Expedition Everest Challenge 2015 - EEC 2015

Is everybody getting some good runs in before #TinkHalf next month!? Everybody have their #TinkHalf fairy wings ready? Can you believe the next runDisney event is almost here for #TinkHalf!???
:jester:

@MeridaAndAngus When we drove last year I think we got there around 8. We had no traffic issues and enjoyed ourselves with the dancing and some pictures beforehand, but it probably was a bit earlier than necessary. This year we'll probably still shoot to be there before 9, though, just because we don't know what the traffic situation was as it got closer to race time, and we'd like to avoid any unnecessary stress trying to rush to the start of the race.

I'm not really sure about #2 since everyone in our group ran, but if he does go earlier, he can get a bit more of his money's worth from the party since that opens up at 10:30. If he's not interested in doing that, then maybe somebody else can speak from experience as a spectator or who had a spectator come later in past EEC events.

Quick question about getting to the race.

1. I'll be running with a friend who lives locally. Current plan is she will come pick me up from the hotel (S&D), and drive us over to the race. How early should we get there? I'm used to getting to rD races at least an hour early, but I feel like that might be overkill for this one?

2. DH is not running, but will be driving our rental car from S&D to AK to join us for the after party. Will he have any trouble getting into the parking lot or park with his party ticket if he comes over after the race has started? I'm hoping he can just come over when we're close to finishing the race so he's not standing around by himself for a long time.

As for #2, I don't know 100%, but I believe it would be difficult for him to arrive, driving, until after 10:30 or so at the earliest, and quite possibly even later. The problem is the majority of the first mile of the course is running around the outside of the parking lots, so once the race starts, I don't see how cars coming in after that time would be able to get into the lots until the last runner has passed through. I don't recall corral starting times precisely, but I would guess this would be the 10:30-10:40 time range. I think they do continue to allow late-arriving runners [who have driven] into the lots until not long before the start of the race, so personally, I might recommend him planning on arriving by 9:30 or so and just hanging out for a while. I think an hour to kill until the start of the party at 10:30 might not be all that bad with all the pre-race activity and then the first mile of the race running by. Otherwise, he may not even be able to get into the party until perhaps even 11 or so.

Again, this is all just based on what I remember seeing at the race in the past, since there is pretty much no info to answer your question available from their site.

Good luck!
McCoy

Since runDisney will probably take it down, I'll share here for any of the Challenge runners frustrated by lack of buildup...

That is the most awesome thing ever!!!

I'm sure today, runDisney will be distracted by the WDW marathon opening up for AP/DVC'ers.
Always an excuse.
Everest is such a small race, they probably just procrastinate on everything.

That yeti is hilarious!

For the first time in several years, I am not going to WDW for marathon weekend and thus not registering for any of the races... it's kind of a relief! I am more than happy to be focusing on Everest weekend right now. :sunny:

@MODisFan No, neither this 5k nor any other 5k will have any impact on corral placement for a runDisney half marathon. Only those distances 10k and above will be used for calculating corral placements -- from the upcoming races I believe they've listed 10k, 12k, 15k, 10 mile, half and full marathons as acceptable distances for proof-of-time and corral placements.

Your January half marathon time can be your proof-of-time submission for corral placement in November if you'd like it to be, assuming you have no other/better times before the deadline for submissions. As proof-of-time submissions have moved completely outside of the initial registration process, make sure you know when you need to submit so that you give them something to try and avoid the last corral.

Thank you @Castle2Castle!

I recently sent an e-mail to RunDisney, asking about the waivers....this is what I sent...

When will the waivers for the Expedition Everest Challenge be available to print?
We are a family of 4 and I would like to have them printed and completed before we arrive.

Thanks!
-Kristen Rice

...and this was the reply I received...

Waivers
  • Official Race number pick-up/waiver forms are now ready to be downloaded.
  • Waivers will be provided approximately one month before the race.
  • You must have your signed waiver and a Photo ID with you to pick up your race packet.
  • A parent or legal guardian must complete and sign the waiver for any participant under 18 years old. No exceptions will be made.

Run Disney Team

I found it to be a little rude:snooty:...they simply cut and pasted the info from the website, which I'd already read. They replied with the underlined, bolded statement that the waivers will be provided approximately 1 month before the race. I understood THAT part...it's the FIRST part that has me (and everyone else!) confused. Are they or are they NOT ready to be downloaded:confused3???

Does anyone know what the longest finish times for the 5k portion has been in the past?

A recent knee injury may force me to walk the entire race, and I'm a little worried about the pacing requirement. I'm prepared to get lapped by little kids, but to get swept off the course would be the final indignity :headache:.

Thank Goodness! So if I have the number off my waiver is there a way to estimate which corral we'll be in???
TIA!
I've been trying to find the 2014 corrals, and can't seem to. They added several corrals last year, so the 2013 ones aren't much help.
IIRC, none of us knew our corrals until packet pick up last year.

Hoping someone has the 2014 corral assignments. I worked really hard to get out of corral I. I know I did, but I just want to know by how much.

I'm just really glad to have my bib number!

@kristenrice I've usually found them to be pretty helpful when I've asked questions, but that's a pretty big miss on that response. But hey, maybe that e-mail ended up bringing it to their attention to fix the darn thing! :thumbsup2

...now if only somebody would pass along to their social media people that we're about 2 weeks away from the event... :rolleyes1

@Ziggy_Stardust Looking at the individual results from last year it looks like 2:27:38 was the longest finisher for the entire challenge, and they had a 5k split of 1:48:05 (34:50/mile!?). I've heard they are more lenient with sweeping at EEC due to it not interfering with other guests (opening parks/roads) and because the clues are expected to take longer, but wow! I'd be cautious taking that kind of pacing as allowable from year-to-year, but if it's accurate then you should have some extra wiggle room to walk it.

As far as bibs go, another site I frequent they're usually pretty good about posting waivers and corral information when it's up. It's been very helpful for looking back and making guesses before corrals have been posted, but it doesn't look like anyone ever found corral information ahead of last year's event. So it may have just been on the bibs and may be that way again this year. And certainly nothing about the handling of EEC this year would lead me to expect a corral update online in the next two weeks...

We didn't find out corrals until we picked up our bibs last year, with it printed on it. Someone I know had a 2600# and was in F. I was in A and had a double digit number.

Thanks @Castle2Castle
I figured I would have some wiggle room, but I definitely don't need that much! Now I can just focus on having a good time on our vacation. :woohoo:

Thank you! We have triple digits so possibly somewhere between B-E - sounds good!

Well I go to download my waiver and it says my name is not found.

It's been so long ago, I just realized my DW registered as a 2 person team. We have never done this race before, can anyone provide any info on how this works? She has her waiver but it only has her name on it.

@swooshbear You should each have a waiver even being registered as a team. I've heard of people having to play with their DOB before (maybe one day either direction) if you want to try that. If not, you can call Mon-Fri 407-939-iRun to see if they can tell you where the "error" is to either correct or allow you to pull it up. Or they'll probably still have printing stations available at packet pickup with staff to help there if need be.
