Hi: Looking for opinions for dinner buffet at Golden Corral. Never eaten here and like to try new offsite restaurants each trip. Love Bahama Breeze which is right next store and always wonder about Golden Corral.

Golden Corral food is just down home country cooking. We live in their 'headquarters' city, so the food is actually pretty good quality and appetizing unlike what I've heard in other locations - never have tried them. They sure beat Cracker Barrel IMO - they've really gone downhill in the ones we've hit in our travels - we don't go there anymore.

Now, Bahama Breeze here has excellent an Calypso Shrimp dinner which is the only thing we have ever gotten there - nothing there in comparison to GC. Two complete opposites.

Not a Buffet but Cafe Tu Tu Tango is a fun place with Great Food and Service

It's not very good food, it's edible but I would not go out of my way for it.

Golden Coral is frozen food shipped in, heated up and then placed under heat lamps on a buffet table so that droves of people can pile their plates too no end. It is the shining example of quantity over quality. Golden Coral may perhaps be the only buffet that makes Chef Mickeys almost edible. :scared1:

I hate when we have to go to the Golden Corral. Unfortunately it seems to be the restaurant of choice for grandparents, so we go when grandma invites us.

I would never choose it on my own.

I'll agree with the PPs. Loved our meals at Bahama Breeze. GC, not so much. If you're talking about the restaurants near the Marriott complex on Vineland, there's also a BJs there. We enjoyed the food there very much.

Hi Everyone:
Thank you for the replies. Definitely off our list.
Kate: where is Cafe Tu Tu?
Minnie Mum: We wondered about BJS. Never heard of them, are they a chain and how is the food?

It sucks. Frozen, or popped out of a can and heated up.

I just don't get all of the Golden Corral haters out there. It's a buffet, not fine dining. I am a bona fide foodie and I don't mind eating at GC on occasion. The salad bar at GC is fabulous. It is huge with excellent selections and most of the fruits and veggies are fresh with the exception of bagged lettuce. The dinner rolls with honey butter can't be beat and is better than the stale bread and butter found in a lot of other more pricey restaurants. No, the hot food isn't the greatest; but, it's not terrible either. It's about on the same level as most of your other chain restaurants like Appleby's or TGI Fridays. It's a great place to take kids who are picky eaters for a quick meal that isn't fast food. Quality of buffets can vary greatly from location to location and even day to day in the same restaurant; but, generally speaking it us usually pretty good if you aren't expecting Victoria & Albert.

Sorry, but you are sooo wrong! It's not my 'go to' place to eat either, but most, not all, of their food is prepared on property. 1. I can 'see' it, 2. A very good friend is a lawyer working in the corporate headquarters here and we get first hand knowledge. Yes, some people 'do' pile their plates to no end (when they would do well to eat very lightly) - just like Disney, and lots of other places that I've observed people - can get disgusting.

By the way, lots of Disney food is frozen food shipped in also, heated up, and placed under heat lamps. Like I said, not a place we usually eat, but I will defend what I 'know' is not true about GC.

Actually, to above poster, they also get lettuce in fresh!

We have them here in Phoenix- It's a buffet. Not a $60 per person Buffet, but a buffet for normal families. If you want fancy, don't go to GC. But if you want off Disney property and want to go to a buffet that's not to bad, probably the same you'd get in your own hometown. Go for it!

They are a chain. The one by our hotel was the first one we ever tried. They are also a brewery, with an excellent variety of beers and ales. DH liked it so much the first ti!me that he insisted on going back the next night. Although part of that may have been to try a few different ales. They have their own website if you want to check out their menu. Oh, and their signature dessert cookie is SO decadent. But only if you are able to share it- WAY too rich for one person to handle ( I tried, really hard).
