Official Avengers Half Marathon Weekend 2015 Thread

You need to log-in to the pass holder page first to direct to Active... It was so stressful, but I was successful to register both my husband and I. :)
Which event(s) did you end up registering for? You were on the fence about doing more than the 10k a week after Wine & Dine right?

I'm in - I did encounter the age issue but after a few attempts, closed the window and re-opened, so Active must have fixed the bug before then. Lots of people on the rD Facebook pages had the same problem from both AP and DVC sites. I actually got to the registration page a few minutes before noon. Got myself registered for all three races, my mom into the 10k and my brother's family of four into the 5k after mom told me his link wasn't working. The only problem is that he got it working and didn't tell her...so now I have to call rD and un-register four spots in the 5k.

That was exhausting!

Whew! That was nerve-racking this morning! I had the same age issue as everyone else, and ended up re-opening the registration page until it had the right age-range listed, probably around 9:03 PT. Luckily my work is used to me being a little late for our 9AM staff meetings. :) I am in for the Infinity Gauntlet challenge, as is my buddy Scott! Last year's half was so stinking windy, it resulted in my worst time ever, so I'm looking forward to some redemption. Now I just have to decide if I want to run as Captain Marvel again, or if I want to make a new costume. I'm thinking either Hawkeye - the Kate Bishop version - or Ms. Marvel.

I signed up for the challenge... I just want to finish strong and so hard to resist. Praying that Mother Nature will not make it windy like last year. This will be my husband's second 10k (1st 10k to be the San Jose Rock n Roll in Sept). We ran the Avengers 5k last year and had a blast.

Just getting on the boards now... That was some stressful stuff this morning... Ha Ha. I also ran into the Birthdate problem. But after a few minutes of stress I was able to get my sister and I registered for the Captain America 10K! It would be nice to have one of these registrations go totally smooth... But as we always say the registration is more stressful then the actual race. :)

An unexpected twist with early half slots lasting well into the second day (still at 60%). Wonder if more of those qualifying for early registration are holding out for the challenge, or if some people may just have assumed they missed out based on the recent pace of sales. Or maybe funds are running low for the last race of the year... or people are looking to save for a more costly Paris race in 2016...

I'm interested to see how long they last between now and general registration, as well as what happens with the general registration in a couple weeks.

I got DH and I registered for the 5k, but missed the Challenge due to that stupid website. I'll be trying again when the general reg opens up.

I know for me if I hadn't been able to get the challenge yesterday I would have waited for general registration or looked for a TA to get it. I'm very curious to see how quickly the challenge seeks out for general registration. I'm guessing that the sell out order will be challenge, 10k, 5k, half. I'm wondering how fast the half will sell out now that it's not an inaugural year

I'd like to know people's opinions about which DL hotels are best for the races. I want to use DVC points at the Grand Californian but it doesn't look like it will be possible. I can use my points at the three other hotels for a standard hotel room. Curious what people think of the different options for getting to/from the races. I know they are all much closer than WDW, just curious if people have preferences among them. Or, is picking the cheapest, PPH a good choice?

Can't speak to the DL hotels as they're beyond what we want to spend and we aren't DVC, but if you can get a better "rate" for your DVC points in WDW and roll (I'm not sure how it all works), there are a lot of affordable options other than Disney around the park.

We stayed at a Ramada in 2013 that wasn't anything special, but it was cheaper than a WDW Value and we could walk to the parks in 10 minutes, or the starting line of the DL Half in 15. This year we'll be staying at a Best Western at the end of DCA for about an additional 5 minutes walking to the park and about the same time probably for getting to the race starts.

You may need to use the DVC, or it may still make more sense to use DVC, but just thought I'd throw that out there as the convenience and ability to save money was new to us after taking so many trips to WDW.

I have stayed at all three DL hotels during the various Disneyland races and the Disneyland Hotel is my favorite. The expo is at the hotel and the starting line/finish line is usually in the parking lot next to it. I love the light up headboards in the room and the monorail water slides and being close enough to stop in at Trader Sam's. I choose PPH when I'm trying to do the trip and cheap as possible and still want a Disney hotel, I choose GCH when I am going the theme parks with my kids and Disneyland Hotel for everything else.
That being said, if this is your first West Coast Disney experience, GCH is going to "feel" more like a deluxe WDW resort than the other DL hotels will, if that makes any sense!

My best friend and I signed up for the Challenge. She did run into the age issue, but also there was no box to click Coast to Coast. I got paranoid and called up run disney. You will not get anything via email or in the mailbox. You are automatically put in Coast to Coast which was the assumption across the board. However the cast member did tell me that when you pick up your bag at the expo to remember to look for the Coast to Coast wristband. He said that this was a new process and they don't expect issues but to be cautious.

Just a quick FYI that early registration for the HALF is now showing at 75% today. Not that it's flying of the shelf two days later, but just an update since it did move up finally.

I'm surprised it's still available. But I guess 15% jump from yesterday means it's starting to fill up more. It will be interesting to see what happens on general registration.

Got an email from Acclaim Travel that they have bibs available now. You do have to buy a ticket with them (but no hotel!). Check 'em out! Acclaim is how I got DS and DH into the marathon weekend 5K last year thank goodness. :)

Does anyone have any information about the active.com queue? I've read online that sometimes you get put into a waiting room/queue and it tells you how many minutes until it's your turn. Is there a way to avoid this queue (like getting in right at 9 AM PDT)? This is my 3rd runDisney race and I never saw a queue in my previous registrations. Granted the last one (DLHM), I decided on a whim to sign up for that race and it was at least an hour after it went on sale.

I've never seen the queue and after reading about the Wine & Dine queue horror stories I'm a bit paranoid to get stuck in queue as the Infinity Gauntlet challenge sells out. So if anyone has any tips to bypass the queue (refreshing, multiple browsers, multiple computers, etc), please let me know! This will probably be my last runDisney race for a while and I want to do all my research ahead of time so I can get in. Thanks in advance!

If you'll be buying at least a one day ticket anyway, might see my above post about buying from one of the authorized TAs who have bibs... http://patstonetravel.com/avengers-super-hero.php is the specific one I mentioned, but I'm sure there are others (listed on the rundisney page).

They are selling *now*, so you could calm all anxiety ahead of time.

I'm not affiliated, I'm not affected by anyone using them. :) Doesn't seem to be a *bargain* until you get to the 5K + one day ticket level, but it gets you in. (and they actually have a refund policy)

Thanks for the reply! I actually did look at that TA. But I don't need a park ticket. I already have a 2 day park hopper. I've been trying to decide if I should pay the extra money now to guarantee entry or take a risk on 4/7.
