We'll Be Doing Whatever Snow Does in Summer- Trip Report

All caught up

bummer you missed opening show, but it did look incredibly hot there.

Can't wait to try the Mine Train ride. Looks fun

Lunch looks good at Kona Cafe. Only eaten breakfast there, will have to try lunch or dinner one day

Getting the family circus moving and out the door has gotten more difficult with each year- or maybe it was each child? The heat was a major factor too as we had to be ready for that too. Kona is a must do for me now. We really enjoyed it!

Joining in on the fun and loving your report so far. The kids are adorable and I just love your Mom!!! Can't wait to hear more!!!

So happy you are enjoying it and reading along. My mom, or Mamoo, is something for sure. Sometimes my sister and I say she is like having a third child but all kidding aside she is great. She loves her grandkids so much and it is hard having her live so far away. You can always tell when she is around because the kids are dressed in matching outfits or dolled up. Kind of like the boys in these pictures with their matching outfits and hats!

Kona lunch looks really good. It's so hard to get a lot done when it is hot and humid. All you want to do is go in air conditioned spaces and not move!

Kona was excellent for sure. The heat and I do not mix well at all and Braden is the same way. Avery rolls with it much better than Braden and I. I swear I can still feel how hot it was...........

Hoping to possibly get a few updates in this week while I am on Spring Break. Not that it looks anything like Spring here. I am pretty sure this winter in upstate NY will never end. I have been overcome with insane jealousy at all of the people heading south this week. It seems like pretty much everyone is going somewhere. I had no plans for the 10 days off but we have decided to leave tomorrow and go visit Mamoo in Ohio for a few days. That will be a nice little trip and the kids are very excited. Still I wish I was heading to Myrtle Beach or Orlando.............. I started tentatively looking at next February availability and am thinking we will head back to WDW then. I miss Myrtle Beach too so I was thinking possibly Florida in February and then Myrtle for April. But I guess that could be switched or if we only do one it would probably be WDW since we have points to use. At least I have the hope for next year to get me though this awful weather!

Just got caught up on your last few updates. Great morning in the MK. Love the magic moments, like the waving on Under the Sea - so sweet! Glad you all enjoyed the Mine Train! And great idea to go to Kona for lunch. One of our favorites for any meal. And you're right about it being a much more relaxed atmosphere than the parks at that hour. Hope you have a good trip to Ohio!

Off to do the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue!

After making it back to BLT for the afternoon we did some relaxing and ran a few errands. Everyone went swimming and I even went down the waterslide a few times with the boys. It was a blast!

If you notice, as usual, Braden is missing in the photo. Well he was not on his best behavior right then and my sister happened to see a security guard somewhere nearby. She told Braden if he didn't behave the police would be after him. Well at some point the man did head our way and this is a picture of my child running as he thought he was in trouble with the police. :rolleyes1

I have no idea what I did wrong on the post above but I could not get it to edit correctly and it deleted the whole second half. :( Very frustrating. No I have to redo it again. Sorry the one picture is posted twice- I can not seem to figure the editing out!

Lets try this again!

On the boat ride over to Fort Wilderness it was absolutely beautiful. The sun was going down and I had one of those moments where I just took a minute to appreciate how lucky I was to be in that moment with my family. I know I mentioned that I had a stressful summer due to health concerns and everything sort of hit me at that moment as I looked across Bay Lake at BLT, The Contemporary and The Wilderness Lodge. I just took the moment in and was so very thankful to be at the place I love so much. There is just something about Bay Lake that always gets me. Makes me teary eyed right now just thinking about it!

None of us had ever been to Fort Wilderness so I was very excited for this evening. This meal was a must-do when I was planning the trip because everything I read about it was so amazing. I also was just excited to experience Fort Wilderness since it is such an amazing part of WDW and I had never gotten to there before.

Because we had TIW I had booked the 8:30 seating of the Hoop-Dee-Doo so we could use the discount. Once we arrived it was a long process to pick up the tickets and then get refunded the discount because you have to pay in advance and then get your discount upon arrival. It was a lot of standing and waiting for the family but everyone did quite well.

Thanks for the comments and we did have a good trip to Ohio. Not excited to back in NY and headed back to work tomorrow. It just never seems like long enough!

Beautiful Bay Lake pics and I'm glad you were able to soak in the magic of the moment. Looking forward to seeing what you think of Hoop Dee Doo. I've heard great things, but haven't made it there yet.

