GASTON DIED! :(

1) This is beyond stupid.

2) It is extremely tragic, even if it is beyond stupid.

3) This is why people need basic education about how firearms and propellants work (safety courses). The fact fireworks are, for the most part, weapons, needs to be addressed. (and no, banning is not the solution)

Most of us have probably done a stupid thing or two during the course of our lives and have lived to tell about it and learned from it. Unfortunately in this case he didn't get that second chance.

Any loss of life is tragic regardless of the circumstances. From his short work history this seemed to be a person with a genuine care and concern for others. Perhaps we can now reciprocate.

I have amazingly lived to be 46, and am considered to be pretty intelligent. I have done MANY things in my life that could just have easily ended up in me not making it to 46. Thankfully, I got lucky, and made it this far.

What a shame for such a young man to lose his life! Does it REALLY matter whether his death was the result of a freakish accident, or just plain stupidity? The man is dead, there should be sympathy and compassion for his family, and loved ones.

His face is quite distinctive. I am nearly 100% certain that we saw him, and have pictures of him from one of our previous trips.

What horrible news. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding his death, that's family and friends who have lost a loved one, and as someone who lost a young friend in a very freak accident a couple of years ago, I know how awful that can be. Thoughts and prayers are with them.

I agree, and am also lucky to have survived some of the stupid things that I have done in my youth. That said, if one of those things had killed me, I would have deserved the type of off-hand comments that we see represented here and across the social media sphere today. No one means to denigrate this man, but his act was absurdly irresponsible and the outcome was fixed once he lit the fuse. So fixed that it comes off more as a suicide than a stupid act. How could he, even drunk, not know that it would kill him?

People will blame alcohol, and others will blame the sale of fireworks. I blame only him.

Amen. I look back on some of the things I did and I thank God I am still here.

Something we've told our teenagers, many many times, is, "Don't be the instructive example." My brother lost a friend proving why boating and alcohol don't mix, and had to be rescued while demonstrating that rock climbing and alcohol don't mix.

So we tell our kids, stop, think, learn from other people's mistakes, and don't bring shame, embarrassment and grief on our family.

Knock on wood, so far so good.

I am a veteran of being young and foolish. I can honestly say that before i turned 30 I never thought i could die (this is obvious from old photos and stories). I believe that I made it this far due to luck, friends, and a higher being having a plan for me. I hold no ill will for this young man only sadness. Bless Devon and his family. Then of course there's always the "glass houses" comment that shouldn't need to stated.

I have a daughter in her early 20s and I am constantly trying to instill into her that goofy things that you don't take serious can have very serious consequences, and this is one of those sorts of things. I wish peace for his family during this difficult time.

What a moron.

He isn't the famous Gaston in all the popular YouTube videos, and 99% sure that isn't him in the video in the article. I saw that Gaston not too long ago in the park.

I don't care how drunk you get, idk when the thought of putting a mortar on your head to shoot it is a good thought. No freak accident.

And his brother said it was a freak accident because he was holding a lighter that made it go off. It's not that easy to light a mortor. He was holding the lighter on the fuse and then held it for a good 5 seconds or so until it went off.
I'm betting that whoever posted the articles just Googled "Gaston at Disney" and posted whatever picture they found. Seeing that everyone Disney casts as Gaston looks very similar someone it's easy to see how they didn't bother to determine if it was the same fellow or not.

Wow some of the comments are on the harsh side. I hope none of you ever have a loved one that does something irresponsible and looses their life.My prayers go to his family.

I agree! Very insensitive! I guess none of them have ever done or had a loved one do anything stupid in their lives. Its about as irresponsible as getting behind the wheel after drinking or texting while driving and many people do those things all the time.

No, it is more like getting behind the wheel of a car and purposely driving into a bridge embankment at 100 MPH. There is a huge difference between actions that might hurt you or someone else and actions that WILL hurt you or someone else.

If he was a CM, as it appears he was, it is quite possible that he could have family or friends here that are members of the DIS. IMO, that should.be kept.in mind here. They have suffered a terrible loss, regardless of why/how.

It's still irresponsible either way. I guess maybe you have never lost anyone to a drunk driver.
