Disney's BOARDWALK INN Information & Questions

Hello! I am hoping to find some help....Looking to leave Epcot to head over to boardwalk for shopping, then Illuminations cruise (takes off from dock at Yacht Club) in December...
1.) Is the best way to get from Epcot to the boardwalk to walk? If so, about how long does it take to walk?
2.) Can we walk from the boardwalk to Yacht club? About how long does that take?
3.) Are Epcot/boardwalk/Yacht Club all within walking distance, or is it quite a hike?
Thanks for your help!!

They are all definitely within walking distance. You just head out the back gate of Epcot and you are pretty much at the Beach Club, which is connected to the Yacht Club. Continue around on the circle and you are at the Boardwalk, then just a short distance later and you are back at Epcot. Maybe a fifteen minute circle? Others will know the exact time, but you will have so much to look at that it will seem like a very quick trip. Enjoy the view and your evening:)

Awesome...thanks so much for your help! We have been to Disney about 7 times, but have never been to this area, so we're not sure what to expect, but are looking forward to checking out some new areas :-).

Where do I check in for the Villas? Lobby of the Inns or do the Villas have their own desk?

Time is in the eye, or perhaps the foot of the walker. As Kenly replied, they are within a short walking distance. Once you exit the IG, you can take a boat from there to Epcot. But, you might be able to race walk the boat back on foot and see if you get there first. It really is an easy walk. You can also boat across crescent lake from Boardwalk to BC or YC.

Thanks! How frequently do the boats go across the lake? Sounds like a very manageable walk. I am just wondering how exhausted we will be by that time of the evening...or how much my 9 yr old DD will be draggin' behind ;-).

They have the same 20 min window of arrival as buses, so by the time it arrives, you board and it potentially makes other stops, you could be in your room getting ready for bed if you walked. I was dead tired one day and planned to boat from BW back to my room at YC but after standing in the sun for ten mins and not a boat in signt, I walked after all. I never saw a boat of any sort approach either dock.

You don't have to walk passed BC and YC to get to BW from Epcot. After exiting, the path will fork and you can go straight leading to BC or you can go left and go to BW.

I agree with this logic! With every Disney destination that offers more than one mode of transportation, I always eye up my preferred mode of transport to see if something is just coming or just going. If there's no boat in eye shot, just hoof it! I'm not the most patient person in the world. Unless I'm completely exhausted, I'll usually walk it - perhaps a little slower than normal, but I'll still do it!

Just changed my daugther and I's December stay from Yacht club to Boardwalk Inn and am pretty psyched. Have never stayed at BWI so any tips would be appreciated.

I was thinking of changing to the Swan to sabe some $$ but then Orbitz released a non capped 15% discount and it brought BWI down to almost the same as the Swan (when you factor in that the Swan would mean getting cab to and from airport).

Booked a standard view room so any tips on what location I may want to request for room would also be appreciated.

Thanks

I am thinking of switching from YC to BWI for our end of April '16 trip. We love the YC, but with the room refurb...lack of starting it...I am not sure I want to stay there. I've thought about BC but I want a full balcony, does the BWI have full Balconies? There is 7 of us, 4 Adults and 3 kids(12, 10, 6), my parents are coming with us. I am also a little nervous of the Clown pool, we love Stromalong Bay, but the Luna Park slide looks fun!

Any advise or suggestions would be great!
TIA

We just left the Boardwalk and it was great! Room was ready before our plane landed! When we arrived the room smelled really bad (like mildew) but they transferred us to a new room within minutes! We had such a wonderful time!

We LOVED the Illuminations cruise. Plan plenty of time to walk around the EPCOT areas before your cruise. I hope you guys have a great time!

Glad to hear from someone who has done it! When did you do it? This is our first time. Tell me about it...Does it go out into the lagoon where they do the fireworks or are you in a separate lagoon? Can you see things well (including the countries), or do you see it from a distance (like seeing MK fireworks from Poly beach)? Are the snacks on board included in the cost? About how long is the cruise? You catch it from the dock at Yacht Club, right?
My husband is not fond of crowds...and, um, we're going to Disney December 17-23..ha! So, I am doing everything possible to avoid the crowds. I thought the cruise would be a perfect way to enjoy Illuminations without having to stake out a spot and get squashed....AND worry about my husband getting agitated and spoiling my fun..ha!...So, it's worth the expense to me :-)! We'll also avoid the mass exit of ppl after Illuminations...plan to get taxi from Yacht Club back to POR.
We will have the whole day at Epcot (except a couple mid afternoon hours to rest up at resort)....will start with 8:05 CP breakfast ressie at Garden Grill (again...to avoid crowds at park opening and to avoid having to panic to get into CP..will arrive early still but will at least have passes), early dinner (2:45...actually lunch) at Tutto Italia, CP at 5:00, then walk around BW, see BC carousel, then head over to Yacht Club for 9:30 time to catch cruise (Ill at 10:30 that nt). Have you ever been to the BW?

1-We went Fall 2013 to celebrate my DD 16th's birthday. Just DD, DH and me and our fantastic captain.
2-We checked in and paid for the cruise at the YC marina about 30min prior to our cruise.
3-We started out by touring the lake and going down to DS. Our captain was very knowledgeable and gave us great tips and facts. A little more cruising around the lake and then headed to EPCOT.
4-We parked the pontoon connected to the other pontoons under the bridge, between France and United Kingdom. The fireworks are so close and it's an amazing view!
5-Water, pop and snack size chip bags were provided. You can call YC private dining and have food, deserts and other adult drinks. We had some fancy, fondant Halloween decorated cupcakes delivered for her birthday. They were fantastic, really well done and huge. We did not have any other drinks delivered as once you are on the boat, you are on the boat until it's over.
6-Once Illuminations was done, we cruised around the lake a little bit more and then headed back to YC marina. Total time spent was about 2hours. Pricey tour, but well worth every penny.
7-My DH does not like crowds either, so this was perfect.
8-We also took a cab from the Poly as I would much rather take a cab, then deal with WDW transportation between resorts.
9-I believe they will give you blankets, if it is cold, especially in Dec. I would call to verify this.
10-This is our first year at BWI, but we have stayed at YC x2 and love staying in the EPCOT area. So much fun to walk around, enjoy the nightlife at BW and get an adult drink-or two :)

Thanks so much for all the helpful and informative info!! We will have about 2 hours to walk around the BW. Is that enough time to walk in/out of a few shops?

Here's our plan....Let me know if you think I am cutting it too close or squashing too much in...
At about 5:45 (after 5:00 CP show), leave Epcot by walking through International Gateway and go to BW. Enjoy shopping time at BW (we'll have our kids and we're not big drinkers...DH diabetic...so we'll pass on what many others might find fun ;-), then head over to BC to see their carousel that I understand is not to be missed, then go to Yacht Club...if time, see tree and train in Yacht Club, if not head to dock to catch Illuminations Cruise at 9:30 (for Illuminations at 10:30).
How does that time frame sound to you....too much time allotted, not enough, or doable?
Thanks so much...I really appreciate the help!

Most rooms in the BW have full balconies. None have Juliet balconies like in the BC. There are a few rooms that have a small one chair balcony because of room angles, and there are literally one or two rooms with no balconies at all, but if I got one of those rooms, I would ask to switch immediately! We don't have kids, but from what other people have said, the slide at the clown pool is much more fun, and it's a lot easier to keep an eye on the kids than at Stormalong Bay. Enjoy! :)
