a thank you letter. Supporting their right to change their rules is very different from thanking them for it. Why on earth would you thank them for taking a perk away instead of enforcing the rules they already had in place? My town can change the cost of a speeding ticket. That is certainly their right but I am not going to write a letter thanking them for a change that ends up costing others more money.

It was my decision to send one. And it was my right to send one. (And to use your example, since the increased cost of speeding tickets would likely mean more people watching their speed and preventing accidents - with other cars, bikes, or pedestrians - yes, I would write a thank you to the city council or whoever made that decision.)

As I said, I ALSO suggested that they offer beverage packages as I have heard form more than one person that if packages were offered they would not feel the need to bring as much of their own stuff on.

I'm pretty sure I also said that I did think it should have been made effective after the last cruise(s) that were PIF at the date of announcement.

I still don't get those that think it's okay for a large company like Disney to change a policy and put it into effect after people have PIF and aren't allowing them to cancel without paying the penalty. I'm sure they would be the first one's in line freaking out if it was something they enjoyed that was now cut or changed.

Disney has the right to change what ever they please. When they do it and put the changes into effect after people have PIF they should allow people to cancel without paying the penalty. I think that is what most people are upset about and also the fact that they are allowing only certain types of alcohol that many don't drink. I think if they allowed a small bottle of hard alcohol as an option, many people would be fine with the change.