Hoop-Dee-Doo-Revue

After waiting we were very happy when they opened the doors and let everyone into Pioneer Hall. Our seating was Category 1 since that is what you get with TIW at the late seating. Our table was very close to the front and right in the middle. This was definitely a great table! As soon as we sat down they came and brought the cornbread, salad and sangria. The whole vibe was very chaotic as people were trying to get seated and servers were rushed to get the food out. My sister and I both did try the Sangria but honestly it didn't do too much for me.

Salad

Cornbread

The salad was just ok- not anything special for sure and the cornbread was very good. We had barely started the salad and bread when they came and brought all of the other food. It was a very rushed pace as they want you to eat before the show. Braden was super tired and he was cold so he had to wear my mom's sweater and then he proceeded to crawl into her lap and sleep through the rest of dinner and the show.

After the bread they brought out fried chicken in a bucket, ribs, baked beans, corn and mashed potatoes. I am not a ribs fan and everything tasted ok but not fantastic. I knew the menu ahead of time and was thinking the show would make up for the food. I didn't get too many food pictures.

We felt rushed to eat the food because dessert was coming. Overall the pace of eating felt very, very rushed. The hall was also very crowded and noisy- not horrible but not a relaxing dinner by any means.

Very quickly the show was starting and for the most part we all enjoyed it. Braden, as I wrote above, slept through it all. Owen really enjoys theatre and musicals so I knew he would like this. It was fun but a little corny- pretty much what I expected. I don't know if if it was the late time, the fast pace, the food, the show or what exactly it was but overall I felt pretty "meh" about the whole experience. I really wanted to love it and have it be one of those amazing memories but for us it was not. Everyone felt the same way. I am glad we got to experience it but I am totally "been there, done that" about it and don't feel the need to go again. This is just my opinion and I know so many people love it so take this for what it is!

Once the show was over it was crazy trying to leave. All of the people leaving the show descend upon the transportation at once and it is nuts. I never really thought about that in advance and it was very late. The kids were exhausted as we made our way to the boat launch and that is when it got more interesting. There were already a lot of people waiting for a boat back to WL or Contemporary or to get back to the MK. There were no boats in sight and I quickly realized that there was already a boat or two loads full of people in front of us. It was also about this time that we noticed the bugs. They were everywhere and crawling on everything. Because it was so dark they were flocking to the lights of the boat launch and there were total swarms of them. It was disgusting. I have never seen anything like it. People were tired and grouchy and now everyone was getting covered in bugs. It was not a pleasant place to be at all and I will be honest- we waited a very, very, very long time to get a boat. This was probably the biggest issue of the night and just seemed like poor planning on someone's part to not have a few boats waiting for that immediate rush of people leaving the Hoop-Dee-Doo. I don't know what the bus situation was but this alone was enough to make me never want to go back!

Finally we got a boat and we headed back across a dark Bay Lake.

We got back and booked it for BLT. Can you see us up there?

This had been a super long night and everyone was beat. My little two-year-old was a champ. She was the only kid still smiling, happy and in a fabulous mood. She and my sister took the long way through BLT and my sister taught her to say "I am 2 and I'm amazing" to everyone we went by and to this day she still says it (we had to make her change it to 3 recently though). It was a sweet and adorable way to end the long night!

Love Fort Wilderness campground. We have stayed in a camper once and a cabin and it was lot of fun.

Never been to Hoop De Revue. Trent a picky eater and not a fan of musicals. Bummer you didn't have an enjoyable time there.

I'm all caught up. I'm enjoying your time at BLT. We're hoping to try it when we go. We'll be using points for our stay as well and are thinking of a split stay to save on points too. I'd love to hear your experience transitioning from one resort to the next. We're thinking BLT and AKV or VWL and BW or really any of those combos. Can't wait to hear more.

Wow! I go really behind on your TR! Sorry that hoop e doo wasn't all that,. We are planning it for a future trip. I hate when meaks are rushed. Im still looking forward t it and know it is corny. Thanks fr the review.

I really think it would be fun to camp there! We are not much of a camping family but if I had a nice camper I am sure I could be. So many things I want to do in this lifetime....if only I had unlimited funds! I felt bad writing that we didn't love it. It really wasn't bad just for us wasn't great.

We loved BLT so, so much. Braden is still talking about it all the time and it has been 8 months. I am hoping we can possibly switch to there for our February trip but it is a much busier time of year so I am thinking my chances aren't great. I have VWL booked right now which is our home but I do hope to switch at 7 months. I am also toying with the idea of trying a studio at the Poly if that is available. I like that the studios at VWL and Poly have the extra pull-out twin bed now- that would be perfect for Braden!

