If the rumors of expansion are true - this all makes sense. One Man's Dream, Little Mermaid, and Art of Animation are all right next to eachother, along with the Jack Sparrow Pirate thing that closed last year. I've circled all of these in RED on the map below. Just to the North of this is actually where Rock and Roller Coaster is and that whole food court / outdoor restaurant area. Then you have TSMM sort of in the way, but behind to the side of that is the old remnants of the Back-lot tour. (Circled in Orange.)

Meanwhile, there hasn't really been anything said about the area around LMA/Streets of America/Muppetvision/Mama Melrose (Green), which could also go as part of a Star Wars land (they would want to incorporate Star Tours into this as well.. So it's really starting to look like a phased approach. There were some rumors that pathways coming down behind RnRC were going to be coming, and that some backstage areas would be turning into on-stage areas and vice-versa. Seems to me that whatever is going in on the West side of the park will be coming in first. That whole section of the park can be under construction while leaving everything else that is still open open.(Though the Disney Junior show might be closed as well, they definitely could leave that in place.)

I know it's easy to complain about them closing stuff, but think about it as "for the greater good". I think this is so exciting. It's been 17 years since we had a new theme park in Florida, and if the rumors are true (and certainly the closures have indicated they are probably true) we are going to essentially get a 60-70% NEW theme park, which will keep the best stuff (RnRC,ToT, GMR, TSMM, Fantasmic, Star Tours) and completely redo everything else. It could easily go from (IMO) the WORST of the 4 theme parks to possibly #1 or #2 - Again if the near $3 billion rumored spending is true.

It's an exciting time to be a Disney fan. Don't sweat One Man's Dream. Their not going to throw that stuff out.

Which of these buildings is the 3rd track going in at TSMM?

Thanks. I assumed that's what it had to be. But both buildings looked about the same size so I thought maybe those were tracks 1 and 2.

Tracks 1 and 2 interlace - so they are in the same space. Besides, just because the rumor says "third toy story track" that means nothing. It could easily be a third AND forth Toy Story track. The only "official" word off the Disney Parks Blog is:

Well, I’m excited to share that we are expanding both attractions by adding another theater at Soarin’ and more midway track at Toy Story Mania! We’ll also be updating the screens and projection system at Soarin,’ bringing a visually enhanced experience.

So - "another theater" implies 3 total. However, "more midway track" implies nothing. It COULD mean they are making the ride longer (unlikely) or it could mean they are adding ONE more track, but could also be TWO. In fact, two tracks is the more likely scenario, since they could simply duplicate the existing design and queue area.

According to permits it's only one track

But what is "one track". The main ride is essentially one single track, the cars split at the queue for loading purposes, then merge onto a single track. They then go in different directions onto two different pathways, but then merge again for the last set of screens. Is that one or two tracks?

It might just be one single track - 50% increase - but it also could be a 100% increase. Not impossible from the space available.

That is interesting. Do you have a link to a track layout, or are you just very observant and figured that out by riding it so many times?

It will be one additional to the current two. Everything that has been said and that I have found is only the 50% increase.

I was just observing, I'd never seen the actual track layout @rteetz posted, but generally I have pretty good spatial recognition skills, even at Disney where they intentionally try to mess with your spatial recognition. Also I'm an engineer, so I tend to be curious about how things work so while on the rides, I usually pay attention to mechanism of how they work.

Then you are probably right. I'll be the first to admit I was the guy that never thought they'd add a track. All I know is I haven't seen concrete plans or anything official saying they were adding 50% capacity. So, while I have gone along with the standard belief that that is what it is, I also didn't want to assume it was the ONLY option. (You can also see from your track layout where the argument could be made that "one additional track" would be a copy-cat of the existing track - correct?)

It is scheduled for a refurb on the 9th.

Well that doesn't make a lot of sense if the rumor is true that it will close in September. Why bother closing for 4 days of work just to reopen for a few weeks. Of course, this could change between now and then, but it does seem strange that they wouldn't cancel it if they were going to close it.

I think the refurb was probably scheduled before they decided on a closure date.

The idea of adjusting Hollywood prices is pretty absurd. I have to imagine that the percentage of single day tickets that are sold for DHS approaches zero. The vast majority of people walking through those gates have some sort of multi day package, and a huge chunk of those have access to park hopping.

I personally also wouldn't want a closure. As I park hop, losing access to the attractions that I love there during an extended construction period would diminish my trips.

We still don't know the path that the update will take. Plenty has been closed already, but for all we know they may have a 1:1 open/close rate going forward. They are also likely to have temporary attractions (like the Frozen stuff) to fill in the experience.
