Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

Question! We are going in just a couple days and need help!

My band was painted nice and smooth and then I decided it needed that fourth coat of white to really, really cover the yellow. Well, this last coat isn't as smooth as my others. Will the shiny clear coats totally hide that or do I need to add more coats to make it smooth? My husband thinks I should use acetone to basically start over. Ugh. I was hoping to be done sooner rather than later.
Unfortunately I agree with your husband. I have found in painting that if you have a rough and bumpy coat anything on top of it will just make it worse. Also clear shiny coats will REALLY enhance the uneven areas.

I think before removing everything I'd add another coat of the white and see if it will level off. I know I've gotten that between coats but could get it pretty evened out. At worst you've wasted another coat of white but at best you may save yourself from starting over. Or - I'd try adding the top coat. Same thing - at worse you waste a top coat and at best it levels out.

Is there any way that I can get the measurements? I've been trying but I'm off on the exact measeurments for both sides of the band. Thank you for your time!
I can't remember how far back it is but someone figured that all out and posted a template. I wanna say it happened back in January or February, I have the file if it needs to be reposted.

Still waiting on my bands to ship....I've called twice and an expedite form was supposed to have been filled out yesterday but I still don't have any type of confirmation. Getting nervous!! We may not have time to decorate our bands this year. This makes me :(

Does anyone know how long before your trip you should expect to receive your magic bands?

I don't know the exact measurements off hand but I got my template from the Facebook page 'Sillhouette SD and Cameo Users' you have to request to join- which they did very quickly and its under the files tab. I believe the date was back in September of 2014. Hope that helps!

Usually its after the 30 day mark. We are arriving 5/3 and ours havent budged from your bands are being personalized and will be shipping soon. Apparently "soon" is suggestive lol

I arrive 5/9 and mine showed shipped yesterday with tracking info! According to USPS, it is due to arrive between 4/14 & 4/16.

Funny that I happened to be on here today to see this! We are heading home tomorrow and my band held up pretty well. Some of the skinny pieces started to lift, but I think it had more to do with constantly picking up or holding my kiddo. I didn't use a clear coat at all. I did use my hair dryer to heat up the vinyl a little bit while applying to help it adhere better. Everything I have read about vinyl is not to coat it because it actually needs to breath and will stick better the longer it sits. If it gets covered it will actually be more likely to not adhere. I am not sure if doing something to the band first would help or not. Good luck with yours! I got lots of compliments ;)
Thanks for this info - Have you found any info on whether to put Base Coat over SHARPIE ink ? My sons have used sharpies to personalize their bands but I am thinking of putting something over them to protect them / just in case they want to go swimming with them still on. They are not sure they want anything SHINY over their bands but I think they would look better and last longer.

:cool1:Woo-HOO! I think it took me about a week, but I finally made it through *every* page of this thread! All of the art work and just sheer creativity has been amazing and inspirational. I have truly enjoyed the range of art from simple to bling, easy DIY to masterpiece, "deconstructed" to finely detailed. I love each one of them!

Now comes the hard part - what am *I* going to do for ours? We are only going for the 24-hour event, so part of me wants to theme my band around that. But, I haven't come up with any ideas as of yet. I also love Sorcerer Mickey (definitely fond memories of childhood), so that's an option. I know DS 7 will be getting a Baymax band, and DS 8 will get a P&F theme. (I LOVED the Doofenschmirtz one from a few pages back - incredible!) It's a tough call for DS 17 though. He likes going to Disney, but he doesn't really have any "favorites" to speak of. DH is a traditionalist so he said he doesn't want his done - but I think he's getting either a simple Mickey or his team's colors!

Can't wait to see more soon!

My Spectro images came out a little pixelated (totally might fault for not playing with the images more) but I still love it. Here's what is suggested on their site: "Ideally images should be 300dpi but good results can be obtained with smaller images. If you want to upload one image to cover the whole MagicBand Skin, we recommend that your image be 2348 x 278 pixels."

I followed roughly followed the recommended size and saved it as a jpg I believe. Basically it's just something you gotta play with and make sure it's something you really like. :-)

Did they look pixelated on the site when you were making them? I have mine made and in the cart and they look okay to me...I just wanted to see if what i see is what I'll get.

Ok. I have a while before our next trip, but I'm beginning to practice now (DH wants a painted Olaf and I'm sooo not a painter :scared:) and I have a question cause I think I may have to come up with some more themes. I know we get bands for our regular park tickets, but we are also attending 2 of the Halloween parties while we are there. Will we get separate bands for the parties and if so do we get bands for each of the parties? I'm confused . . .

For our everyday bands: DH - Olaf
Me - sun from Tangled
DS - Lightning McQueen and Dusty Crophopper
DD - Elsa and Anna

Also, here is my little contribution to the thread. These are the bands I did for DH and I last year. Simple, but we liked them.

@elgerber
I love this stuff! I put on 3 thin coats (thicker coats looked even murkier) and covered the bands with an acrylic spray sealer. The paint "charges with light; sunlight seems to get a better glow than artificial light (I'm a little crazy, I actually tested it :rolleyes1). It's been 6 months and they still glow!

My next step is to start mixing the glow paint with other paints to see if 1- it will still glow and 2- if it changes the color of the paint. I'd like to have the glow without the murkiness.

To be honest I can't really remember (I don't think so though)...Regardless, I really do love how they turned out and I can't wait to put them on! Like I've said before as long as you follow their guidelines and you like how it looks then they will be just fine. :-)

Awesome, thanks! I checked the properties of all the pics i used and of course they were all under 100 dpi :sad1::sad2: So I pretty much need to start over, had they been close I think I would be ok...but they're way under.
