Do you think Captain EO is coming back?

I know Disney claims it is coming back but I'm not so sure if that's true or not. After seeing this video that goes over the changes to the theater, it seems like they went through too much of a hassle just to bring EO right back. What do you guys think?

I don't think it will. In Disneyland they just leave it empty and put every new movie preview in it. They said captain EO would come back to that location as well.

Yes, I think it will be back. Until Disney decides to spend the money (or finds a sponsor) on a new 3D film, I think they will continue to run it just for capacity.

Do you think it's more likely than just running preview after preview?

oh...I hope they can come up with something better than Captian EO...don't get me wrong...25 years ago it was great. Now, not so much. If they are just going to leave it empty, they could bring back "Figment" (lots of Figment-lovers out there!) - even, "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience" would be a better choice, IMHO.

Since they apparently need to spend money in India to burn up some of the profits that are sitting there, they could hire Indian animators to convert classic Disney shorts like Steamboat Willie to 3D for presentation in the Captain EO theater.

I was glad that EO came back and I had a chance to see it. I was too young for it's first round. To me though, EO represented Disney.
For some reason, to which I am glad now, my mom taped the opening of Euro Disney. On that, they have a section of EO playing, and closes with MJ tearing open his jacket to reveal the white t shirt with the lightening bolt (is it if I remember correctly!) on it. Having watched that video many times growing up (I was an odd child), it just screams DISNEY to me.
However, it was nice that they brought it back for a little while at least. I think HISTA had become dated and had been in situ for some time. But it would be sad if they now just use that area for previews. Sadly, I think the Imagination Pavillion lost its way a long time ago, and it just seems like the whole area is goig further and further down that path.

I've said it before with respect to live musical shows such as Beauty and the Beast and it can also apply to 3D movies ... why don't they have a repertory theater type of model? That way, people who dislike Captain EO could avoid it and see something else, and the real EO fans could make a point ... or get a FP+ ... to see the movie when it is shown a couple of times per day.

Any halfway imaginative imagineer could figure out a way to make the theater support the different movies as they are swapped in and out. Such as changeable lighting, popup AAs, shaking seats and other 4D type effects.

As it is now, Disney is falling between 2 stools. When they play the same movie in the same theater for more than 10 years they annoy some of the guests who get tired of the same old 3D movie year after year and they annoy the rest of the guests when they finally get rid of the "classic" that they enjoyed since they were 5 years old.

Wait... Someone catch me up.... Did captain EO close in Epcot ?
Yes, they are using that theater for previews of the movie Tomorrowland. Its supposed to be temporary.

This is very sad news and am not happy at all.... I mean cmon people! He saves the world through dance!! How can they take it away? Hopefully it will be back. However I need to go this weekend to confirm these changes

It's old and outdated. It was nice they brought it back when he died but it's time for something new.

I think Captain EO is like a fixture. It just goes with the whole "future from the 1980s" vibe that I get from EPCOT...and I LOVE it.

Don't get me wrong, in not a michael Jackson fan . But I am a captain EO fan... Mainly because of hooter

I think Jacko has finally sailed off into the sunset.

I wish they'd just close the theater - honestly - they don't care enough to update it or come up with anything new.
They could probably shudder the whole pavilion... Just see if the lems coming through the gate notice.

Honey I shrunk the audience ran ridiculously too long...just like the playground over at studios...

I mean - how hard is it for a movie company with about 8 divisions now to make new movies for the parks?

Every nickel is precious - I suppose.
