I have the regular disney visa and thinking about switching over to premier. Will we get the $100 statement credit since we are "new" to opening it or because I am switching we won't get that advantage?

Thanks everyone!

If you apply for the premier Visa without switching (ie open a new account instead), you will get the bonus. If you switch from one to the other, you probably won't.

I think this is true.

However, watch for upgrade promos. I just switched because they offered $50 bonus reward points, which will negate the first annual fee. I may switch back before the fee comes due.

The $100 offer is for new cardholders only (but you could certainly try to apply for a new Disney Premier card instead of upgrading your regular Disney Visa -- I'm not sure if that would work.)

I believe $50 is the most they offer now to upgrade. Log in to your current card and/or check your email to see if you have an upgrade offer -- I don't have a pop up on either of my accounts right now, but I do have a current email offer for $50 Reward Dollars if I upgrade and make 1 purchase -- but with the $49 annual fee, that's a wash. You do get 2 pts for Parks purchases, gas, groceries, and restaurants, but other cards pay better. (For instance, AmEx Blue Cash Preferred pays 6% on grocery stores, where I buy Target/Disney Gift Cards, get fuel points, and save upwards of 17% on my Disneyland trips. Two of my AmEx cards pay 3% on gas....)

Best bet is to keep your current no annual fee Disney Visa and have other adults in the household apply for card with a referral bonus [I don't believe Chase will allow an individual to hold 2 identical Visas but I could be wrong.] The current offer is for a $200 Disney Gift Card when you get the regular Disney Visa (no annual fee) and spend $500 within 3 months. If they sent you a referral pamphlet in the mail and your household members (or anyone) uses your referral info, you will get $50 Disney Dream Reward Dollars on your own card.

Example: Husband applies with your referral info = $200 Disney Gift Card for him and $50 Disney Dream Reward Dollars for you. (And no annual fee on either card.)

might be worth a call to Chase. I found an offer in the Disney Insider newsletter for $200 GC if you sign up for Premiere and spend $500 in some time frame (can't remember). I called Chase because I have the regular DV and was told that yes I can get the sign up bonus for the Premiere because it is considered a "new" sign up for that card. I had get the Premiere card not upgrade the regular one.

Used the card for a year, confirmed when the next years $49 fee would be and cancelled before and put the rewards on a card and used it to purchase a Disney GC. ended up with ~ $100 in rewards + $200 GC = $300 less $49 fee = $251 in free money for next years Disney trip.

now I am back to using the regular DVisa for anything I would only get 1% on with other cards.

If you get a second card, yes, you can get whatever bonuses they are offering. If you are trying to upgrade from one to another (still only having one card) then no, you will not be able to get the he bonus.

I have both for that reason though I only use one of them.

I have both cards, just me and my name on both. I got the Premier in order to boost my benefits for our trip in July. I don't generally pay fees so my thought is to potentially cancel the Premier before the 3rd year (I figure the $100 covered 2 years of annual fees). If I cancel I will still have the original no fee.

Upgrading depends on how many rewards points you get vs the annual fee. After several years of debating, we just upgraded to the premier card and received $50 Dream dollars. We also have finally reached the point where the rewards points finally outweigh the cost of the annual fee. I have never paid a fee for a credit card so that is what held me back on getting the premier card. So far, we have accrued way more points that I expected.

After having the regular no-fee Disney Visa for many years, I signed up for the premier Visa about a month ago. I would periodically get offers to upgrade in the mail, but they never offered more than $50. I noticed an offer for a $200 statement credit on the Disney World website and took advantage of it. I had to charge $500 within the first 3 months to get the statement credit. Two days after I reached the $500 threshold the $200 statement credit was in my account. I didn't even have to wait until the end of current billing period, which surprised me. I'll keep the card for the first year, but cancel before the next annual fee gets charged. To me, the 2% on groceries and gas isn't enough to offset the $49 fee. I'm getting 6% cash back on groceries and 3% cash back on gas with my Amex Blue card with a $75 annual fee. Just something to note: the Disneyland website only offers a $100 statement credit, while the Disney World website offers $200.

im debating applying for one just not sure how it all works
when you make a purchase are you automatically charged the interest? when can you pay off your purchases?

There is no interest until you miss a payment, or do not pay your full statement balance by the due date.

In other words, you'll receive a statement after every month, and as long as you pay it off, there's no interest.

thank you I'm really wanting to get one just want to avoid interest charges

Yearly, and the first payment is 12 months after you sign up.

As soon as I made my first charge to my account on April 5 my billing period ended and I was immediately charged my $49 annual fee. But my offer from Chase never included waiving the first year's fee just the $200 statement credit.

Interesting- I'll have to double check, but it's true there was a special offer involved for mine.

I didn't get charged the fee for 12 months either. But I upgraded from the regular Disney Visa to the Premier and it might have been part of the offer that the fee was waived for the first year. I believe offers vary frequently, with different offers for upgrades vs new applicants as well.

Yeah my wife and i have the regular one and I dont think they will give you the bonus, it chase that is offering it not disney