I will write more about our experience transitioning when we get there in the report and I will say that it was harder than I thought. I think part of the issue was we just loved BLT so much and then AKV didn't feel so much like home. It was hard making the first switch too because we knew half our trip was over so there is a ton of factors to think about when switching. I love getting to try more than one resort and area but it was hard. I think without little kids it would be much easier and worth it especially if you are on a longer trip like we had at 10 days. I probably would not ever do it on a less than 7 day trip unless of course availability forced us to. I like the idea of splitting too to be at a MK resort and then an EPCOT one- the feel of the areas are so different. I am torn because there were such positive aspects to switching but yet it was not super easy. The packing up everything was kind of a pain and just the sorrow of leaving one resort was sad. In the end it was worth it but I think keep it to a split between 2 if possible on a longer trip- three was too much.

Glad you were able to catch up- I've been keeping up with all your changes and plans for the upcoming birthday celebration. Feeling rushed always makes things hard and with little kids it is hard enough to sit down and enjoy a meal! I think if I could have relaxed and not had my kids with me the Hoop with have been a much better experience. I wouldn't ever try to persuade someone not to try it just because of our experience. I know so many people love it! Hope you guys will too!

Day 4: Off to Epcot!

So far in this report there has been a lot of Magic Kingdom but on this day we finally changed it up. We woke up and waited for my cousin to arrive at BLT to meet us. She was in town visiting her mother who now lives in Orlando and is a cast member so we were super excited to see her. We don't get to see her often at all and she along with my other cousin is a major Disney lover. It isn't often I find kindred spirits who love Disney as much as me so this makes me very happy. So everyone was excited to see her and head off to Epcot.

Avery and Adi sported their new Minnie Mouse dresses my Mom had bought them. I love this picture of Avery!

Adi and I took a selfie:

Once my cousin had arrived we packed up and headed over to the Contemporary to get on the monorail to the TTC. It was a quick ride and then we could just switch to the Epcot Monorail.

Notice the Mickey lollipop in Owen's hand.........we went through a lot of those that week. Lollipops make many things better.

We made it to Epcot and got our mandatory family photo in front of Spaceship Earth. Notice anyone missing? I know you are surprised!

We got there not too long after opening and everyone was in a pretty good mood. We were all excited my cousin was joining us and it just felt instantly more relaxing then Magic Kingdom and the rush we had been feeling for days.

Our first stop of the day was The Seas with Nemo and Friends. Shockingly Braden agreed to a picture and this is one of my favorites of all of us!

The Nemo ride was a hit like it is always is. The boys were excited to ride with my cousin and they fought all day over who got to ride/sit with her. Another neat thing happened when we were boarding this ride. We saw a friend who works with my sister. She is a major Disney lover too and we knew she was there at the same time but never expected to run into her. Small world!

After the Nemo ride we headed to Turtle Talk with Crush but Braden and Avery were not cooperating at all so I had to leave with them before it started. The rest of the family enjoyed the show while I waited with my uncooperating children outside.

Before we left we were able to grab a few shots inside Bruce's mouth.

Lunch at Via Napoli

After leaving the Seas we slowly made our way over to World Showcase. It was then that I noticed the most amazing thing....... the crowds- or should I say lack of them! After dealing with the madness of MK for several days EPCOT seemed almost empty. It was amazing. Plus there was little breeze blowing which made the heat seem not as bad at the MK. I was so happy! It was just a nice, peaceful trip walking over to Italy for lunch and everyone was very excited.
This ADR was one I was super excited about. Everything I had read about Via Napoli had been positive and the kids love pizza so I was very hopeful that this would turn out to be a great meal. I was also really excited to spend time with my cousin and enjoy a meal with her. We made our way to the back of Italy and checked in and it was only a few minutes and we were seated.
We started with appetizers. We had the fried veggies and the risotto balls. Both were excellent, and the kids got mozzarella bites too.

Risotto Balls

Fried Veggies

Avery enjoying her appetizer

Apparently we also got a salad of some kind

I tried one of their iced teas and it tasted very peachy. It wasn't bad but it was not plain tea for sure. For the main course we ordered 2 large pizzas. One was half Quattro Formaggi and half asparagus and truffle. The other was prosciutto and melon. It was fabulous! Everyone loved the pizza. I can't recommend it enough.

Prosciutto and Melon

Quattro Formaggi and Asparagus/Truffle

The kids got their own pepperoni pizzas and they loved them as well.

In summary I highly, highly recommend Via Napoli. We had a fabulous experience and the food was outstanding. I want to go back right now!

Wow! The pizzas look fabulous and I love the Arancini balls! I would just love to have some food from there right now. We came back from the big birthday weekend, and I made fried rice for dinner, but now I'm hungry again. :sad2: Maybe I should just go with the flow. We ate so much over the weekend, I probably need to go to bed and not worry about pizza!
