2014-15 Boston Bruins Thread & NHL Playoffs (minus the Bruins)

Back to the draft. That was very disappointing. I get they don't want to over value players. But since they keep doing it anyway wouldn't it have made more sense to pay Hamilton rather than McQuaid and dump salary by trading people like Kelly, Smith etc.
Right now I see a potential disaster of a season shaping up. We have no reliable D. I mean, Chara and Seidenberg, who are on the final stretch, McQuaid and Krug and then ... who? :sad2:

Been shaking my head all weekend. And wishing I paid more attention in my math classes cuz I'm still trying to figure out how all this added up. Hated seeing Looch go and would've loved to see what he could do with a stable line in a contract yr. But the return seemed fair. Everyone keeps condemning the Dougie deal. But what you have to remember, the Bruins traded nothing and got a mid-1st round pick. They traded negotiation rights and potential return from an offer sheet. Then the Bruins had every mid-1st round pick. Most media outlets are saying the 2nd & 3rd picks were reaches. I'm not gonna pretend to know 1 way or the other. But I trust in the same regime that took Pastrnak last yr. And speaking of the media... I am not buying ANY of the Red Sox-esque ex-player slamming, that is following Dougie right now.

Well, the B's are now $12M+ under the cap, with a majority of the roster under contract. And the way they are being perceived, now, next yr's 1st rd pick could potentially be a lottery pick. Could that be appealing enough to get Seabrook who is going into his UFA yr? And there are a few other teams that are a few bucks under the cap, but have multiple players unsigned.

and Boston has now acquired Zac Rinaldo from Flyers in exchange for a third round draft pick in 2017.

Anyone else getting whiplash from the moves the Bruins are making?

And it looks like buyouts are in season across the league again

Just wondering...

Is it a coincidence that free agency begins on Canada Day? Do you guys get the day off, making the roads easier to travel for signees trying to get to the airport to get to their new teams?

Ohhhh... And Happy Canada Day. On a side note, my old man went to St. FX in NS and was there when Canada became its own sovereignty. He said the parties were amazing.

Thanks:). Of course we get the day off, just like the 4th:flower1:

AGREED.. That is a biggie.. Happy for him.. I can't imagine him getting out of there fast enough..

It's been fun to watch though today and see who is remaining on the agency of the "big" players.

I am really Really REALLY hoping the Krejci for Yandle rumors pan out.

You'll never give up on that will you. You can't get rid of the whole core.

Beleskey and Hayes in, Smith out. Sweeney has had some redemption today.

Nope. I'll never let go of that bone. It is the same problem I've always had with Rondo and JD Drew as well. Just staying monotone throughout day to day games. But looks like it will never come to pass.

As it stands right now (barring the 9 or 10 moves that Trader Donnie will make today and sign Hayes & Connolly), I think the lines will be like this:

Eriksson/Krejci/Connolly
Marchand/Bergeron/Hayes
Beleskey/Spooner/Pastrnak
Talbot/Kelly/Rinaldo

Now, some might think "You can't put the new $3.8m wing on the 3rd line." My answer to that is, on the Bruins, the number associated with your line has very little to do with your TOI (except 4th). Plus, with Beleskey's size and scoring touch, he could be a nice balance with the 2 young guns.

The D pairings are tougher to figure out. You know who the lead for each pair would be, but you don't know who their opposite will be.

Chara/ ?
Seidenberg/ ?
McQuaid/ ?

? = Krug, Miller, Trotman, Morrow and outside shot Arnesson.

In net, you got:

Tuukka, with Smith penciled in to back him up. But expect spot starts for Subban and McIntyre

And in all seriousness, I'd love for Trader Donnie to put a package of picks and prospects to get Seabrook (who is going into the last yr of his deal).

Can't wait to see what Twitter offers today. I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th.

PS: Best wishes to Marc Savard. I know the move was more or less fictional and done financial purposes. But I'll never forget how the signing of him and Chara helped re-invigorate the fan base around here.

Thank you and best wishes.

Have a happy and safe 4th to you as well!

I'm looking forward to sitting back and just watching the rest of free agency, Preds are pretty much done in the frenzy after yesterday. Now just need our RFA's signed and I'll be good.

Another devastating loss for me...Sharpie is/was my favorite Blackhawk. To rub salt in the wound, they traded him to one of my most hated teams - Dallas. Barf.
