BOULDER RIDGE VILLAS & COPPER CREEK VILLAS & CABINS: Wilderness Lodge DVC Expansion Thread

I may be in the minority, but this may bring my DH back to a DVC owner. I love the idea of this. We switched from Poly GV CL this year and last year because of the construction. Where I have little interest in staying in a Poly bungalow (due to the price), our family of seven would fit nicely in one of these cabins :) I look forward to seeing the end result. Thanks for all the info Kook and Mike

I would think WL cabins being 1500-1850 sq ft they will cost as much if not more to book.

If they're really that big, it's not hard to imagine that they might not be dedicated one family units. Maybe lockoff units? It seems that they could fit two studios and a 1 bedroom (to combine into a 2 bedroom + studio per cabin) or even a studio and two 1 bedrooms (to combine into a 2 bedroom + 1 bedroom) in each structure with that square footage.

I bought VWL specifically because of its intimate, serene nature. I am afraid. Very, very afraid.

I have heard that they are going to circle back to all the deluxe resorts to add more DVC. I guess DVC is where the money is..... At least they are cabins. When I first saw the plans, I thought they were going to add 2 huge buildings. Without most of the trees, it's not going to feel like a "lodge"...

DH would be willing to spend the $ for WL over Poly truthfully, plus the idea would be to buy points :)

I thought of your DH who loves WL and those roomy villas. This might just be perfect for everyone! But, they may be close to Poly Bungalow prices seeing that they're even larger:confused3
I need to buy some DVC points STAT ;)

Are we sure they are knocking out all the trees? Since they are cabins, is it still possible that they will keep most of the trees and the cabins will be nestled in them?

Who knows? There is no landscaping plan available. The plan describing boring holes in the ground does show an alarming lack of trees near the cabins. However, since that isn't the intent of the diagram, I'm not too concerned at this point.

How many of you are changing resorts? From the map it looks very intrusive to me. We went through this last year with the pool. I priced the GF but it's really not in our budget. Would love to stay but I don't want if see trucks going by, hear construction, etc

I'm not DVC, but WL was the next resort on my list to try. I'll be staying away until this is 100% done. Even after, I'm not sure I'll be interested anymore in it. It depends on how overbuilt it looks.

We stayed there last October with the pool construction and had a great time. The construction was in full swing and we had a courtyard view, but most of the work happened when we were at the parks, so it didn't bother us.

We would still stay there if this new construction was going on, although it would have to be in a courtyard view room. I think the woods view rooms on the north side will hear a lot of noise. And the villas facing the lake would also experience a lot of noise. The main lodge and inner courtyard would most likely be unaffected. I would think that the construction vehicles would come in from two directions - the employee entrance on the north side (MK side) and the access road located between the villas and Fort Wilderness.

Okay I can't figure how to quote a small portion of a large post so please forgive me on that. We are booked for late October this year. Am I hearing a recommendation that we ditch this again at this point? Once the pool stuff was obviously happening, we did ditch WL last year based on information from here and I was very grateful. My family was really hoping to return to WL this year as it was our resort of choice. Any idea when we will know what's the best plan? We live with highway construction near our home as well as construction of a senior center across the street. So I am not particularly interested in dropping WDW $ for more of that. TIA!

Too bad they didn't just use the River Country land for this project instead of messing with the Lodge property.
Don't think they won't consider adding a new resort or another addition at that location.

I think this looks great. Clearly they will need to add more parking to this plan.

Highlight the section that you want to quote. A little text bubble will appear under it, giving you an option to +quote, or reply. If you want to quote additional passages, then hit +quote. If that is the only part you want to respond to, then hit reply. If you quote multiple sections, then you will have to insert your quotes when you want to reply. Once you get the hang of it then it is really a neat feature. :)

I don't think there is an answer for you yet. As you probably remember from last year, once the pool construction was announced, people who had booked reservations before the announcement were able to get their bookings switched to other resorts without losing any discount that they had. That may or may not help when trying to decide if you want to switch based on unconfirmed information. :confused3

We have switched to AKL. We had 15 nights booked next summer. I was looking forward to WL and for me it won't be the same with construction going on. We had a woods view booked so I think it would have impacted on us. I'd still like to stay at WL some time in the future.

We have a reservation for WL for the last week of August. Are we still going to be safe going that time?

This is so upsetting. Last year, I had to switch my Poly reservation to the Contemporary due to construction and this year, I chose WL over the Poly because the Poly is still under construction. I would hate to have to move us again.

I saw it says construction was expected to start sometime in September. Was this written someplace in particular I could take a look at?

You're right and your explanation was perfect for a Luddite like me.

Rats, I do see other available resorts so Ill keep an eye out. WDW chat CM said they have nothing on this - figured I'd ask as long as I was searching alternatives. I did switch us to AKL last year and loved it. The family really wants WL this time though.
We have switched to AKL.
You'll love the place. Be aware that you have to go outside for the quick service, though it has a covered walkway. The buses were great when we were there - only crowded at park close for AK and they got that under control pretty quickly.

I am having enough trouble with flight $ issues - REALLY was hoping not to have resort issues too.

I am personally extremely annoyed by this, we have just booked for September 2016 and will now more than likely be looking for another resort instead, I don't understand how they can now call this Wilderness Lodge, when they are going to be cutting down 80% of the wilderness?
