Wine and Dine 2015

Way to go!!! I'm getting nervous for my first race on the 18th. It is a 15K because I wanted to get a time to see kind of where I"m at. I have been training for awhile but have been sick and had some dental work that kept me down for a bit. Now my nose is so stuffed it is driving me nuts! My original goal was to pace at about 13:15mm but now I"m just hoping I don't get kicked out for being behind the 15mm requirement lol. I'm still new to running so just finishing will be a big accomplishment for me! I just need to feel better so I can get a couple more long runs in before the big day!

Good luck Samantha! I am new to running also and I am much too chicken to do a 15K! We are doing a 5K this weekend, but its a color run so it will be for more fun than anything.
Good luck and I hope you feel better!

Hey, @acruse41, how did your run go? We had a great run. The weather was a bit cold starting out, but once we got going the temp was perfect. I could have lived without the light rain off and on, but even that wasn't bad. We took things pretty easy and I mostly walked up the steep portions of the big hill, but we ended up with a 2:42 half. Well over my PR, but still a fun race.
My time was 2:54.. I was going great until we hit the trail and I stopped for the bathroom. That was a 5 minute wait and my legs were never the same. The hill killed me and I was just over it by then lol! But when I crossed the finish line I was ready to do it again!

Ah yes, classic. During my first Disney marathon, I told my husband I was a one and done for marathons. Two days later I was planning for the Goofy challenge. :D

Congrats on completing your first half! That's a tough course for your first one.

DD25 wants me to ask if anyone on here lives at high altitude (she is in Colorado Springs) and how you train to get ready to run at sea level? Do you do anything differently? I should add she is not a new runner and currently runs a 13:00 minute mile.

We live at altitude also (Denver) and DH and DS don't do anything different. They train for the speed they want to run and then just enjoy the added bonus of all the extra oxygen at sea level. They always end up with a faster pace in Disney races than anything here because it is so much easier to run down there (plus the Florida and California races are flat and as your DD knows, there is no way to run a flat course on the Colorado front range!).

Thank you! That does sound fun, good luck to you as well. I want to do one of those this year as well I think! I am doing the hot chocolate race so it should also be fun and have a good incentive at the end for me. :)

I woke up this morning freaking out about my 10K next Saturday! I have never run a race before, I have no idea what to expect. Can I finish? Will I make a fool out of myself? This race has very little info online, so I sent the race director an email. Porta Potties, water stops, after race food / drinks, etc. He has not answered me yet. I have no idea if I need to bring my own water even. Ugh! I am sure I am stressing for nothing and I will be fine, but at the moment I'm so nervous!

Don't worry! I'm the same way, I like to know everything so I can walk myself through the race beforehand. If you need to, take a walk break! I think any race longer than 5k will have water stops, so I would only worry about bringing it if you have a strict hydration schedule usually. There should be signs directing to the corrals and start line, but don't be afraid to ask. GL!

Kind of strange to not have that info online IMO. Or else the races I've done so far just have awesome organizations behind them that spell out everything ahead of time. They'll also send out an email with final instructions a day or two before the race with all the nitty gritty details like parking, directions, course maps, late packet picket up, etc. I hope they do the same for your race to ease your nerves a bit. :goodvibes

I know! I want to have it all figured out in my head before I get there. I guess if they don't answer my email I can have some water in the car and ask someone when I get there. Thanks!

I thought so too! All the races I have read about have told all those things. The only email I got was saying I was registered. Maybe they will still send something, it's still 5 days away. The website has a description of the race course, but no map and just past times of people, etc. Not really any useful info. I will try to stop stressing, lol!

I joined a gym today! I recently won 6 months of a gym membership. It's kind of a muscle head gym, so I felt pretty intimidated walking in there. But they have childcare, so that's the only way I'm going to get anything done during the day with my 8 month old. It's the first time I've run in ages. Honestly, it's been years. I'm training for a 10K in June so I can try to submit a qualifying time. I did walk/run intervals, and my run was at a 12:00 mile. Which is faster than I've ever run. But honestly I felt great! I wasn't struggling and dying. I felt so awesome when I left.

I also got a Garmin today!!! I bought a Forerunner 305 off Ebay for $36 including shipping! It said it needs a new battery, but the one in it is working still. I'll still buy one for $15, but I got a huge deal on it. I'm so excited!

Good for you! That is an awesome time for not running in ages! What run/walk intervals did you use? And what speeds on the treadmill? I have a hard time trying to set the right speeds for interval training.

To quote myself in 2012 before signing up for our first Princess 1/2. I told my wife "I can do a 1/2, but a full. That's just crazy. I don't think I ever want to do a full". 3 Disney 1/2's later, and I signed up for Dopey having never run anything longer than a 1/2. Now I'm marking my calendar for the 2015 Dallas Marathon, and Dopey 2018.

I feel ya on that one. I registered for the Big D Dallas 1/2 which is in 2 weeks. Haven't seen a single email since I registered. But their website has tons of info. I'll find out soon enough.

Surprised you guys have not jumped on this. Its not at the top of the page. If you click on the registration tab you'll see it.

It was posted back on page 75 when registration first opened, but thanks for following up.

A few years ago, DW gave me about 3 weeks notice that she wanted us to do the local Turkey Trot 5k that year. My goals were: finish, and run the whole time. In a misty rain, I did both, with DW finishing just a couple of minutes behind me. The joy of our embrace upon meeting in the chip return area was something I will always cherish. Thinking back, I was worried about many of those same things. And after that race, I thought about how there was no way I could run any further than 5k; something like a 1/2 marathon was totally out of the question. My RoadID has the phrase, "my race, my pace" on it. It reminds me that it is me, what my body is capable of doing that day, and the clock.

A long, long time ago, in a rifle range far, far away... I joined my high school rifle team. From there, I was lucky to find that my chosen college also had a rifle team. I've had the good fortune to make many friends and learn from many good mentors in my sport. From more than one person/coach, I heard this advice: visualize yourself succeeding. See yourself crossing the finish line (shooting 10's). Imagine how good that is going to feel. DW knows I've already been visualizing how it is going to feel this November, after we've finished, and the joy.

Are you doing the Hershey 10k? If so- I was on their site tonight, and the course map is lacking much detail. Look at the "spectator map". It has mile markers on it, as well as the locations of the water stops. Pre-race, I saw that the restrooms at the stadium will be open. You can also search "Hershey 10k review". I read a few last week, to see what others said about it in the past.

I walked at 3 mph and ran at 5 mph. I know it's slow for most people, but it's an accomplishment for me. I'm in the obese category of BMI, so I'm working on being a better me. Today really helped in the confidence area! My intervals were 1 minute of running, 1.5 minutes walking.

My husband placed 5th in his age group on his 10K on Saturday. 52:20 for the race! Should get him in at least C for the Race once we are allowed to put in Proof of Time. He wants A or B so I'm signing him up for the Punta Gorda 10K on Memorial Day so hopefully his speed work will help him by then.

That's really great advice! Thank you.

Your husband is smokin' it @Dis_Yoda! :worship:

Thanks for the info! I think you are doing awesome! I'm in a supposed "healthy" weight range and I am SLOW! Great job!

Thank you for the advice! I will definitely try it! No, I'm doing the Capital City Classic 10K in Little Rock. It's one of the few 10k's within an hour of me that I can use for a POT.
