Wine and Dine 2015

I tried out :90/:30 intervals for the first time today and I think it went pretty well. It was only for a short distance though, so I'm anxious to see how it goes if I try to go longer.

Does anyone else have trouble really slowing down for their long runs? I tend to be running my long runs at about the same pace as my short runs (11:30 - 12:00). On Sunday, I did 7 miles, and the last mile was my fastest, even with it being slightly uphill. :confused3 My husband says that clearly the answer is I need to speed up my short runs, which I suppose I could try. Going slower was much easier when I was stuck inside on the treadmill.

I have the same problem; on one of my most recent long runs my pace was actually faster than my two short runs for the week. :confused3 I think I just get so in the zone on my long runs that I don't even pay attention to my pacing and just go with what feels comfortable. The only time I've really slowed down for my long runs is when the temps hit the 90s and then again that was just because the slower pace felt more comfortable.

Our Galloway group leader is really encouraging us to work on increasing pace with the new 30 second walk intervals. We ran this morning doing a 2 min/:30 for 3 miles and averaged a 10:15 pace. That's really fast for me. Anyway, that was with some really hard effort and our long run pace group is doing :90/:30, so we won't be able to hit that pace overall on those runs, but we want to shoot to end up between 10:30-10:45 average. We basically ran a bit faster and then concentrated on walking more briskly during the breaks. I think we'll continue to do the 2/:30 for our short runs and try to really push for the speed and then back off some on the long runs.

I ran the park today. I trained in this very hilly park for the WD 2015, and it was smooth sailing running up the highway embankments during the actual race. However, after the last half, I have been running the flats. Well, with daylight savings, it's now not a problem to run in the park before work, and I ran up the hills without dying. I am so happy because I was worried I wouldn't be able to run them (but I do admit that I ran a route that let my run finish just before the monster hill (.4 of a mile straight up). I still need a little more endurance for that one. :)

Just want to show off my new running shoes! Nike Free 5.0. And my Achilles is feeling much better, not limping at all today, but I am still going to stay off of running until May, just to play it safe. Don't want to reinjure it. So I haven't actually ran in these yet, just a little bit in the store. They feel awesome though! :)

Cute! I have to wear support heavy shoes because my lighter ones have resulted in shin splints. And sadly there aren't as many fun colors and designs for them!

Glad you are feeling better and love the shoes. Great color.

I've been running some in new Topo shoes, the Fli-Lyte. Love them. I've always run in Saucony Kinvaras, but I think I'm a total convert to these shoes. Just wish they had more colors available in them. :rolleyes1

Yay new shoes! I need to pick out some new running shoes myself. I've been running in my trail running shoes because my Brooks Ravennas were aggravating my tendonitis. I've gotten so many weird injuries from running, though, that I get super nervous when I try new shoes.

Have you tried to "skip" lace your shoes. I skip a few eyelets so the lace crossing doesn't correspond an area of pain. You said you had pain from the big toe joint to ankle right? Maybe this wouldn't work. Sometimes I have to loosen my laces midway through the long runs. I feel your apprehension in shopping for new shoes.

Yes, it's the tendon that runs across the top of my foot, so the pain can crop up anywhere from the big toe joint to the ankle and even a bit in the arch. I haven't tried skip lacing, but lacing pretty loosely combined with changing to the trail runners has helped tremendously. I'll probably try loose-lacing the Ravennas on a short run this week and see how that goes. If that still causes a problem, then I definitely need to find new shoes. I think it was too-tight lacing (and maybe too many miles on the treadmill) that caused the issue in the first place. I was actually surprised the first time I tried not tightening the laces so much--I thought for sure it would drive me crazy because I'm used to having them pretty snug, but it's actually been fine.

Somewhat random question: Has anyone tried running a long run while listening to an audiobook? I know we previously talked about some good running songs but I was wondering if anyone had tried an audiobook instead while running.

Your husband is right. As long as you feel comfortable and are able to carry on a conversation, your long run pace is right where it should be. If that's true for you, which it sounds like it is, then you should focus more on speeding up your short runs. Try some tempo runs where you build to a 10:45 pace. That'll do you more good in making you a faster and stronger runner than intentionally slowing down your long runs when you don't really need to.

I haven't tried an audiobook, but I've listened to podcasts while running. If it's something engaging, then it works for me and makes the time go by quicker, but anything too dry or too detailed and my mind starts to wander too much and then I realize I haven't really "heard" the last 5-10 minutes. Sometimes it's a nice break from music, especially if you're like me and you get a bit tired of your running mix after a while.

My husband goes between podcasts and audiobooks to listen to during his runs. Its how he listened to the Hunger Games & Divergent Series books and Gone Girl and he catches up on his Star Wars Novels. He says it makes the time go faster if its something that is captivating.

Catching up on this thread after the craziness of the fruitless pursuit of free dining. :badpc: But on the happy side, I'm going to Disneyland!

My planned ADRs:

Thursday night - HDDR at Fort Wilderness
Friday - hit the expo, Raglan Road for lunch, spa time, dinner not sure
Saturday - Wolfgang Puck Express for breakfast, shop Disney Springs, hotel for lunch, nap, snack on the bus, then demolish the after party :drinking:
Sunday - 50's Prime Time for lunch, Hollywood Brown Derby Fantasmic package for dinner
Monday - FW booths all day, Garden Grill for dinner
Tuesday - Tusker House for breakfast, Yak and Yeti for dinner
Wednesday - Drinking around the World, Biergarten for dinner
Thursday - Going to Universal
Friday - Crystal Palace for breakfast, BOG for dinner during the Christmas party
Saturday - goodbye breakfast at Kona Cafe

*fingers crossed for BOG*

Assuming you're using a 10K result, I think that looks good. It has the name of the race, names, city, state, date, distance and time, and that's everything that rD asks for. :)

Sorry, yes, 10K. Thanks! There is another 10K about an hour from me that I was planning on using for POT in June, but I REALLY don't want to run in Arkansas in June (heat+humidity!). This race would be so much better as it is at home and hopefully it won't be as hot. I'm a bit nervous about running my first 10K with so few people in it (23 people last year in 10K?) though.

Less people to weave around though! That's not a bad thing! :)
