Just back from first stay at Poly

We just returned from 7 nights in Standard view studio 3rd floor moorea.

Our room wasn't clean when we checked in. There was hair and nail cuttings all over the floor of the 2nd bathroom and the living area had not been vacuumed as there was items like hair clips, dried cereal and wrappers on the carpet. I mentioned this to the front desk on the way out that evening and they didn't seem that bothered about it and just said that they would let their friends at housekeeping know.

On Wednesday Moorea and I believe the other DVC building lost power at around 10am - It was restored just after 5pm and the only contact from resort staff was a knock on the door to say that it should be restored by 1245pm. We had a dinner reservation at 6pm over at Magic Kingdom so at around 3.30pm I headed over to the front desk to ask when this was going to be restored and was told that it should be up and running very soon. It was very hot last week and with no power or air con it was impossible to get showered and iron clothes, in the end we used the torch on our phone to get ready as best as we could and headed out to enjoy dinner and some time in Magic Kingdom.

The front desk did agree that they could understand our frustrations and would be back in touch the next day to try and put it right, we never did hear anything back from them.

We were actually planning on adding on some Poly points while we were there but decided against it, we headed over to Saratoga on the Thursday to speak to our guide about another add on at VGF (we added on there last year but only half of what we needed as we thought we would split the additional points between VGF and PVB) but he said that it was completely sold out at the moment and they were not allowed to add anyone else to the waitlist.

Overall I do like the PVB studio and I hope the above issues are down to early day problems but for the moment its enough to put me off buying in there.

Sorry to read about your issues, seems like things with DVC are getting worse not better. :-(

I will email them today. Must admit its the first time we have had any major issues like this with any DVC stay. I was surprised by the lack of response from the front desk, both people I spoke to seemed to be keen to differentiate between the village and the villas and bungalows.

Is this new? I can't imagine DVD not allowing that. I can imagine a guide telling a potential new DVC buyer that to get them to buy Poly. We just added on in March for a sold out UY with several people on the waiting list. I'd call the guide and ask again. If they still say no, I'd tell them you're going to start looking for a resale contract :)

He said that there was a small waitlist at the moment and that it had been a couple of weeks since they were able to match anyone upto points and they had very recently been advised that the waitlist was now closed. He mentioned that they were keen to avoid a situation similar to the Grand Californian where they apparently ended up with a waitlist of thousands with little points coming back via ROFR or foreclosure.

I've been making my DH call every couple of weeks to check the status of our waitlist request for VGF and when he called two weeks ago, he was told they were getting ready to close the waitlist sometime soon, so I'm not surprised to hear this. I've been seeing posts that people were passing ROFR on VGF and was getting discouraged that we weren't getting anywhere with our waitlist (yes, I know we could go re-sale, but DH doesn't want to, so I'm at his mercy since he's buying the points for me as an anniversary present). So I asked him to call and tell them that we are leaning toward going the re-sale route... well, I don't think they really cared, they just said "well, if you get off of the waitlist, you won't be able to get back on because we are getting ready to close it."

They don't close wait lists. You can get on a wait list for OKW. That was a sales tactic.

It's your present! Ask for cash and start shopping for resale. :thumbsup2 We did a small add on. I priced it out to be only a few hundred dollar difference. While I was on the waitlist, I had started watching the resale market. If a resale had popped up faster, I would have gone that route.

I wish he would give me the cash :) But he's made up his mind that he wants to buy direct and as they say, I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. I bought our first contract at BCV re-sale and there's nothing wrong with going that route, but for the little bit of money we would be saving, he wants to have the option of using the points for DCL, etc. His money, his gift = he gets to do it his way. But I'm getting impatient!!!!!

Disney seems to really want to sell the new active resorts and not the closed resorts, not even VGF. It might be a commission issue, tax issue, internal sales index issue, bonus issue. There may be a policy that new to be built resorts aren't funded until the a certain sales number has been made on the existing resort.

Who knows, just wait and buy resale.

Guide was happy to put me on a waitlist for any of the other sold out resorts BCV BW BLT etc or sell me points there and then for some of the other resorts but the VGF list is closed.

Re the AC shutting off at night due to no movement in room - I've seen recommendations in the past to buy a balloon in the parks and put it in the bedroom at night. (The weight tied to the string will keep it on the ground or on the table so it doesn't get tangled in the fan.) It will sway and provide enough movement to keep the thermostat from turning off the AC.

We spent one night this past Sunday in a second floor studio in Pago Pago. Up until now, DH and I haven't found any other DVC resorts we like as much as BWV and BCV (although we haven't stayed at VGF yet), but we were both pleasantly surprised and absolutely loved the Poly. We didn't have any issues with noise, but our room was facing Moorea and we aren't light sleepers so that might not be a good gauge. The parking lot right in front of Pago Pago was very convenient with lots of open spaces, and the walk to the TTC for the monorail was fantastic. Having separate bathroom mirror/counter space for each of us was a huge deal, and since DH loves to sit in the tub forever I was thrilled with the separate shower. The balcony was very big with comfortable chairs too. The only thing DH complained about was the lack of a ceiling fan. He likes the room super cold so the 68 degree limit bothered him a bit. He didn't complain about getting too warm though, just the lack of moving air. I on the other hand, am always freezing so I loved it!! We are already talking about trying to book another night or two.

I am so excited about our Poly standard studio stay in November but these type of reviews are becoming so common I'm beginning to second guess myself!! Are ALL the DVC studios having drainage issues? Which longhouse do you suggest? Also do all DVC studios at Poly have either a balcony or patio? that will be very important for us!

There are some reports of people contacting DVC member satisfaction about the power outage and receiving their points back for the night.

Please make sure to let DVC member satisfaction know about the problems you experienced.

For those staying at PVB, if you think the room is dark, make sure to check the switches by the head of the bed.

The dimmer slide is very small. Very easy for most people to easily miss.
