Expedition Everest Challenge 2015 - EEC 2015

Hi all. I have a few questions - I apologize if they are in the race instructions - I admit I haven't read those yet.
Surely packet pickup will not be IN the park where you would need a park ticket to pick up your packet, right?
And we don't need a park ticket to run the race - that's all included (race & after party) with the race fee, correct?

Thanks

Anyone know when the waivers will be available? I'm putting together our "vacation paperwork" and right now, that is the only thing I am missing.

I have to do a "proud mama moment" too... My youngest daughter, Kaedyn, is the whole reason we are participating in this event. It was her goal to shoot for after she underwent knee surgery last January (at age 8:sad1:). This past Saturday, she completed her first ever, timed 5K event...the Pajama Dash 5K:yay:.

Her goal was 45 minutes and her official time was 41:39:cheer2:.
Bring on Everest...Kaedy is ready!!:dance3:

@kristenrice Waivers should be available any time between now and the event since we're within one month of it. I don't think I've usually seen them go any later than 2 weeks out, but they've usually had it available to print and sign waivers at packet pickup too. So I wouldn't worry too much about not having them yet if you have everything else wrapped up.

BTW, it's great about your family running together and your daughter crushing her goal in her first timed 5k!

Has anyone received any info on the type of clues for the scavenger hunt? In years past I've heard they send out an email and gave sample questions so you could get the theme of the race.

Does anyone know if they will have rundisney magic bands to purchase? I know there is no expo and I have heard the rumor that the New Balance shoes will be on sale.

HERE is somebody elses recap of last year's race with the clues if you want to take a look at what you can expect fromt he clues. We took a look at 2013 examples before we went down last year and they were of a similar nature.

Doesnt seem like much will be going on the yr with package pickup at animal kingdom. Still we r excited that we will b doing the race. Cant wait.

So no expo means no vendors or EEC merchandise?? This is my 2nd rundisney event - Princess 2013 was the first & although the expo was crazy crowded, we got some great souvenirs! With this being the last year for EEC I'd like to be able to buy something. :confused3

They've never had a full expo for EEC I don't think, but they've still had merchandise available so still may be some shirts and accessories this year too.

Yes, the Everest Expo is more like a fancy packet pickup with a few merchandise vendors. It is nowhere near the scale of the Princess Expo, or other Disney race expos. But the last couple of years they still had a small amount of Everest race themed merchandise available.

This year, with it being in the AK parking lot, it might be even smaller than before. But who knows!

I don't mind that it's smaller. The race itself is smaller and therefore is more intimate, and when the weather cooperates, the afterparty is really fun and unique thanks to the smaller venue. It's a totally different vibe than the larger races, I think, and it has always been my favorite Disney race! I'm sad this is the last year.

Then again, I remember back when most Disney races had no "expo" and the packet pickup was a folding table set up on Pleasure Island, manned by a couple of cast members. Sooo... that minimalistic approach probably won't happen ever again, but still, I'm not expecting a huge production this year!

This is my first EEC. I am participating at a team with my DH. In November, I am running in the F&W 1/2. Will the time from this 5K have an effect on my corral placement in November? I ran the WDW 1/2 Half in Jan. Will that be the time they use for corral placement?

@MODisFan No, neither this 5k nor any other 5k will have any impact on corral placement for a runDisney half marathon. Only those distances 10k and above will be used for calculating corral placements -- from the upcoming races I believe they've listed 10k, 12k, 15k, 10 mile, half and full marathons as acceptable distances for proof-of-time and corral placements.

Your January half marathon time can be your proof-of-time submission for corral placement in November if you'd like it to be, assuming you have no other/better times before the deadline for submissions. As proof-of-time submissions have moved completely outside of the initial registration process, make sure you know when you need to submit so that you give them something to try and avoid the last corral.

Has anyone had any success at finding a link to print the waivers? Kind of driving me crazy that it says they're ready to be downloaded but no link to do it.

I think the runDisney website is wrong, because there are no waivers anywhere that I can find! The website has said that "waiver forms are now ready" for quite a while now, but it's apparently not true.

I also think runDisney is kind of neglecting this race. I see the Tinkerbell Half waivers are already out, and that race is the week after the Everest race. I also see there is a link to all six of the Tinkerbell "event communications" available on the runDisney Tinkerbell page, but the Everest page seems like it is lacking a few communications links.

I think since it's a very small race that won't be back next year, they're just not paying much attention to it. Which is a shame, and hopefully I'll be proved very wrong in the upcoming weeks as we get closer to race day! :)

I totally agree with you. I went to the iGiftbag for the race and they still have the coupons from last year's Expedition Everest race up.

Quick question about getting to the race.

1. I'll be running with a friend who lives locally. Current plan is she will come pick me up from the hotel (S&D), and drive us over to the race. How early should we get there? I'm used to getting to rD races at least an hour early, but I feel like that might be overkill for this one?

2. DH is not running, but will be driving our rental car from S&D to AK to join us for the after party. Will he have any trouble getting into the parking lot or park with his party ticket if he comes over after the race has started? I'm hoping he can just come over when we're close to finishing the race so he's not standing around by himself for a long time.
