Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

3 days til we leave on first Disney vacation!! I finally finished our magic bands today! Mine is the pink, and my Dd5s are the orange and blue (she really wanted purple, thus the purple sparkles). My Dh didnt want anything done to his, but I convinced him to at least let me paint the Mickey head.

I really like the grey one. I'm definitely going to show it to my husband.

I don't know how you all make yours look so incredible! There are endless amazing pics on here.

I will list below what FAILED for me. I tried each method on a different band and tossed them all into a cup of water to see what would hold up as if at the pool.

1. Glow in the dark duct tape (1inch happened to fit pretty much perfectly) with tattoos (which showed up awesome on the tape. No polish on one side. Base coat over the other side. Duck tape started to come off! Who knew... It peeled from one end where I had trimmed it to fit. The rest was super stuck on. All of the tattoos smeared. The bands were wet when I ran my finger over them, but I wanted a "real world" situation. It may not have smeared had I let them dry.

2. Stickers with no polish. The stickers did not come unstuck. However, the "picture" separated from the "sticky" part. Not surprising, but I thought I would say it anyway. ;)

3. Stickers on the duck tape. This was purely experimental. I had one covered with base coat, one without. The one without came off in the water. The one with came off when I rubbed it. This time the duck tape stuck.

On all of the above, I was experimenting to see what worked. I had no intention of keeping anything I had done even if it worked. I redid all of the bands with a mix of duck tape and stickers. Then I coated them all with several layers of base coat. I didn't put them in water, so I don't know how it would have held up. I did open one up, and it creased more than I liked. Mostly, I didn't like how shiny it was, so I removed everything. We've decided to take plain bands and put new stickers on every day...or none at all.

I just thought I'd share my fails to help others. Oh yes, and none of the bands look worse for wear. They all look normal.

ETA: after looking at the red band in better light, it does seem dull after using polish remover. Otherwise, they seem to look fine.

Thank you! I used 2 clear coats first, then stickers & flowers found at walmart, then added some crystals cause a lady has to have some bling! Mickey Head is some $1 store polish that I liked outlined with a silver paint pen, and the glitter is from Avon for nail tips :) I did a clear coat after each layer with 2 clear coats to end! I made sure to keep the band wrapped around a small bottle to keep its round shape and avoid cracking!

I was pretty impressed that it turned out as well as it did, so I'm happy with it! Now whether it stands up to water - we shall see next week! 8.5 days to go!! Woo Hoo!!!!!

Here are ours!

Missing is my son's. His is from magic your band and just has his name on it created by a Dis'r here (with Phineas & Ferb).

The Elsa band glows in the dark.

What did you use for his Mickey head, I love the way that one looks?

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I don't have any "old" ones to practice on so I'm patiently waiting for ours to arrive.
Can I ask a few questions about your experiences?

I was planning on using white duct tape on the band, then adding stickers than giving it a few coats of base coat polish.
It sounds like from your experiments, this might not hold up ... you said the stickers "came off when I rubbed it" - just casual rubbing, like brushing against things? Or vigorous, intentional rubbing? :-) so ridiculous for me to ask such a specific question, but it makes a difference to me for some reason!

Also, what kind of stickers were you using - the flat, regular stickers, or something that would fall outside of a "traditional" sticker?
I've got some very cute stickers that are called "Epoxy" stickers ... I don't know what that means ... they are kind of thick and almost solid ... more than just a flat sticker.
I am wondering how to anchor these to the bands - open to any suggestions!

thanks!

I rubbed them with my thumb, slid it over the top. It was maybe more pressure than casual wear but not vigorous. They were just regular stickers, the flat paper kind not puffy or foil or anything. I'm not sure what epoxy are! It may well work for you though. When I redid everything a second time, I did the duck tape, stickers, and several coats of base coat on one band. One side had a large sticker, about 2 inches, that did not want to stick very well. I clipped slits in it to help it bend and lay flat around the curve. The other side of the Mickey head was a collage of small stickers, about the size of the Mickey head. These stuck easily. I did 3-4 coats over everything. The small stickers looked well coated, but the large sticker had some spots around the edges that I had trouble getting a good seal. It may well work for you though. While I didn't test that second band in water, it seemed pretty solid. I n fact, I am sure it would hold up if you don't swim. I bet it would hold up swimming, too. I just didn't like the crinkle when I opened it or the shiny of the polish. So...I went back to the basic band. Hope that helps!

I think the key to making stickers work is to apply them over a basecoat. I basecoated my bands, and found that the stickers were pretty much a permanent part of the band the second I let there by any contact. The finishing touch was several heavy layers of basecoat / topcoat OVER the stickers making sure to completely cover / seal all of the edges. That makes it pretty unlikely that they will come off easily. Of course, if you don't want a shiny / glittery kind of finish, then you probably won't want to use that method.

What did you use for his Mickey head, I love the way that one looks?
I used white fingernail polish to fill the groove around the Mickey head (really just painted over the whole thing), then used fingernail polish remover on a paper towel to wipe off all but what was in the grooves. Then I painted the Mickey head with a sparkly red fingernail polish.

For those of us who aren't very artistic, I discovered a great way to paint the mickey head without making a mess. I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. First I covered the area with a piece of blue painters tape. I pressed on it to feel where the outline of the mickey head was. Then, I slowly and carefully traced the outline with a seam ripper, punching through the blue tape. Then I was able to peel off the part covering mickey, protecting the area around the mickey head.

Yeah! I can finally posts pictures! Okay, here's my magic bands. I just used nail polish and adhesive rhinestones. Some are from last year, and some for this upcoming trip.

Hi! I just joined, but been following this forum since November? My family received our MagicBands a couple weeks ago and so far I only decorated mine with temp tattoos involving Ariel. I loved all the tips on here and it really helped! I just have to sealmy band and then work on my siblings' and parents' bands. Mine was the trial band lol :stitch:
