Wine and Dine 2015

All you lucky Saturday ducks! I gotta wait until Tuesday morning. #SadFace

I'm really just shooting for early early reservation at BoG for the party day. I think I'm going to figure out Race Day after Food & Wine events are announced, because I'd REALLY like to get up and do the Parisian Brunch at EPCOT before we relax for the day. Because I'm a sucker for brunch ...

1. unless something's changed, there should be a spot to check for "other" if your race distance is not one of those rD lists. I would just state the race distance in the race name in the first box.

2. Have you tried searching through Active?
I didn't see an other option. And according to the email I received back, quarter marathons are not accepted. Doesn't make sense to me. So there's more bad news. I'm going to have to try to find a different event. I haven't checked Active yet, so I'll look there.

Brunch is my favorite! You get breakfast, lunch, and booze..win, win, win!!

Has anyone on here ever done the Roller Coaster Race 10K? They have them in about 5 different cities across the US and there is one on October 17th about 1/2 hour from me. It sounds so cool! You can do a dual sign up for the 10K and the the Roller Coaster Ride 5K and ride the distance of a 5K in roller coaster height. You get a medal for each and a tech shirt for each. I'm going to sign up as soon as they open registration. It can be a training run for W&D. :)

Does anyone here attempt to run negative splits? I'm doing my qualifying 10k in a couple weeks, and I'm trying to experiment with negative splits to see if I can get a PR and have more in the tank at the end of the race. Yesterday I was able to accomplish negative splits on about a 4.3 mile run. I had splits of: 7:40, 7:50, 7:34, 7:27 but my average was way too high to get anywhere near my needed 10k pace of 7:27. I think I started way too slow and then just didn't pick up the pace fast enough. My normal 5 mile route where I don't use negative splits I tend to start out at around 7:10ish and then probably finish in the 7:40's.

Where do my splits need to be in relation to my needed pace if I'm trying to go negative?

If you're after a net pace for the race of 7:27, you'll need to start out about 7:40 and drop about 5 sec/mile for each mile after that. Another option would be to start at 7:25, which should feel easy for the first 3-4 miles, and then just tough it out for the last mile or two.

Never tried that before - will try it on my next practice 10k. The 10k, for me, is the toughest race to pace for. Go all out (think 5k pace) and you burn out, but start too slowly and you can really blow your time.

I go into a 10K with a 1/2 marathon mindset, slow and steady 5k, then force recognition of the shorter distance makes my second 5k much faster.

We are hoping to do this as well. Along with the tequila lunch.

I really don't know what to do about finding an event to use for proof of time. I really had my heart set on the one I mentioned, because it's really convenient and I know it's a certified course. I'm really struggling to find other 10K or longer events (other than half marathons, which I'm not really ready to do yet) in my area that I feel will work for proof of time. I'm also really bummed because there is a 10K event that I really want to do in general that's also certified, but it's not until after the deadline for submission. :( So a question, is being in the last corral really that bad? Because I'm tempted to just run this race, submit it to see what happens, but suck up being in the last corral if it doesn't get accepted. I just don't understand why quarter marathons aren't accepted. If I run it and get a time, isn't that adequate proof that I could finish a half marathon under the maximum time?

I would probably do what you are suggesting... do the race anyway and if it's not accepted, it's not accepted.

I was in the same boat for Tinker Bell as you are. I could only find 2 10K's within an hour drive to do before the deadline, and I wasn't ready yet for either.

Have you visited a local running store? The ones around me always have a ton of flyers and such advertising local events. Talking to the clerks might be of assistance too.

A 10K is 6.2m. A quarter marathon is 6.55m, so the distance difference isn't THAT much.

My "10K" last weekend ended up being measured at 6.75 miles, but RunDisney said they would still accept the time.

By all thinking, your time difference is only going to be 2-3 minutes different if you were running a 10K or this quarter. I would run it, submit it as a 10K and see how everything pans out. Any time is better than no time, even if it's for a marginally longer distance.

I think this seems like your best bet as well. Hopefully when RunDisney checks the time, they can see that you went further than the 10K and treat it the same. I'm not fully convinced they actually check all of these links anyway. That would take a tremendous amount of time and effort, but they may really do it, who knows for sure? As Keels said, it can't hurt to submit it versus submitting nothing.

I'd try it. Worst case scenario, you get a good race experience before the half! And back corral isn't a death sentence. It will just be more crowded. Getting to the corral early and being at the front will help.

Did you check http://runningintheusa.com/Race/Default.aspx for a race? This list is by no means completely comprehensive, but it's pretty close.

Has there been anything from Disney about merch that will be at the expo? I can't find anything and it seems like there's been pictures and such well before the other races. :(

Nevermind...intended to post this in the Tink thread.
