Does your family stay on-site or off-site when you travel to Walt Disney World?

My honeymoon in November will be my fifth trip to WDW and I have never stayed offsite. I don't think you get the same experience, and if you plan it right then the savings won't be much by staying offsite anyway.

First 2 trips were off site, because I didn't know any better. The last 15 have been on-site. Would never consider off site again. I love the "bubble" and "magic" of being on-site at Disney!

We stay onsite. We've tried off-site but it's not the same. Staying in The World is wonderful!

On site only for us. I would probably opt for vacationing elsewhere rather than stay off site.
I am quoting you, but agreeing with almost all others on here...having stayed off-site, it almost seemed like we were rushing with our boys, who were 4 and 6 at the time we first took them. Some people complain about cost, but I rarely seem all that tired when on property, probably because I do not do the driving and don't have to try to remember where I parked the car, or look for off-property transportation. We can get a nice breakfast at the food court, go back and get ready, then take a leisurely stroll to the bus stop. Then we can go to whatever park we want, and if we decide to go to another resort for dinner or such, we hop on a bus and go there instead of trying to drive to it.

Figuring solely dollars and cents does not account for the hustle-bustle that you encounter staying off site. And if we decide to blow off a park for the day and just go to DTD or another resort like Boardwalk, GF, or OKW, it is nice to just do that as well, or just decide to stay at our resort and go to the quiet pool at our village.

First, you do realize your answers will be skewed by asking them on the REesort board right?

If you want a truly balanced reply ask also on the Orlando board where just as many people will give you very good reasons why they DON'T stay onsite.

I've done both, I love both.

Now my dh and I stayed at the Waldof Astoria right outside the park. Sorry that hotel makes the Grand Floridian look like a motel 6 (just our opinion) , lol.

so basically if we are not using our points we stay offsite. For our dollar we get more value offsite. Now we don't use Disney transportation nor do we do the DDP so those are not perks for us. We also are AP and AAA diamond members so we don't pay for parking, so the only true perk that we even use whether on or off site is EMH.

On site. We're two adults that don't need a ton of room, and we do frequent, very short trips. One or two nights max. We use the room for sleeping and showering - we're there for the parks, not the resort. By the time you add in $17 for parking, even the cheapest off site hotels are nearly (or more) as expensive as a Value. The 'free' parking and the location is what makes it worth it to us to stay on site.

We've done both. Our first stay of 10 nights was 5 nights on and 5 nights off. I have to say, that the 5 nights off property were much more relaxing. We had gone full blast the first 5 days in the World and we felt like we could slow down. Our off property resort was a large suite at a MUCH lower rate than Coronado Springs. It was nice to have the room.

After another trip, we happened upon the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express Card. Now we always stay at the Swan or Dolphin on points. If it wasn't for that, I believe we would have continued to split our stays. The savings off property are huge. But we can stay at Swan for about $40 a night (parking and resort fee).

We alwasy stay onsite. We have always been fortunate to have a nice discount and love the Magical Express, Dining Plan, and staying at the onsite resorts are pure magic for us.

We used to always stay onsite at either WL or FW Cabins, but then we discovered Wyndham Bonnet Creek. I don't even consider WBC to be offsite since you're completely in the "bubble" and only a 5 minute drive to DHS and Epcot. It's so beautiful and the rooms are so big. Love all the pools, the kitchen, the balcony (had an amazing fireworks/lake view one trip!), the washer/dryer, and especially the price ($110-150/night for a two bedroom) ! That being said, we always rent a car, never liked the dining plan, and rarely take advantage of EMH, so we don't miss those onsite perks.
Got a "magical" deal for the Poly/YC this August and I'm very curious to see how those hotels stack up against WBC.

Onsite. I can't bring myself to stay offsite. Luckily, my husband (who swears he doesn't like Disney) agrees.

First onsite trip coming up! So then I will be able to compare LOL. I do think it depends on size of your group. For a family of 5 we are quite limited in where we can stay onsite and not have to sell a couple kidneys. Plus-we own a timeshare so the exchange fee for a 2 or 3 bedroom condo with >1200SF is far far far less than any parking fees or car rental fees :)

This trip I got the Disney spring deal +15% off with orbitz so it is not quite as painful $wise-then moving offsite to our timeshare and doing the "other"part of Orlando.

Really can't wait to experience the "onsite only" bubble!

On site! And we'd never do it any other way. :) Like PP said, if we were going to stay off site, it would be off off - a completely different vacation city.

I would never consider staying offsite.
